    All information which appears here is attributed to The Louisburg Herald.

    This issue is about the October 12, 1944 issue of the Louisburg Herald. Obviously, most of the news items

    from that period are related to the war.

    October 12, 1944

    Ens. Frank Moody is home on a 28 day leave to be

    spent with Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Kelly and Mr. and

    Mrs. Chas G. Kelly. Ens. Moody will report to

    Daytona Beach, Fla. for three months advanced

    training on the Navys best, the F6F Hellcat plane.

    (note: Frank Moody lived with the Kellys while in

    High School)

    Cpl. Don Masterson visited his parents, Mr. and

    Mrs. Roy Masterson, while on a 12-hour pass.

    Don is a member of the 330th

    Bombardment

    Group, and is a crew member on the B-29 in the

    Pacific.

    Lieut. Archie G. (Gil) Jackson received Presidential

    Citation due to a mission in which Gil piloted a P-

    38 over Foggia, Italy in which he and his fellow

    pilots destroyed 151 enemy airplanes on the

    ground. Gil rotated stateside after flying 51

    missions in the P-38 fighter in France, Africa, Sicily

    and Italy. He will now be an aerial gunnery

    instructor at Ontario, Cal. Gil is the son of Mr.

    and Mrs. A. F. Jackson of the 3-f station south of

    Louisburg.

    Dale H. Carter, MM 1-C, is home on leave from

    the Navy. Dale has seen service in Africa, Italy,

    and the Mediterranean Sea. Dale is the son of

    Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Carter and one of Sally

    Carters three grandsons in the service.

    Ginn-Ferrel Nuptials

    The marriage of Miss Mildred Geneva Ginn to Cpl.

    James F. Ferrel is announced. Miss Ginn is the

    daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Ginn of Quantico,

    Va. Cpl. Ferrel is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. J.

    V. Ferrel.

    S-Sgt. George A. Windisch, son of Mr. and Mrs.

    George Windisch of Louisburg, has been awarded

    the Air Medal by Major General Partridge of the

    8th

    Army Air Force, for meritorious achievement

    while participating in heavy bombardment

    missions against the enemy over Continental

    Europe.

    Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Barkis are the parents of a

    baby girl, born at the Smith nursing home in

    Paola, KS. Lloyd is a brother of Marvin Barkis of

    Louisburg.

    A son weighing 7 1-4 pounds was born to Mr. and

    Mrs. Fred Dalrymple of the Somerset community.

    A photograph appears of Cpl. Paul Maynard

    casting his ballot from somewhere in France.

    Paul is serving as a lineman with the 6th

    Armored

    Division.

    I believe Delores Little became Delores Sillyman.

    In 1944, High School football was played in the

    afternoon and at Rogers Field.

    The Sun Theater is showing Wing and a Prayer

    and Uncertain Glory, plus a cartoon and news.

    (Note: I believe Mollie Wells was the owner.)

    (Note: I believe Howard Cooper owned this

    shop.)

    Mrs. Vernon White has returned from Meridan,

    Miss., after spending several weeks with her

    husband, S-Sgt. Vernon White.

    Miss Jane Smith left Saturday for Abilene, Texas

    after spending two weeks vacation with her

    mother, Mr. L.G. Wilson and Mr. Wilson. Miss

    Smith is a technician at the Regional Hospital,

    Camp Barkley. (Note: Jane Smith married Ted

    Matzkanin)

    Roseanna Larkin Thomas celebrated her fourth

    birthday anniversary with a number of little

    friends at her parents home in west Louisburg.

    Rosanna is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. S.

    Thomas.

    Forty-eight patrons and pupils of the Moore

    school, east of Louisburg, with the teacher, MissEtta Gillogly, enjoyed a wiener roast last Friday

    evening.

    Kenneth Windisch was at Trinity Lutheran

    Hospital Wednesday morning where Dr. Hicock

    removed three pieces of steel from his hand.

    Mrs. David Wilson and Mrs. Frank Wilson arrived

    at the home of the formers parents, Mr. and Mrs.

    C. G. Weaver, Wednesday night. The latter spent

    two weeks as a guest of her son and wife. (Note:

    Mrs. David Wilson was Bettie Weaver, the wife of

    the young man killed in the plane crash near

    Drexel in 1946.)

    T-5 Donald Nutt, brother of Mrs. Wilbur Wren,

    has arrived safely in France. Mrs. Wren spent the

    weekend with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

    Harry Sherar of near Paola.

    Mr. and Mrs. Homer Steger, with Gene andTommy were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.

    Jack Nelson at Drexel.

    Pvt. Herman Henry, on furlough from Brook Field,

    Tex., was a Wednesday caller in the Charles

    Kircher home.

    Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. C.

    Gillogly were Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Goss with

    Johanna; Miss Ruth Gillogly, Kansas City; Mr. and

    Mrs. Joe Gillogly of West Line; and Mr. and Mrs. J.

    F. Eggleston with Jerry Jay and Patricia.

    Mr. Roy Watrous of Phoenix, Ariz., Mr. Henry

    Watrous, Kansas City, and A.O.M. 3-C Chester

    Watrous of Hutchinson, were visitors Sunday in

    the J. H. Phillips home. Mrs. E. J. Lovett and Ed

    Phillips of Lawrence were weekend guests in the

    Phillips home.
