Four games to go and we have some blockbusters in WGFNC today. The first match sees Cora Lynn host Nar Nar Goon at the Cobra Dome. The Cobras finally tasted defeat last round when Koo Wee Rup bounced back to cause one almighty upset. They will again be tested as Nar Nar Goon desperately fight to jump inside the top five. Sitting in seventh, only percentage keeps them outside of the finals and they must continue to take scalps if they are going to climb in. Another match that will prove important for two finals contenders sees neighbours Bunyip and Garfield battle it out in Bunyip. It’s a big day for the Dogs as they will be celebrating their heritage by wearing their traditional jumpers. It adds to what is already a crucial match for both sides. Garfield were man handled by Phillip Island last week and must get a win if they are to remain a threat of finals. The Dogs are one of three teams on 32 points and if results fall their way might find themselves sitting fifth by the end of the weekend. Kilcunda Bass host a coastal showdown as they welcome Dalyston to Bass. Both teams are desperate for a win and with

very similar percentage, spectators should expect a tight contest. Koo Wee Rup face ladder leaders Phillip Island, still riding the high of upsetting rivals Cora Lynn last week and will be confident they can take it right to the premiership favourites. The Dogs haven’t been seriously challenged since Round 10 and with percentage sitting above 300, will be looking forward to a tough contest against their 2018 grand final opponents. Inverloch Kongwak heads in to the hills to play Korumburra Bena. The Giants only just got the job done against Warragul Industrials in round 14 and will need to bring their A game as the Sea Eagles fight to bounce back from their narrow loss to fellow finals hopeful Bunyip. The last match of the round sees Tooradin Dalmore make their first trip Western Park to face Warragul Industrials. With the Gulls sitting in third place, they will almost have the double chance locked up if they get a win, while the Dusties look to cause what would be the upset of the round on their home turf. With so many teams still in the hunt for finals, round 15 promises to be an entertaining one. Goodluck to all taking the field or court today.

If you compared the senior football and A Grade netball ladders at the end of round 14 to the end of round 13, you would observe only one positional change to either. However, the story in between tells a very different tale, with round 14 throwing up some significant results in the context of the Alex Scott and Staff premiership season.Much of the drama took place at Inverloch, where the visiting Bunyip sides stunned the home club on both playing arenas. It all kicked off on the netball court, where the Yips edged a see-sawing encounter 48-45.Once again it was the Jasmin Mackie show, with the star goaler single-handedly outscoring the home side by netting 46 of her side’s 48 goals in a win that helped the Yips leapfrog the Sea Eagles back into the top five.It was a similar story on the football field. The Bulldogs trailed at every change only to rattle off four goals to one in the final term to win 12.7 (79) to 10.8 (68).The in-form Cley Bertoncello registered a round-high seven goals in tough conditions for forwards, while ever-present leader Brad Walker, ruckman Chris Kelf and fit-again swingman Aaron Paxton were among the other standouts.Ben Ross also returned to the line-up with young gun Heath Morgan-Morris recalled from the thirds and veteran Robert Hughes suiting up for his first senior game of the season.Tall defender Callum Cusack and wingers Dylan Clark and Corey Casey battled hard for the Sea Eagles, who regained Michael Eales and handed a senior debut to 17-year-old Will Clarkson but missed senior regulars Lachlan Scott and Adam Cross who joined an ongoing list of outs. The result didn’t earn the sixth-placed Bulldogs any new rungs on the ladder but moved them within percentage of the Sea Eagles who lost fourth spot to Koo Wee Rup, which stunned the previously undefeated Cora Lynn. The Demons were jumped early, trailing by 17 points at quarter time, but responded superbly to control the next three quarters and record a potentially season-defining 14.8 (92) to 9.14 (68) victory.Jay Wells was at his showtime best with five goals, with bulldozing midfielder Joel Gibson, recalled winger Liam Hetherington and human battering ram Mitch Collins also prominent. The Demons also had to do it without senior mainstays David Collins, Rory Connelly, Caleb Milojevic and Xavier Quigley, with future stars Archie Whitta and Nick Prowd

