How should you respond spiritually to the
coronavirus (COVID-19)? As you are aware, we are moving to a different scenario in the global response to the
coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Restrictions on Churches, businesses and families are
relaxing a little after two months of stay safe suggestions. Thank You, Lord Jesus!
COVID-19 is yet one more reminder that we live in a fallen and broken world. Ultimately,
none of us is immune to this reality. But God has not left us alone. Jesus came to heal, as
His own words testify: “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring
Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that captives will be released, that
the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free.” (Luke 4:18) He has conquered sin
and death and is coming again in glory to bring a new heaven and a new earth, where
there will be no suffering, no sickness, and no death. Our God sits on His throne and
because we have hope in Jesus, we can have peace in even the most challenging
circumstances!
While you’re trusting Jesus in this changing situation, here are some other ways you can
respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19):
Pray: for mercy and healing for the sick, strength and endurance for medical
professionals, insight for researchers, and wisdom for city and government officials.
Pray: for the families of those we lost from our fellowship during this time: Evelyn
Hoffman, Al Bacon, Donna Boelter and Liz Hamlett, the mother of Shelia Ullrich. Thanks to
the Lord for the new life within our fellowship as Jessica & Brandon Westerholm
welcomed baby girl Ava-Jane, Malerie & James Eichenholz welcomed baby girl Finley
Reese and Kylie & Lee Gudgell welcomed baby girl Katherine Darcy. Pray also for the new
marriage of Lacy Herbold and Ryan Beran, married at Faith in April.
Commit to loving people: Look for opportunities to love and care for others with the
love that Christ has shown to us. Jesus says that people will know Him by the love His
people have for others.
Respond to racism. The church should be grieved with God by the rise in racist incidents
and language, most recently during COVID-19. Much of the rise has been against the
Asian community, as some ill-informed people try to blame a whole people group for this
pandemic, which is not true! God desires people from every tongue, tribe, and nation to
experience and know the love of Christ. The Church and individual believers must lead this
effort to end bigotry - so let us be people who reject every instance of prejudice and
proclaim the Gospel to all people. I encourage you to reach out in love to your friends or
coworkers who are of Asian descent; check in on them, give them the space to talk,
reflect, grieve, and process their emotions openly.

Romans 12:15-16 instructs us to “Be happy with those who are happy,
and weep with those who weep. 16 Live in harmony with each other. Don’t
be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think
you know it all! I encourage you to make caring for people part of your
response to the pandemic.
Mission, Vision, Values and Identity: Your Church Staff and Council have
been working for some time trying to gain God’s direction for Faith
Lutheran. Part of this process is to clearly answer the questions: What
does God want Faith Lutheran to do? Where does God want Faith
Lutheran to go? What does God want Faith Lutheran to value? What does
God want Faith Lutheran to be? I am happy to report that we are hearing
from God and making progress. Here is a summary of what we believe
answers these questions:
Mission: Join Jesus in making disciples of all people. (Matthew 28:19-
20)
Vision: We will be a congregation that engages people to become
Christ-followers.
Identity: We are imperfect people, saved by grace, willing to risk it all
to share the Good News of Jesus Christ!
Values: We are still refining these, but here are some values – the non
-negotiables of our congregation – that I can share at this time:
We believe that the Church exists to bring glory to God, to
develop disciples and to bring the Gospel to those not yet
connected to Jesus Christ.
We believe in Biblical, Grace-Oriented Teaching. Bible-centered
preaching and teaching that changes lives is at the heart of
our ministry.
We believe excellence honors God and inspires people. We
value vibrant worship done with excellence that exalts
Christ and the spirits of those who worship through Word
and Sacraments.
We believe that God is transforming us into passionate
Disciples of Christ who continually study His Word and live
out faith with prayer, action and contagious enthusiasm.
More will be shared soon, and we, as Christ-followers, will work on this
together in prayer and study to follow the Lord Jesus and continue His
work! I am so excited that we will be worshipping together very soon!

