Film Festival
Dear parents, Last weekend saw a number of Reddam House 1st teams competing at various sports festivals and tournaments around the country, including golf, rugby, soccer and hockey. Well done to all the players who represented their school so admirably – and a big ‘thank you’ to the coaches and managers who gave of their time and expertise to make these special sporting events possible.
This year, Reddam House will be hosting its first annual Film Festival. Students will create their own original short films as part of an inter-house competition to be screened at a gala evening in August. As part of the launch of this new initiative, students were treated to a number of workshops in order to build some of the skills they will need to produce these films.
Last Wednesday our students learnt about acting and writing for film, various directing and film techniques and even how to create realistic make up for the screen. City Varsity students, lecturers and alumni ran these workshops and an excellent time was had by all.
We are looking forward to seeing the final products in August!

Golf Tour
Hockey Festival
The Reddam 1st Golf team travelled to Sun City over the long weekend to compete in one of the most prestigious annual high school golf tournaments. The tournament was played over three days.
It was incredible for the boys to play on one of South Africa's most famous golf courses, the Gary Player, which plays host to the Nedbank Golf Challenge each year. The course is steeped in golfing history and the presence of golfing legends line the clubhouse. It proved to be a tough challenge in comparison to the Lost City course, but our boys really enjoyed the test.
In a highly competitive field of 21 teams, Reddam finished 9th overall and 2nd amongst the Western Cape schools. It was great to see the boys adapt to challenging conditions and play some really good golf. (Report by Mr Stacey- team manager)
Individual results:
21st - Charlie Reid (245)
31st - Michael Copeman (249)
49th - Daniel Benjamin (260)
54th - Alex Tarr (264)
64th - Hwee Hur (273)
Over the long weekend the U19 Boys and Girls Hockey sides attended the Oakhill Co-Ed Hockey Festival in Knysna. The tour proved to be highly successful with the girls returning undefeated. This was a wonderful way to test the team's strengths as well as develop camaraderie and a love of the sport. We are very proud of the wonderful improvements made by the team and look forward to the season and seeing how the girls will improve even more. (Report by Ms Ashwell – team manager)
SPORTS NEWS
Rugby Festival
Last weekend, the 1st Reddam Boys’ Hockey team travelled to Knysna to participate in the annual Oakhill Co-Ed Hockey Festival. The picturesque town of Knysna created the perfect backdrop to a really well organised hockey festival. Our Boys 1st team won 3 of the 5 games that they played. Over the course of the festival we scored 16 goals and conceded only 8. Compared with last year, our boys have really improved the standard of their hockey and the team received numerous compliments from their opponents. Special thanks must go to the Reddam staff who accompanied the boys to Knysna as well as those parents who braved the blistering heat on the side-lines cheering on the boys. (Report by Mr Blyth – team manager)
This past weekend the 1st Rugby XV took part in the annual WBHS sports festival where they played two matches - against Bishops and WBHS’ 3rd teams. Although they lost both these matches the Reddam team can be very proud of their performance as at times they played some very good rugby and scored some excellent tries. Attending a festival of this nature will stand the 1st XV in good stead for the league matches lying ahead. (Report by Mr Kriel – team manager)
Soccer Festival
Netball News
Equestrian News
The U19 Soccer team participated in the annual Wynberg Sports Festival last weekend. The tournament was played over a period of three days with each team playing a total of five games. The Reddam Soccer team was faced with the tough challenge of playing against the top soccer teams in the area during the duration of the tournament.
We won one game out of the five games we played. The tournament was well organized and our boys conducted themselves in an impeccable manner.
I would like to thank Reddam parents and staff who provided overwhelming support throughout the tournament. (Report by Mr Linda – team manager)
Congratulations to Georgie Bester, Abbi Deacon and Katie Bailey who made it through to the next round of the U14 netball trials. They only selected one player for each position from all of the Southern Suburbs girls, so they did exceptionally well to get through. We would like to wish them the best of luck next week in the second round of trials at Herschel!
Congratulations are also extended to Amy Harding (U15), together with Claudia Bray and Gabriella Michlo (U16) who also made it through to the 2nd round of netball trials next week. Well done girls and best wishes for next week!
Congratulations to Daniel Moore and his horse Mega Jet
who travelled to George to compete in the Western Cape
Eventing Championships this past weekend. They won their
class finishing on their dressage score.
Well done Daniel and Jet!
Rowing News
Congratulations to Ella Cheminais for winning the Inanda 90cm Championship Johannesburg recently. Ella then went on to compete in her first Open 1m Eventing competition and won that event too.
Well done, Ella!
It was also a very successful weekend for Molly Gregory who won the Western Cape Eventing Junior 90cm championship on her horse, Eagles Lyric. She was also awarded the “2015 Victor Ludorum Pony Novice Eventer” Cup and the “2016 Victor Ludorum Pony Open Eventer” Cup on her pony, Tayeebah.
Congratulations Molly!
Congratulations to Francis Hill who recently
participated in the National SA Club
Championship regatta held in East London this
past weekend. This is a premier regatta held
annually and this year had more than 520
athletes from 5 different provinces competing in
the races. We are very proud of Francis who
received a bronze medal in the Open Pair and
a silver medal in the Open Four competition.