well and truly holding their own.The Cobras regained co-captain Tim Payne, Brady White and Brayden Weller for the clash, while Michael Duiker made his first senior appearance since returning to the club, with Casey Demons-committed Jaxon Briggs the only forced change. However, with spearheads Nathan Gardiner, Nathan Langley, Troy Tharle and Travis Woodfield held to just three goals between them, the usually free-scoring visitors were held to their second-lowest total of the season. They will also be sweating on the fitness of White and Langley, who were unable to run out the game.It was a dream start to a nightmarish block of games for Koo Wee Rup in which it meets the top three teams in succession.Next up is Phillip Island and should the Demons topple the unbeaten ladder leader and reigning premier, their title credentials will become a hot topic.Koo Wee Rup’s A Grade side kept the pressure on the sides above them, with a hard-fought 38-32 defeat of the Cobras on the netball court.Melissa Filarski buried 24 shots and Mariah Bell 12 to keep the Demons within four points of fifth spot.Garfield came within a whisker of their first win of the campaign, eventually falling short 37-33 against Phillip Island. The Stars led by two goals at half-time and were still within two at the final change, but the Island had a touch too much class, led by goaler Janelle Smyth’s 20 goals. It was a dirty day for the Stars on the football field, with the home side totally outclassed by an unforgiving Bulldogs outfit.Billy Taylor, Marcus Wright and Brendan Kimber were among an abundance of winners across the ground in the 15.12 (102) to 1.3 (9) demolition which all but dashed Garfield’s finals hopes. The Stars are now two games and significant percentage behind the three sides standing between them and a place in the top five with four rounds to play.James McKellar, Tanner Stanton and Rhys Murphy toughed it out for the Stars, while Sam Batson kicked their only goal of the game in his return from injury. The other side in the top five race, Nar Nar Goon, saw off Dalyston 8.7 (55) to 2.8 (20.Troy McDermott claimed three goals, with Mat Slattery, Trent Noy and Troy Toussaint among those to impress.Luke Wakefield, Clay Tait and Dean Wylie were good for

ROUND 14 REPORT ROUND 14 REPORTthe Magpies.Tooradin Dalmore continued to tick the boxes with a 10.14 (74) to 5.5 (35) win against Kilcunda Bass.Julian Suarez starred with three goals with Brad Lenders and Jake Kelly also important.Jimmy Phillips, Brad Aldwell and Mitch Tivendale were best for the Panthers, who stuck to their task admirably throughout.Korumburra Bena registered its fourth win of the campaign with a tense 5.6 (36) to 3.11 (29) win against Warragul Industrials at Western Park.Martin Snooks, Ash Snooks and Jasper Macri led the way for the visitors, who led at every change, while Jamie Cann’s three goals were decisive.Tyson Bale, Michael Ablett and Wilson Mcgillivray were best for Dusties. On the netball courts, Dalyston was too strong for Nar Nar Goon, taking the points 50-37 on the back of strong shooting from Jarney Thomas. The result left the Goon fourth and kept the Magpies within two games of ladder leader Tooradin Dalmore, which defeated a spirited Kilcunda Bass side 47-21.A strong second half led third placed Korumburra Bena to victory against Warragul Industrials.Chloe Hogg put up a game-high 31 goals in the 51-39 win which left the Dusties three games adrift of finals with four games to play. All this brings us to round 15 and another fascinating set of games.

Koo Wee Rup hosts juggernaut Phillip Island in the second grand final rematch of the campaign and should the Demons be unable to clear the competition’s biggest hurdle, the likes of Bunyip, Nar Nar Goon and Inverloch will be looking to capitalise. The Bulldogs welcome traditional rival Garfield to the kennel and won’t have to look far for inspiration. The Yips will be a wearing specially-designed jumper featuring the names of premiership players from throughout the club’s storied 117-year history – from the senior triumph of 1912 through to the under-16 flag-winning side of 2017.Every week is basically an elimination final for the Stars and Bunyip will need to be wary as they too have little margin for error in this tightest of run-ins. Nar Nar Goon faces the toughest task of the three, squaring off against a Cora Lynn side smarting from its first defeat of the season and shouldering some injuries to key personnel – beware the wounded Cobras.Inverloch Kongwak will be expected to prevail against Korumburra Bena but complacency has been a factor for the Sea Eagles at times this season. There’s also plenty at stake at Bass, where the competition’s bottom two sides will be battling tooth and nail to avoid the wooden spoon.Kilcunda Bass and visitors Dalyston will know the clash looms as their best chance to claim a morale boosting win between now and season’s end.Tooradin Dalmore rounds out the weekend with a trip to Western Park to take on the Dusties.

Nathan Lieshout, Brad Walker, Brad Wolfe, Rickie Crockett, Michael Whyte, Jeb McLeod, Brent Heus and Rob Hughes show off the specially designed jumper Bunyip will wear against Garfield this Saturday.

FOOTBALLSeniorsWe travelled down to face Inverloch, a very good side and on their home deck. Our preparation was first rate and it showed in a really strong team performance all day. Although we trailed at every break we were confident and ended up with a huge win.Chris Kelf started in the ruck, Cley Bertoncello bagged 7, captain Brad Walker was brilliant and the composure of Michael Whyte and Jye Keath late in the game was critical

ReservesRd 14 we travelled to inverloch in a cold and wet day We lost the toss and found ourselves kicking against the wind in the first quarter but the boys played outstanding footy to keep them goal less and managed to kick 3 ourselves With our confidence up we were able to kick away in the second quarter which gave us a handy lead going in to half time The culture were back to there best footy with the right attitude we were able to sustain this lead and played a 4 quarter game coming away with a 7 goal win

18’sInverloch had improved sharply from the first round match and are a tough team to compete against at their home ground. Again, the Bunyip boys continued with their great attitude from the previous week and got the win by 7 goals. Jake Newnham had another great game. Dalton Mooney played his best game for the year and kicked 4 goals. Dylan Gallasch, Jake Stewart, Sage Tapner and Ben Coleman, were also instrumental in the win.

