FRom the PReSiDeNt'S DeSkDear Fellow Rotarian,

I am delighted to accept the responsibility of leading this prestigious and admired club. The strong foundation and the rich legacy of our thirty four years of existence can only be attributed to the dedication and commitment of the past Presidents. I have been fortunate to be a member for the past twenty years and it is now time for me to give back to Southend by serving as its President.

This is an important year in the history of Rotary. The Board of Directors and the President of Rotary International have been forward thinking and assertive with new guidelines to take this unique movement forward. They have suggested practical and new ways to ensure we effectively service the needs of the society in this new age, fast paced digital society. The suggested changes are exciting and we shall implement the same in our programs at Southend.

Ann Mini and I assure you that we will give in our best to ensure a meaningful and fun filled Rotary Experience. The office bearers have planned, interesting and exciting programs for the Rotary calendar 2016-17 well in advance to ensure your participation and will certainly revitalize our Rotary Spirit.

However, we require your support and encouragement by volunteering your time and making a commitment to participate. Your involvement in club programs is a simple and the only way to ensure that the Southend Flag keeps furling high.

Looking forward to a great year at Southend!!!

The foundation stone for the Presidency of Rtn. Atul Raheja was laid with the unique Brain Storming trip to Japan. It was for the first time that the Anne’s also joined this typically stag event, thereby taking the participation level to a heartening 60 plus. Besides the beautiful Sakura experience the highlight of the trip was the recorders taking opinions of members on various changes which the President wants to introduce in the functioning of the Club. A very well planned & executed trip organized by Chairman Rtn. Alok Daga & Co-Chairman Rtn. Subodh Gupta

Directors elect training SessionAnother event organised to prepare and train the Directors of the incoming Rotary year 2016-17 was DETS (Directors Elect Training Session) held at Hotel Hyatt Manesar in March. This one & a half day session was highly informative and inspiring. Chairman Rtn. Pawan Puri and Rtn. Dalbir Gulati contributed immensely to the success of this event.

kirtan on 1st July 20161st July marks the beginning of the New Rotary Year. To seek the blessings of the Almighty, President Atul Raheja & his team organized a soulful Kirtan , followed by a traditional Langar at the Vasant Vihar Gurudwara. Bhai Sunil Arora ji sang melodious ‘Shabads’ in praise of the Lord and prayed for a successful year ahead. It was a well-attended event where close to 150 members and spouses including 25 from Southend Next joined in. The pious evening ended in a floor setting, sumptuous Langar being served to all by our very own Rotarians with great love and dedication. Chairman Karan Madaan put in a lot of efforts for this evening.

installation CeremonyThe installation ceremony for President Atul Raheja and his team took place on 4th July at Hotel Shangri-La. The great philanthropist and businessman, Mr. N.R. Narayan Murthy was the Chief guest for the evening and by some divine intervention Swami Swaroopanand Ji of Chinmaya Mission blessed the occasion with his presence. Other important Rotary dignitaries including the DG, Dr. Subra and Dr. Lalita, Presidents and Secretaries of other Zonal clubs were also present. Unlike routine speeches from the Chief guests, Rotarian Rahul Mehra conducted a very interesting and crisp chat show with Mr. Murthy holding an audience of over 170 people spellbound.

The high tech 3D presentations needed special viewing glasses, which was another feather in the cap for PP Rtn. Sunny Ahuja, who as usual, exceeded all expectations. The immaculately dressed, tech savvy emcees Rtn. Rakesh Nayyar and Anne Meenakshi Mayor worked with highend digital screens, opening doors and shutters to a wonderful evening.

Annes. Mamta and Meera created a South Indian style ambience prevalent with Jasmine flowers and candles, accompanied by a live Ganesh Vandana by Rtn. Hemant Bhasin adding to the tranquility of the evening.

The end of the formal function was marked by a South End style celebration at the bar and the dance floor with our DG and South End singers. Behind the scenes were the tireless efforts of Chairperson PP Rtn. Rajan Mayor and co-chairperson PP Rtn. Deepak Devan who put together this amazing show.

President Atul Raheja introduced his team with pride and humility, emphasizing on his triple S theme for the year: SUCCESS. SERVICE. SPIRITUALITY.

For the finale, Rtn. Vipin and his team presented a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.

Club AssemblyThe first club assembly for the year 2016-17 was organized on 21st July at Hotel Sheraton, Saket. A special effort was made to garner a 90+ attendance as many new changes and innovative ideas to increase membership, encourage leadership and enhance attendance at community projects were put forth by President Atul Raheja. All suggestions were put through a democratic vote by not just the attendees but also the absent members who could express their views through a mobile app. The results for the same were compiled and shared in real time. All the directors made interesting presentations to share their vision and plans for the upcoming year. It was a lively session with enthusiastic participants and open communication between all members. We are grateful to chairman Rtn. Himanshu Kohli for his hardwork and dedication.
