FROM THE PRINCIPAL Term 2 Week 8– 10 June 2020

Well we did it! All students are back at school and learning is right on track with teach-

ers and students preparing for assessments. It is lovely to see and hear the students

again at school. We have transitioned assembly to Friday mornings where we can come

together to celebrate our students achievements in our undercover area and teachers

can conform to social distancing regulations. Unfortunately we are still unable to invite

parents into the school grounds, but will endeavour to keep you informed with infor-

mation and photos on our Facebook site.

Our classes continue to have separate eating and play areas which has been working

well, but we are looking forward to the time when the students can all play together

once again. A huge thankyou and our appreciation to our parents for keeping your child

home when unwell, even if it’s just a sniffle, students cannot be present at school, these

measures are in place not only to keep our students well but also our staff, some of

whom are vulnerable.

A reminder with the weather cooling down you are re-

minded that the school jumper is royal blue. Students

may wear a plain pullover or zip up jumper and royal blue

tracksuit pants only may be worn instead of shorts or a

skirt. All belongings should be named so abandoned

items can be reunited with their owners.

This Friday 12 June is the Wowan Show Holiday. This is a public holiday for Wowan.

There is no school on this day.

Please remember we are here for you and are only a phone call away.

to children who are independently working above their year level. If you have queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher/s. Academic reports for Semester One will be sent home with students on Friday 31 July. This will allow teaching of the assessable curriculum to occur right up until week 10 of Term 2 so that all students have had the opportunity for a full 5 weeks of face-to-face teaching. POWER OFF Wednesday 24 June from 9am to 3pm the power will be off at the school due to work being completed by Ergon Energy in the street. All students will need their own FILLED and NAMED water bottle as the water pump will not supply water to the bubblers without power. The amenities block is suppled by town water and will not be affected. Students will be participating in some outdoor lessons during the day to minimise the impact of the power outage.

eBOOKS FOR WOWAN STATE SCHOOL STUDENTS All students have been registered for eBooks. Use this link to access books to listen to, read and enjoy. eBooks Digital Library eBooks is a free Digital Library where students are able to borrow digital books and au-dio books. To access eBooks students are able to login using their MIS-ID. HOUSING REQUIRED

The school is looking for a secure, fenced house to rent long term in the

town of Wowan or within a 10 klm radius of the school. If you have a

house to rent please contact the school on: 4937 1133 to discuss. House

is required from the start of Term 3 (12 June, 2020)

LIBRARY BOOKS

We are currently in the process of doing an upgrade in the library which includes the

way books are shelved, the borrowing process and an update on the return of books to

the library. 2 library books can be borrowed at a time for one week and should be re-

turned to school each week on your borrowing day. If you would like a book for longer,

bring it back to school to be extended for another week. We are trying to alleviate the

amount of overdue library books and the amount of library books that are lost each

year. Parents will be sent accounts to replace lost library books if they cannot be found.

A library book your child does not return is a book that another child cannot borrow or a teach-

er cannot use for learning in the classroom. We thankyou for your assistance with this.

2020 ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (AIP)

Each year schools are asked to identify their priorities for the year that they are working on. These priorities are formed

using a variety of data including but not limited to A-E data, NAPLAN results and School Opinion Surveys.

This year Wowan State School has identified the following priorities in no particular order:

1. School wide writing process. Working towards all students reaching and exceeding the literacy continuum cluster level appropriate for their year and age.

2. Professional practice of teachers. Develop Australian Curriculum knowledge and consistency of pedagogical practic-es to enhance student learning through use of resources including: Age Appropriate Pedagogies, Literacy Continuum and Learning Walls

3. Community engagement. Develop a Parent and Community engagement framework in collaboration with communi-ty members and P&C

4. Numeracy. Maintain and monitor use of a range of pedagogies to implement mathematical teaching and learning. Maintain and monitor use of recording of differentiated planning to suit all students.

Each fortnight we will share our progress on the area we are focussing on for the fortnight and ask for parental and com-

munity feedback.

AIP 2020 - PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OF TEACHERS

While teachers have been dabbling in Learning Walls for a little while now, we are now coming together with a set of con-

sistent practices in all classrooms. A learning wall is a ‘living’ display in the classroom that supports student learning. Learn-

ing walls are a method to model and share children’s thinking processes. Students use learning walls as a prompt for their

thinking and learning and teachers and children regularly add to them and refer to them during learning time. Assessment

marking guides are displayed as part of the learning wall and explained to students. C, B and A grades and are identified

with 1 star, 2 star and 3 star practices and what is required to reach a C (1 star), B (2 star) and A (3 star) level are discussed

with the students. All students should be able to answer the following questions about their learning.

What are you learning about? How are you doing? How do you know? How can you improve? Where do you go to for help? Take a look at the evolving literacy learning walls in the P-2 and the 3-6 classrooms

SCHOOL CLEANERS’ DAY

This Monday 15 June we celebrate School Cleaners’ Day. A huge thank you to Mrs Nell Grange

for keeping our school clean, tidy and germ free! Nell plays an extremely vital role in keeping

our school safe. This year, in particular, it’s more important than ever to acknowledge and

thank our school cleaner for her efforts in making sure our school is protected from the spread

of Coronavirus. THANK YOU MRS GRANGE.