16’sVs Inverloch down by the sea the boys braved the elements and for the 3rd outing against IK and looked to this to be a strong performance. Unfortunately some late outs to the side and a fired up opposition meant we were on the back foot early. The lads

battled well through the game but couldnt peg the scoring back. Some fine efforts and continued improvement from Josh Collins,Benny Hower,Riley Simpson and Sammy Coleman was a positive to come out of the game.

NEtBALLToday is a big day for our club in many ways! Firstly, we are holding our first Past Players Day, and we would like to begin with extending a very warm WELCOME BACK to all our past players, coaches and officials who are joining us today.Secondly, we have 2 milestone games being played today!Congratulations to Caitlin Wright (or Dos as her team mates call her) on reaching 50 games for the Bunyip Netball Club! Congratulations Dos!Last, but by no way least........ The Bunyip Netball Club would like to congratulate our very own, Aimee Wright on playing her 250th game today!Aimee has been at the club since day dot and bleeds the red, white and blue. CORA LYNN CLUB NOTES

footballTHIS WEEKAnother challenging day ahead of us as we come to the fourth last round of the home and away games. We host Nar Nar Goon and we know that, as traditional rivals there is a long history between the two sides. It will be an intriguing day of football between two great clubs. LAST WEEKSENIORSWe had been up and about all season and we lived up to the old saying “as you record each win you are coming closer to a loss”. Kooweerup came out to play as if their season was on the line. Their senior coach Ben Collins had just announced that he wouldn’t be coaching in 2020 so there was a lot of emotion built into the match as well. Coach David Main felt this coming into the match and knew that this was a crucial game for both sides. The end result illustrated the way the game was played by both sides. We were uncharacteristically sloppy with our ball handling and disposal and the opposition made us pay time and time again with turn overs. Our kicking for goal in the tricky conditions was poor and this meant that our first quarter was wasted where we had the best of the conditions. Overall the opposition was “hot” and we weren’t. Chris Johnson was our stand out player all game. He has a big tank and never stops grinding away. Thank goodness for our back six who were superb and stopped many forward forays. Shaun Sparks again proved himself as one of the best “small” defenders in the League, Mitch Wallace did a great job on the legendary Darren Sheen, Brent Urwin was creative at half back, Ryan Spierings never stopped running on his wing and Jai Rout was classy again in the mid field. Nathan Gardiner was our only multiple goal kicker with two goals. We welcomed Michal Duiker for his first senior game this year. Let’s hope we re-group in another crucial game this week. RESERVESThis team showed the positive influence of

Michael Palmer as their coach again with a gritty performance against a strong opposition. The end result was not quite good enough but the team played with purpose and resolve, only to fall just short. Our established “veterans” in Travis Ramsdale, (mid filed) Kevin VandenBerghe (mid field), Kane Martin (Forward) and Alex Foster (Defence) stood out for the whole game in their respective positions each drawing on their strengths. Corey Brook showed his class at Centre Half Back with his contested marking and long kicks out of defence the highlights and Jason Loomes was an effective opportunistic forward. However it wasn’t quite good enough in the end. THIRDSOur thirds went on their merry way against the opposition and got the score on the board. The best players included Taiki Skipwith, Dan Vela and Connor Hinds who led by example in the mid field, breaking through the lines with plenty of run. Jai Stevens and Liam Taylor held up the defence and combined well to restrict the opposition’s chances and Jay Verhagen made his presence felt in the forward line. Coach Shaun Sparks would be happy that he had winners on every line. FOURTHSThanks to Kooweerup for lending us some players. Our best players were Liam Wright, Luke Dunne, Chol Chol, Matthew Lothias Thompson, Cooper Newnham and Weang Reik. Coach Steve Mortimer is working through his “Dry July”. He will be pleased when it is over. SPECIAL EVENTSThanks to everyone who supported our Goods and Services Auction night. Special thanks to Kay Feltham for organising the Raffle prizes and tickets. Thanks to Terry Dillon for sourcing all the “Goods and Services” and the catalogue. Thanks to John Cunningham for being the auctioneer and bus driver for the evening. Overall it was a successful event. The Old Haileybury Womens AFL team added a special energy to the evening!DON’T FORGET WE HAVE TWO WEEKS TO GO FOR THE FIRST GOLD COBRA DRAW.

CORA LYNN CLUB NOTES

netballUnder 13s Under 13’s had their first loss for the season. Our defensive pressure was not at its usual strength and our hunger for the ball just wasn’t there. It was a lacklustre performance as a team which resulted in many wasted possessions. On a positive note there were several players that stood up throughout the game and kept battling to lift the team. BOC went to Sienna for a very smart game in the Centre, keeping possession and finding good options.

