Prairie View Band Room Banter Encourage your musician to practice every day. Growth happens every time they sit down to play. Ask them to share

with you their goals for the day, week and month. Listen to them play often and offer whatever encouragement you can! It means the world to them to have a parent recognize their hard work!

Great job everyone with Solo/Ensemble Festival and Jazz Fest. There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears that went into both days! What awesome volunteers we had from every building! Thanks to all!

We have several performances scheduled and other events in the next month or so. Here is the "short" list!

Swing into Spring Saturday, March 14th 7:00 pm at Prairie View

This is the final concert of the jazz season. Please come and celebrate with us the accomplishments of these hard working “jazzers”! The concert will be at Prairie View. Come “Swing into Spring” with us! We are looking for a few

great helpers to man a donation bucket and sell concessions for the event to raise money for Jazz 1. Please contact Mrs. Sederquist at 834-7825 if you can help for an hour. We will need about 20 volunteers. Prairie View extends

congratulations to the high school Jazz 1 for their acceptance into the Essentially Ellington competition on May 6-10.

We are preparing for our spring elementary tour. We are playing for Royal Oaks at the end of March and after spring

break we will be going to Westside, Horizon, and Creekside.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Band O Rama on April 13th!

Keep practicing and check that lesson schedule every week!

    A Message from the President

    A Rising Tide

There is an old saying made famous by John F. Kennedy (although, to be fair, he borrowed it from someone

else) that says, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” In this case, in layman’s terms, the saying means that what is good

for one band in Sun Prairie is good for all bands in Sun Prairie.

Once again the kids from our high school Jazz 1 band have earned the right to be called one of the top-15 high

school jazz bands in the country. They have earned this right through hard work, dedication, long hours,

superior instruction, and an environment of support for the band program that is second to none.

Now it is your turn to reaffirm your support of the Sun Prairie Band Program and lift all of the boats in the

Program by supporting the fundraising efforts of the Jazz 1 families, and the Sun Prairie Band Boosters as a

    whole.

Make no mistake, the burden of raising the funds needed to send these talented kids to New York – for a once in

a lifetime experience - is not solely the Jazz 1 parents’ to bear. It is all of ours!

    tel:608-225-5282mailto:[email protected]:608-837-3068mailto:[email protected]://www.google.com/url?url=http://ranibu.wordpress.com/2013/12/09/mess-into-a-message/&rct=j&frm=1&q=&esrc=s&sa=U&ei=CissVPqRNJG2yASgmYD4Aw&ved=0CB4Q9QEwBDgo&usg=AFQjCNGNNtldk8M2YJGJ9kTz3R_c70vXUA

“But how does rising this tide lift my child’s boat,” you may be asking. Here’s how: because Jazz 1 has

EARNED the right to go to New York:

The Jazz 1 musicians will be inspired to continue their musical journey

We, once again, prove to the school board, Sun Prairie community, and surrounding communities that our band program is one of the finest in the state

World renowned clinicians want to work with the best programs in the country, which includes Sun Prairie; making our program even better

Young musicians are inspired by the possibility that they, too, may someday earn the right to be considered the finest in the country

The best programs attract and retain the best talent; which is needed to foster an environment of learning and love of music for our kids

As you can see, when you support the upcoming Jazz 1 fundraising efforts, you’re not just sending the Jazz 1

kids to New York, you’re sending all of our young musicians to New York, and everywhere else a love of

music can take them. You are helping us determine just how high our boats can rise. Won’t you join me?
