Thetermbalancedliteracymayhaveseveralmeaningsintheworldofateacher.Itmightmeanbalancingwholelanguageandphonicsapproachestoteachingreadingandwriting.Balancedliteracycouldrefertospecificcomponentssuchasdirectinstruction,interactivereadaloud,guidedreading,strategygroups,conferring,wordstudy,etc.Thistermshouldalsorefertobalancingateacher'sworkloadtoensureourreadingblockisfullofjoyforeveryoneinvolved!Asteachers,weareoftenleftwiththecomplicatedtaskofscheduling,organizingandplanningforourreadingworkshoptostrikethisperfectbalanceofteachingresponsivelytoourstudents'strengthsandneedswhilestrivingtomeettheCommonCoreStateStandards.Ifyouareponderingabouthowyoumightreviewand/orreviseyourcurrentreadinginstructionwithbalanceinmind,thissessionisforyou.

Thissessionwilladdressthisdiscouragementandprovideteacherswithstrategiestoopenthedoorforstrugglingreadersandallowthemaccesstorichideasinthetext.Studentswillbeabletoreadwithconfidenceacrossthecontentareas.