Church Council Communication Corner Normally, the Church Council meets the second Tuesday of every month at
6:30 PM in the small kitchen.
Highlights from the May Council Meeting:
All members were present on May 12 for the monthly Council Meeting through the use of Zoom technology.
Discussion Items:
Protocols for starting on-site worship were discussed with committees reporting on Holy Communion, removing touch points, and the acceptance of the bid from Texas Sanitary Solutions for cleaning the church. Council members would serve as ushers for the first two weeks of on-site worship. Letters outlining procedures will be sent to the congregation.
The COVID grant received on April 22 was reviewed.
The current on-call arrangement for IT assistance is sometimes time-delayed. The need for a part-time consultant to serve the needs of the church was tabled until the next meeting.
Register for Vacation Bible School Today! Rocky Railway will be held the week of July 13-17. All children and
grandchildren of Faith members are invited to attend and bring a friend with
them to Vacation Bible School. We will be limiting the number attending this
year to ensure the safety of all participants, so be sure to
register as soon as possible. You may register for VBS on-
line at vbspro.events/p/9f58ad or pick up a registration
form outside of the children’s ministry office. If you are
going to bring a friend, be sure to register them, also. The
exact days and time of day during this week are still to be
determined.
FOOD DRIVE
Faith will not be hosting
the SA Food bank food
distribution in June. The
city and other
government
organizations have
teamed up to hold
“mega distributions in
the community. We
encourage you to
volunteer with them to
help this cause.
Baptismal Font Renovation:
Your Church Council approved a renovation to the Baptismal Font . Soon a new Baptismal Font will be made from our current
lectern and the existing portable Font will now find a permanent place in the Narthex. In Lutheran worship practice, the Pulpit
represents the Word of God proclaimed, the Altar reminds us of the sacrifice of Jesus and the Font, the promise of God to claim us
as children by faith in Jesus. Our current set up has the Font moving in and out as needed. When this repurposing happens the
current Font will be placed in the Narthex and be on display in celebration of all who have been baptized over the past 54 years at Faith Lutheran. The new font will now join the Pulpit and Altar as
permanent parts of our worship life at Faith.

The Day of Pentecost is upon us this year on May 31. Each year we pause to celebrate the birthday of the church and the day when the Holy Spirit was made manifest in powerful ways in and through the followers of Jesus as recounted in the second chapter of Acts. It is a day to remember that the Holy Spirit continues to work in and through the followers of Jesus today in small and mighty ways and to pray for God to revive and renew the Church through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. It is indeed my prayer that the Day of Pentecost is a beautiful celebration and that Holy Spirit once again moves with power in and through followers of Jesus the world over.
But perhaps even more important than the activity on the Day of Pentecost is what happens next. In Acts 2:42-47 we read about what the followers of Jesus were up to after this glorious day: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. … They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.”
Not a one of us has escaped being significantly impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our life has been interrupted in ways that would have seemed unthinkable just three months ago. But in light of Pentecost and the biblical account of the activity of Jesus’ followers that took place in the days afterwards, I can’t help but to pause and ask the question, “What are we devoting ourselves to?” If an account were being written in the coming months about the activity of Jesus’ followers in the summer of 2020 in light of COVID-19, what would be written about us and our devotion?
It is my hope and prayer that in spite of social distancing regulations and other challenging restrictions, followers of Jesus today will once again be known for our devotion to the same activities as recorded in Acts 2. Wouldn’t it be great if the story told about the church in the days ahead is one of awe and wonder as to our devotion to our faith, our remarkable care and concern for those in need, and our joy in the midst of the pain? What else shall be written about us in these days ahead? Empowered by the Holy Spirit, may we devote ourselves to gospel activity in the world around us.

Preschool News Submitted by Preschool Director Sharon Stollewerk
The month of May found us once again missing our preschool students,
and all of the end of year programs and activities that we love. We had
two more drive-throughs in which educational packets with fun crafts
were handed out. On May 21, which would have been our last official day
of preschool, we welcomed students with signs and decorations signifying
the end of school and the beginning of summer. Each student was gifted
with a beach pail filled with fun items from their teacher. It was
bittersweet as we were so excited to see everyone again but sad knowing
that many would not be returning as they move on to Kindergarten. We
wish them well and hope their memories from Faith Lutheran stay with
them. We are excited to be reopening on June 1 with our Summer
Extended Care program and our Fulltime 2's class. We will be following
the Minimum Standard Health Protocols for childcare centers released by
the Centers of Disease Control. We will be taking every precaution to
ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. We ask for your
continued prayers as we move forward in this "new normal."

News from Lutheran Women of Faith: We have discovered that the Texas District LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary
League – women from the Missouri Lutheran Church) have a project called Lutheran World Relief STAMPOREE, and they have invited us to support
them. This project is saving all cancelled postage stamps. They collect the stamps, sort them and then sell them to dealers. The money is then used to
support LWR Project Comfort, which provides funding for the shipping of quilts, kits and clothing to those in need around the world. Over the years this project
has provided more than $40,000 for LWR Project Comfort.
Anyone (so we invite all members of Faith) can participate by saving cancelled stamps (cut ¼” around each edge of the stamp, so as not to damage it). You
actually don’t even have to cut the stamps off the envelopes. Ask your friends, neighbors, and any business that might receive a lot of mail to save their
envelopes for you. Then when you have a bag or large envelope full of either envelopes, or stamps that were cut off as indicated, bring them to the small
kitchen and place them in the bin for LWR items. They will then be delivered to the LWML Stamporee Chairman in Kyle, TX.
If you want to participate or have questions, please contact Doris Engelhardt for
