meals from the market 2014 9

Dear friends,Welcome to the ninth annual “Meals from the Market” - Durham Central Park Inc.’s most impor-tant fundraiser! Who are we? We are a non-profit organization named Durham Central Park, Inc. made up of a volunteer board of 30 community members and two part time staff members. DCP, Inc. has a management agreement with the city to develop and manage the park with private - no public - funds. 2014 is the year to build Mt. Merrill! Our vision of a “Wanderland,” a children’s area east of Fos-ter Street, is becoming a reality. After two years of planning and fundraising, the construction of this small mountain - where kids can climb, jump and explore - is now in progress! How else do we spend our funds? We have the usual Pavilion and gardens maintenance, utilities and operational expenses, but here is a sample of where our dollars went this past year: • purchased materials for twenty volunteer work days that resulted in the new rain water gar-

den trail in addition to enumerable park enhancements• purchased new stairway railings up to Hunt Street• continued our stream restoration project near Corporation Street• installed new DCP signage • hired a second staff member to manage our social media outreach and book talent for our

public events• produced four food truck rodeos, the Warehouse Blues music series, the Fourth of July chil-

dren’s paradeFor the Meals from the Market 2014, seventeen generous hosts invite you into their homes and businesses to enjoy farm-fresh food and raise money for DCP. Join the fun and support the Park by purchasing tickets for one – or several! – of our meals held between September 13th and Novem-ber 7th. Take a look -- there are meals for everyone!Reservations can be made online at www.durhamcentralpark.org. A reservation form can also be found at the back of this brochure for those wishing to mail in their selections. Many meals sell out quickly, so make your selections early! Thanks, again, for supporting the non-profit that is developing and maintaining Durham Central Park!Yours truly,

Sat. 9/13 • Out by the POOlSummer may be waning but the hosts for this event aren’t whining. Celebrate the turn toward autumn with a final dip in the pool and an umbrella drink. There might be impromptu synchronized swimming,

water polo, water aerobics or any other ways to play in the cement pond. Feel free to bring your own floatation device. If you just like to sit by the pool we’ll keep your drink

refreshed as you kick back on a lounge chair.

However I do like meat and until I met Sioux, I ate meat at every meal. There will be meat for starters, probably a couple of pates and meat for entree - a grilled butterflied leg of lamb with fall roast vegetables

and Yorkshire pudding. Dessert will be served but nothing with meat in it such as ice cream with bacon bits. You can take a theme too far! I will be serving some Austrian and other wines with the meal.”