Under 15'sUnder 15’s had a loss on the weekend, the weather was a contributor amongst other things, however the girls played well and worked as a team throughout the game. This feeling will fade as we come closer to finals and must work hard to remain on top. Good transitions of play down the court as we continue to grow as a team.

Under 17s

Despite the weather, the girls had a plan to achieve this week! It was focusing on coming forward and backing one another up down the whole court. Due to the weather being extremely wet, it made it even more important for the girls to focus on coming forward and backing up as there were plenty of dropped balls throughout the game. We had plenty of rotation and all the girls work well with one another every quarter. We go into next week stronger and more determined to finish the season off strong. Best on court went to Brianna in her first game back in a few weeks, for great intercepts and drives out of defence !

C Grade C grade played another strong team game. Due to the wet conditions we had a basic game plan and the girls implemented this over a consistent 4 quarters of netball. Special mention to the circle defenders, Kat and Morgan for their tight defense and getting lots of turnovers. In a close finish Cora Lynn won by 2 goals, 16 - 14

B Grade

B Grade played started well scoring 9 goals into the wind and caught Koo Wee Rup by half time with Webbo firing in defence and Lou and Alicia doing well in goals. Second half we dominated possession but couldn't convert to goals till halfway in the last when we pulled 3 goals clear but again Koo Wee Rup didn't give up and scored the last 4 goals and we lost by 1 goal. Best players Lou Walsh Alicia Scott.

A Grade

A Grade again competed strongly in 3 quarters just lapsed in the 3rd scoring only 3 goals. The last quarter was our strongest finishing of with lots of run and showed we can mix it with most team's in the competition. Our leaders Bianca and Karla did a lot of work at both ends of the court our BOC over 4 quarter's was Emily Brook. Highlights Bianca sniffing the post Tess playing her 1st A Grade game and Tyra Schade doing well in the final quarter.

Senior Presentation Night – Saturday 14th September at the Pakenham Racing Club. Tickets available via TryBooking, $60 includes a 2 course meal, entertainment and main presentations – See Facebook for more details or contact Emily Brook at [email protected]

DALYSTON CLUB NOTES

footballWhat a difference a week makes as we went from delectable weather in Round 13 to be confronted by the icy bite of winter on our visit to Nar Nar Goon.Although the frigid conditions weren’t ideal, our kind hosts did warmly receive us and good spirit was shown by all teams.

Fourths: Kicking the dew off the grass our young Magpies stepped up to the plate against the second top team in their age group. For the first three quarters they were held scoreless however they didn’t allow their opponents access to easy scoring opportunities, making them work hard for their goals. And saving their best for last, finished the game outscoring the Goon in the final quarter 2 goals to one. Very encouraging signs for the future for all to see. Best: Fraser West, Troy Alford, Fynn Hodgetts, Liam Suttie, Michael Gatherum and James Ferguson.

Thirds:The U18s had more than a handful of the fourths boys in tow as they lined up for their game. Nar Nar Goon played well to the conditions and quickly built a winning gap. With several first half injuries and the wear and tear of six quarters for some, Greg Davis gave them the option to forfeit at the long break. But to their credit the young Magpies once again showed tremendous courage and commitment to soldier on and complete the game with just 13 on the field. A week’s break with a bye today will hopefully help them to restore their energy to have a crack in the final 3 rounds. Best: Hayden Renehan, Jesse Orchard-Moore, Jy Hull, Emmet Dempsey, Ben McRae and Fraser West in his second game for the day.

Reserves:Another slow start by our reserves put them on the back foot in their game with the Goon grabbing a 5 goal lead by quarter time. From then on the Magpies lifted and the further the game went the better they performed. Special mention to big Jesse who bagged a couple goals stepping up again. The final term in the trying conditions was perhaps their best as they continued to make life difficult for their opponents despite the scoreboard margin. Best: Luke Borne, Matt Whittaker, Santo Joma, Michael Roche, Brian Cody, Connor Sandy and Ben McRae

Seniors:The revolving door at selection table swung three changes this week as Clay, Luke and Wizz came in and John Jones became the fourth pre-match. However, the team that represented Dalyston played with real pride in the jumper as they approached the game with tenacity from the outset. The slippery surface tested both teams and kept the contest close and alive.Half way through the third quarter we inched in front on the scoreboard and with Luke and Corey Wakefield along with Dean revelling in the wet the game was up for grabs. Nar Nar Goon wrestled away the initiative from that point and banked the four points by kicking the last six goals of the game. Subtle signs of us turning the corner were there for all to see and perhaps this week their efforts will be rewarded. Best: Luke Wakefield, Clay Tait, Dean Wylie, Blake Carew, Corey Wakefield, and Luke Gheller.Today we take on the Panthers at Bass and we should expect they’ll be ready for us.

Social: Tonight after the games we will dropping in to The Killy Pub. Be there to support one of our very respected sponsors.

DALYSTON CLUB NOTES

netballNar Nar Goon are more than competitive in netball and the Daly went into the day looking for a good hit out at all levels. Although this turned out to be the case, the Daly managed win in all grades and continue to build towards the finals.

