This month many will cloth themselves in African attire and sing Negro spirituals, in an attempt to celebrate our African heritage. While all of this is good and should be done, we must not forget that our African heritage should be celebrated every day; not just during the month of February, which by the way is the shortest month of the year.

I have noticed over the years, as we commemorate our rich and wonderful heritage, that one element of our journey as a people is hardly ever mentioned and many times is left out completely. Brothers and Sisters, we have come this far because our fore-parents were

unified by their faith in God. They understood that if they were going to survive and eventually experience freedom they had to stand together and keep their faith in God. Those who have gone on before us understood what Paul was saying when he wrote:

• . . Stand fast in one Spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Phil. 1:27).

Now that’s scriptural unity! O how much more we could accomplish if we too would embrace the spirit of unity that the African slaves and the people that lived through “Jim Crow” possessed. This is my prayer for the local Church:

“Lord please allow the spirit of unity through faith to overtake us in such a way that ‘one can’t fall without the other,’ and may the power of the Holy Spirit fall fresh upon us all. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”

Remember, “The Church Unified Is The Church At Its Best!” May the peace of God be with you in your pursuit of unity, through faith in God.

The Better Business Bureau of North Alabama has received several calls today from North Alabama consumers regarding an automated phone call received at their place of residence. In each case, consum-ers report that the call came from an automated dialer with a mes-sage asking the consumer to call an 1-866 number and enter their 16 digit credit or debit card number to validate information about their bank account. Consumers also report that their caller ID displays a Listerhill Credit Union phone number.

The BBB called the toll free number and found a recording claiming that we had reached the Billing and Payment Center of Listerhill Credit Union. The BBB has confirmed with Listerhill Credit Union the number does not belong to any division of Listerhill Credit Union. The phone number has since been disconnected. The BBB has been un-able to reach anyone on the phone number provided in the message.

The BBB reminds consumers that financial institutions and other companies typically do not contact their custom-ers by phone or via an email to request an update or validation of their account. By sharing this information, you are providing access to your bank or credit union account. According to the www.FBI.gov, this type of telephone crime is often referred to as "vishing," a high-tech scam that deceives consumers into disclosing their personal in-formation. Vishing is considered a two-fold scam, which first it steals a company's identity and then uses it to vic-timize consumers by stealing their credit identities.

BBB Warns About Automated Calls for Billings and Payment—“SCAM”

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved (John 3:17). Go back to the purity of the first hour you knew Je-sus…when you felt as if everyone in the world should have a chance to feel what you felt and know what you knew. Everyone in the world should have the opportu-nity to feel washed clean by the blood of Jesus and know they are on their way to heaven. Keep that hunger and that purity that reaches out a hand and says, "I'll pray for you. I'll believe God for your miracle." We are the only hope to evangelize the world. We are the generation destined to reach out in this last hour to the depraved and the destitute with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. From the uttermost to the guttermost, take a stand and declare, "we have

God's Word, and it is the answer for everything we have need of!"

Jesus commissioned us saying, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). Valentine's Day, a time when thoughts turn to love. But what is love? Is it a box of chocolates, or a pretty valentine? Is it a red rose, or maybe a dozen? Is it a peck on the cheek, a fond embrace, or a big bear hug? Well, sometimes love is known in those ways. But love, real love, is how we relate to God and to one another if life is what it ought to be - beautiful!

The 2008 Black History Month Theme is "Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism.” The main effort of this year’s theme is to show that the multiculturalism of today had its origins in the struggles of African Americans to have their cultural contributions recognized by American society. In breaking through the monocultural vision of America, African Americans were at the foundation of multiculturalism in America. No one played a greater role in this effort than Carter G. Woodson. With the acceptance of black people and black culture, other cultures found a way of gaining acceptance. In celebration of Black History Month, here are a few suggestions as to how you can celebrate Black History Month this year.

1. Review how the United States military came to appreciate the contributions of African Americans, then increas-ingly accepted the contributions of Hispanics, Asians, and Native Americans. Here the emphasis should not sim-ply be on the Tuskegee Airman, Buffalo Soldiers and others, but on how the military came to accept their con-tributions over the years.

2. Review how Carter G. Woodson’s The Mis-Education of the Negro articulated a vision of education in which vari-ous groups are taught an appreciation of their history. Moreover, the work stressed how the educational system must take into consideration the cultural background of the various groups who make up a society. In keeping with the theme and to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the book's publication, black history celebrations might include appropriate readings from The Mis-Education of the Negro.
