From the Director

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, having been set up by the Government of

India in the year 1963, has achieved a niche in the domain of International

Business by blending business knowledge with creative research,

pioneering executive development programmes, international linkages

and industry interventions into the curricular corpus.

At IIFT, we have been an active learner all these years by continually focusing on maintaining global

perspective on issues but with realistic grounding in local conditions. This practical approach has given

our students an unbeatable edge in the national as well as international arena. It is because of its all-

around achievements that the Institute was awarded the status of Deemed University in May 2002 and

accredited in May 2005 as “A” grade institution by National Assessment and Accreditation Council

(NAAC) an autonomous institution of University Grants Commission. Leading surveys have rated IIFT

as one of the top ten business schools in the country.

IIFT achieved its stature on the strengths of its faculty members, who have been active nationally and

internationally in academia, students, dedicated staff members and excellent infrastructure. There is

regular exchange of faculty and students to and from the leading international Business Schools with

which IIFT has strategic alliance. The programmes offered at the Institute have not only addressed the

requirement of the different times but always have had orientation towards the preparedness for the

future. No wonder then that the international business education at the Institute has been a trendsetter

and a benchmark in the country. The Institute is widely recognized in India and abroad for its expertise

and the vast body of knowledge developed by it over these years.

The Institute offers a variety of programmes that cater to the requirements of trade, industry and

participants from different verticals. The one-and-a-half-year long Executive Post Graduate Diploma in

International Business (EPGDIB) is designed for the busy executives. Understanding the busy schedules

and workplace related commitments of the executives, the programme has classroom sessions on every

alternate weekends.

I extend an invitation to you to become a part of the dynamic learning process at the Institute and trust at

the end of the course you will discover yourself as a 'complete' manager.

My Best wishes with you.

K.T. Chacko

Towards this objective, the Centre has successfully conducted various Capacity Building Programmes and undertaken initiatives on export promotion for SMEs at national and international level.

At national level, it has imparted training in major areas including processed food, textiles and leather aiming towards developing awareness about various trade issues in collaboration with APEDA, Textiles Committee, Council for Leather Exports and various export promotion initiatives including development of web applications on “Product Market Identification” and “Compendium on Export Promotion Schemes and Institutes” in collaboration with UNCTAD and creation of export facilitation centre in collaboration with state level EPCs and Chambers of Commerce.

At international level, the Centre has established a wide network in GMS countries including Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and China in collaboration with institutes and organizations including Mekong Institute & International Institute for Trade and Development (Thailand), SMEPDO

(Lao PDR), Vietnam Chambers of Commerce and Industry & Young Business Associations (Vietnam), etc. The Centre has signed an MOU with Mekong Institute to facilitate towards its initiatives on enhancing trade competitiveness within GMS region.