A Grade: It was second versus fourth and after getting their colours lowered last week the girls were keen to get back on the winners list. The Daly got off to a solid start and finished strongly to win well in a consistent performance. Best: Jarney Thomas

B Grade: It was second versus third at this level with both sides keen to do well. After a very good start by the Daly, Nar Nar Goon came back in the second quarter and it was pretty tight at half time. From there the game remained fairly even with the girls doing enough to increase their lead and record a solid win. Best: Jess McRae

C Grade: After an even first quarter the Daly girls gradually got on top and stretched their lead each quarter to have a good win. Best: Emily Turton

Under17’s: The girls started slowly but then kicked into gear finishing strongly to win comfortably. Best: Team Effort

Under15’s: After a quiet start the girls kicked away and had a good win. Best: Ava Satchell

Under 13’s: Although the Daly girls sit a fair bit higher on the ladder than Nar Nar Goon this was probably the game of the day and a really close contest throughout. Never more than 2 goals separated the teams at each break with the Daly leading and in the end it was only a 2 goal margin. Best: Mia Brosnan

Youth Girls Football: The Daly took on Warragul Industrials in ordinary wet conditions at the Daly and scored a very impressive win. Given the conditions the girls scored freely while restricting the Dusties and continued their recent good form. The improvement right across the board is terrific and the girls are really coming along. Best: Team effort.

Tomorrow the girls take on the very strong Phillip Island team at the Island in the final game of the home and away season in what will be a huge challenge.

Garfield CLUB NOTES

footballLast week was a day to forget on the football field, where both senior and junior teams were out worked and out classed in the wet.

In the seniors PI’s experience across all lines shone through, with their ability to cleanly secure the ball and move it with hands almost seemed like they were playing with a different ball, as our guys failed to make any meaningful foray’s forward for the majority of the match- with Sam Batson kicking the lone major in the 3rd quarter. James McKellar was again a standout, however other contributors were few and far between on the day.

The reserves was much the same, with a raft of injuries and other availabilities limiting the side we could field on the day, the boys toiled hard but to no avail, with PI again walking away comfortable victors- disappointing considering we were able to snag the four points in the previous fixture this year. Jay Intveen was the sole goal kicker, and Ant Haddrick, Joel Batson and Michael Johnson the standout players on the day.

In a positive for the under 18’s we were able to field a team again this week, a fantastic effort by all involved considering

the conditions. The boys toiled hard all day, battling hard against the top team and making them earn every possession, however, in the end the class of the PI side coupled with our player constraints proved too much, with the boys going down comfortably in horrific conditions. Thanks to PI for providing players to enable a game to be played.

The 16s was the tightest match of the day; with the Stars coming up just short in the end. Brandon Allen, William Freriks, Darby Craven, Zach Loomes, Jett Pickering and Josh Evans were the best of an overall even performance across the board, where the boys bravely fought back from a slow start to get done by 14 points in the end.

While it wasn’t the best day for football, the biggest event in our social calendar- the $10,000 Draw – was a resounding success, with each ticket sold. Congratulations to Zac Murphy and Josie Johnston who split the major prize, and thankyou to everyone who bought tickets, sold tickets and helped in anyway on the night.

With finals still a mathematical chance for both senior teams, lets turn things around and make the last month of football a winner.

Go stars!

INVERLOCH KONGWAK CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLWe welcome local rivals Dalyston today, in a clash that I’m sure both clubs have been looking forward to.In horrendous conditions last week we travelled to Tooradin and were greeted by a ground covered by a sheet of water and some serious wind gusts at times. Our reserves embraced the conditions early and competed hard in the first quarter. Tooradin’s class shone through as the game went on and were able to impact the scoreboard through some elite kicking for kicking. As our boys tired, the margin continued to grow. To our boys’ credit they stuck it out in tough conditions despite having 4 injuries in early in the last. We look forward to a big day against Daly. The senior side went in with a few key personnel out, but knew the conditions provided a golden opportunity to challenge a top 3 side. From the get-go the boys looked switched on and were up from the fight. A dominant start from Jimmy Phillips kept the ball moving forward and a couple of snags from Jake Smith kept us in the game. Half time saw us down 6 goals to 3, but still well and truly in the hunt. The third quarter saw us reduce the margin, although both teams were unable to kick a major for the quarter. We dropped off our intensity in the last as Tooradin’s clean skills were showcased in a dominant quarter by them. A disappointing finish but 3 positive quarters and plenty to work with as we go into one of our biggest games of the seasons this week.

netballA Grade – Terrible conditions were welcomed with an upbeat A grade side! With 2 of our shooters out for the day, Steph J stepped up from B grade and teamed well with Jules with the two of them making some great plays and leads between them. The girls went into half time only 3 points down from Tooradin and they knew they had a battle on their hands. Tooradin’s change up on their shooting end let them extend the lead in the 3rd quarter, and unfortunately our girls couldn’t peg the lead back. Best on went to Jamliah for her awesome

efforts in both defence and goals. Still some great signs from our girls and we are eager to see what the rest of the season brings for them. B Grade – Well a bit of a turnaround from last round, it was a soggy day for netball. Every player battled the conditions yesterday as we came up against the top contenders. Bass B grade had a great day despite the weather, every player put in 100%. Tooradin are an elite side and were tough to match, but the girls held the heads high and enjoyed every minute of their game. We mixed things up a little in the last quarter throwing defenders in goals and goalers in defence, just for fun. They did surprisingly well. A Friendly team spirited game to watch, both sides were chatting to each other and laughing off the blistering conditions. Great to see the fun and enjoyment on court today. I could mention everyone this week the girls all had a good game, but Georgia Burston took our BOC today she was a jet, up and down the court front cutting in the wet like it was dry. Great game.C Grade - C grade took to the court with determination against top spot Tooradin. The girls have been working hard and their passages of play demonstrated this with scores level at the first change. Although Tooradin got a jump on them in the second, the team never gave up fighting back to be within a goal in the last quarter, a heart stopping end, with amazing support from the sidelines, that didn’t quite go our ways. A fantastic display of teamwork, positivity and determination. Best on - TiffUnder 17s – The U17'S were positive, happy and ready to go for their match up against Tooradin, on a wet and wintery day. The girls hit the ground running and were only trailing by 4 goals at the end of the first quarter. Tooradin ran away with a few goals in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 13. With that said, a few strategic changes in the 3rd and 4th quarter, saw our Killy Bass girls win the 3rd quarter and draw in the 4th quarter. Overall, I was stoked with how our girls maintained their composure and gave their all for four consecutive quarters. We look forward to our game against Dalyston. Best on court - Emily McGillivrayUnder 15s & Under 13s – Shocking weather for the poor girls but the rain, hail and wind didn’t dampen their spirits! The whole club couldn’t be prouder of these girls for their efforts and improvement week in week out. They’re a great bunch to watch and their smiles remind us all to enjoy the game!

KORUMBURRA-BENA CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLSeniors

Travelled to Warragul to play Dusties on a freezing cold, wet and windy day. It was an important game for us and we were desperate to have a win.We started the first kicking with the cross wind. As expected in the conditions it was a bit of a slog. The boys attack on the ball was fantastic, the backline were playing really well and we managed to go into quarter time a couple up.The second against the wind was going to be hard work, and the team worked pretty hard. To the boys credit, even though it wasn't our best quarter we managed the keep the Dusties goalless while snagging one ourself. The third was a replica of the first, except Dusties got onto the scoreboard. We continued to battle well and went into the final term three goals up. A great lead in the conditions. To Dusties credit they came out in the last, cutting our lead slowly back before we steadied to run out winners.Jamie was probably the difference with some smart work around the goal. Ash and Marty were strong around the ball, Jasper revelled in the conditions and Bailey and Josh were consistent across the 4 quarters.

Reserves

On a cold wet windy winters day we traveled up over the hills to Warragul to play the Dusties. The conditions demanded total commitment from both teams. And both teams gave everything in hard fought tough battle We were able to put a couple of goals on to go to the main break 23 points up. In the last the Dusties mounted a come back but ultimately fell short. All players, volunteers and officials who turned out deserve a mention but our best were: P. Kyle, J. Harris, J. Dunn, B. Harris, H. Anthony, B. Walker. GO GIANTS!

Thirds

Wet weather footy was the play of the day with blizzard like conditions and water all over the ground at the dusties home ground. The Giants boys teamed together playing basic footy to get the job done. All Giants gave 100% in the very difficult conditions. Under 16s had no game so a few of the boys stepped up to help out and bolster the numbers which was much appreciated. The boys have momentum now with some solid performances over the past two weeks going into this weeks tough game against Inverloch and will have to keep working hard. Better players on the day Matt Allen, Jordie Grabham, Kodie Walker , Luke Walker , Jared Stewart , Will Little

13 & UnderWow, what a cold winters day! Six degrees is NOT perfect for catching or throwing! Well done to everyone for making it to the game. FOOTBALLIt was a true winter’s day last Saturday at NNG and only the bravest of supporters came along but we thank them for making the effort as always. It was a good day for the club with another four wins for the second week in a row. The Under 16s now sit on top of the ladder and are play-ing great footy and the 18s are sitting 6th just 2 points out of the top 5. The reserves are now 5th and starting to play more consistent footy and want to finish well to cement their finals spot. The seniors had a win but still sit 7th but are only percentage off 5th spot. This week is a massive test for all grades as we take on Cora Lynn at their home ground. With only four games left we must win most of them to get into finals and this week is a huge game.A big thankyou to all of our volunteers who put in huge amounts of time and effort to assist with the running of our club. Without them we could not survive so we are very grateful. Our $5000 draw is coming up on Sunday the 4th of August, 2019, this is a great fundraiser for the club and we need to sell all tickets. If everyone is able to sell a ticket or two then we will achieve the results needed and someone will go home with $5000. For tickets see Mick Keane.

NETBALLThis week we head to CoraLyn and look forward to some great games. Last week we hosted Dalyston and were unable to come away with a win in all grades, however our ever improving Under 13’s had a great game only losing by 1 goal.

PHILLIP ISLAND CLUB NOTES

FOOTBALLThis week we’re on the road again to tackle the highly rated Koo Wee Rup. The Dees knocked off second place Cora Lynn last week so we will be in for a tough gig. It was a dark day for the seniors last time we played there, because it was the last game that we lost so we need to break that hoodoo.Seniors – Well no one expected that result, the Island played really well in the conditions. Annie’s boy slipped into the forward line and bagged 3 and Youley didn’t move from the goal square all day to get his 3 cheapies. Bilbo was technically best on this week and as a reward he received a 50 buck voucher to the Killy pub. Now the next life test for him will be what he does with it, there is 2 paths he can take, does he use that voucher and take his family of 20 out for a nice meal or does he keep it for himself and slowly chip away at it over the next few months. Cuz tore himself away from the dunny this week to pop in and play a game that was considered by many to be pretty good. Kimber was best on by a country mile but he was demoted a couple of ranks because of his lack of respect for other humans safety. Poor little Redders missed most of the game with a shoulder injury but wasn’t sure who caused it, but when grey lead come to the bench with similar ailments, through his tears he said Kimber did it, so we put 2 and 2 together and knew who the culprit was. It got worse, after the game he bashed 2 blokes in the showers because there was no hot water, school teachers hate the thought of going back to work after holidays.Phillip Island 15.12.102 def Garfield 1.3.9Goal Kickers: A. Orlando Magic was aging the big gun up forward with 2 goals. NEtBALLU13’sOn a very cold, wet and windy day in Garfield our U13 girls played well in tough conditions to take out a convincing win. The first quarter was fairly even as both teams struggled with the slippery ball. 2nd Quarter Island found some spunk with Paige, Sienna and Charlotte working hard in defence. Mid way through the game saw Island steam through with strong leads and outstanding shooting by Lily and Meika. Maya, Isla, Lara and Mia all played well in the mid court and worked hard in such icy conditions. Ruby and Meika played well together in goals and a great win showcasing some wonderful talent from our U13 girls this week. Let's cross our fingers for a strong victory all the way home to finals Scores: Island won 31 to Garfield 11Awards: Paige Riley & Charlotte O’BrienU15’sThe conditions at Garfield were bitterly cold when Phillip Island took the court. Both Teams had to battle wind and rain as well as their opponents but Phillip Island managed to settle to get a good run on early. With such slippery conditions, the girls still displayed some good passages of play and finished at half time 18 to 2. With lots of rotation of players the Team continued to push hard through very trying conditions, keeping Garfield to very limited scoring opportunities. With lots of pressure throughout the court, the Island Team secured many turnovers and moved the ball well through the court, our shooters finishing well. Scores: Island won 30 to Garfield 6Awards: Bella Schmidt & Jarah WhiteU17’sWe travelled to Garfield under windy arctic conditions which would prepare anyone for an Antarctica expedition. Only the diehard supporters made the trip although it was reported to be worse on the Island. The only relief was the chips and gravy to try and keep warm. J mixed up the positions trying to keep all the girls involved. Difficult for the shooters as the wind moved the ball around but they still had the score board clicking over. Team Manager Mumma Felso passed around the hand warmers trying to comfort the team. Scores: Island won 48 to Garfield 13Awards: Mikayla Pedley & Cailin Robinson C GradeIt was Ruby’s turn this week to lay in the sun somewhere,

while her team mates took on Garfield in absolutely artic conditions. Really great effort by all players and umpires to be out in the weather giving their all. Very tight first half, goal for goal, one point Stars way at half time. Hayley (GK) and under 17 player Tayla (GD) worked so hard all game against a very strong Garfield attack and any missed shots or loose balls these two pounced on it. With nicely tanned Tori Lee (WD), Alice (C), Bella and Charli (WA) had the mid court playing solid if a bit slow for their likings on the wet and slippery court, but this didn’t stopped them from feeding shooters Emily (GS) and Katelyn (GA) to keep the score board ticking over. A small fade in concentration in the third quarter saw the Stars make a small break, enough to hang on for a win in a very even game. All players and umps should be proud of their efforts, numb fingers and legs the order of the day at the final siren.Scores: Island lost 24 to Garfield 29Awards: B GradeWet wintery conditions greeted us at Garfield this week, with slippery courts, high winds which made it very hard for the girls with passing and shots at goals. However there was some great passages of play by all which saw the team notch up another win! Scores: Island won 43 to Garfield 32Awards: Abbey McCaughan & Kasey BeattieA GradePossibly the coldest and wettest day of the season, the girls were up against a well improved Garfield team. The Island girls are used to playing fast paced systems and firing long balls out of defence, however the rain and wind required them to change their game plan to a more controlled, slow and shorter style of netball. With three players out (Nell- injured, Steph- unwell and Amber- holiday) the girls called upon young gun Cailin Robinson to enter the starting 7. As the girls adjusted to a different style of game, Garfield managed to turn over a few balls, but the first quarter was very much goal for goal. Settling into the second quarter Bridget and Janelle fired in the goal ring, as did the midcourt of Jess, Claise and Cailin, and defence of Cass and Anthea. Whilst our girls seemed to do nothing wrong, it definitely wasn’t a pretty game. Garfield managed to lead at half time, but a determined Island team were not giving up the 4 points. A couple of changes during the third quarter seen young Emma and Ashlee take the court to mix it up a bit. As the game progressed and the temperature seemed to drop, the girls capitalised on Garfield’s mistakes taking a 4 goal win. Scores: Island won 37 to Garfield 33Awards: Jess Gysberts & Cailin Robinson

FOOTBALLSeniorsTooradin’s game against Kilcunda-Bass was going to be a hard slog after heavy rain saturated the ground. Having said that , the first quarter was of a high standard, with Tooradin’s Julian Suarez a focal point at forward as he piloted the Seagulls to a 15 point lead. As the weather deteriorated, so did the game with packs developing everywhere in a real slog. During the second quarter Kilcunda was taking the game right up to Tooradin, but the home side led by 16 points at half time. The heavy ground evened up the contest during the third quarter, with both teams failing to kick a goal – Seagulls by 14 points at three- quarter time. Tooradin finally got their game together during the last quarter, finishing strongly to run out winners by 39 points.Best on ground Gendore Tractor and Machinery award goes to Julian Suarez Second best on ground Freeway Motor Group award goes to Brad Lenders Third best on ground Cheviot Homes award goes to debutante Jimmy Tresize ReservesTooradin’s 2’s played host to lowly Kilcunda-Bass on Saturday, but were anything but a good host in cold & wintery conditions. Considering that, the sides played good wet weather football early on. Tooradin had the better of the quarter though, with Tim Lenders, Jordan Gillespie & Jake Genoni all contributing. Tooradin blew the game open in the second quarter, creating the loose man away from the packs. With a rampant forward line led by Benjamin Parrot, who was a real live wire up forward, Tooradin took a nine –goal lead at half time. The Seagulls were completely in control during the third quarter, winning all the clearances as they took a 12-goal lead at three quarter time. The final quarter saw the difference between the top side and the bottom side, as Tooradin powered away to a 98 –point win. Best on ground Steritech award goes to Jake GenoniSecond best on ground Campbells Construction award goes to Cameron Brown Third best on ground Car Megamart award goes to Jordan Gillespie.

NEtBALLLast week we welcomed Kilcunda Bass to the seagull nest for a very wet and cold day of netball.Despite the conditions, our teams all played some great games to come away with six wins across the board on Saturday – a great achievement for the club! Our junior Gulls braved some hideous weather in the morning but still managed to put together four strong quarters of netball to secure some dominant wins. Our A and B-Grade teams also finished with convincing wins, while our C-Grade girls were challenged but managed to hold strong and come away with a three-goal win in the end. With quite a few players out across the board last week, it was great to see many of our 17 & Under girls stepping up to fill some gaps in our senior sides. The club loves giving our juniors these opportunities and all of them embraced the challenge and slotted in beautifully into the teams, showing some great depth across our club.Well done to last week’s award winners:13 & Under: Tooradin Pharmacy BOC Award to Haley Morrison and DLS Kitchens Coaches Award to Emmalie Evans15 & Under: O’Briens Real Estate BOC Award to Tiana Jones and Tides Bar and Grill Coaches Award to Izzy Potter17 & Under: Andrew Craven Concreting BOC Award to Tegan Rees and All About Windows Coaches Award to Makayla DaRoseC Grade: C&M Steel Fabrication BOC Award to Layla Williams, Tooradin Sports Club Coaches Award to Ella Murray and Players MVP to Sharna O’DwyerB Grade: Sherwell Gates BOC Award to Stacey Deayton, New Start Earthworks Coaches Award to Jemma Barton and Players MVP to Emma HaynesA Grade: Gendore BOC Award to Alex Duff, Frenken Homes Coaches Award to Bec Kinna and Players MVP to Bec KinnaThis week we head to Warragul, who last time around provided some good challenges for our teams so we look forward to what we’re sure will be a good, competitive day of netball. As we approach the tail end of the season, our teams are all looking to finish strongly heading into finals. Our A and B-Grade teams so far remain undefeated for the season, while our C-Grade side is also sitting on the top of the ladder. Finals are also a prospect for our 13 and 17 & Under sides, so we look forward to seeing how they finish off and hope they can secure a spot come finals time.Next week, on Saturday 27 July, we’ll be celebrating our Sponsors Day, past-players day and annual Junior Round, so make sure you join us for a what is always a big day for the club.GO SEAGULLS!!!
