Footstep noise preventionWith TSB footstep noise preventionboxes, an acoustic decoupling of thestairwell installation from the livingareas is achieved.TSB footstep noise prevention boxescan equally well be installed in brick-work or concrete walls. Prefabricatedlandings with integral TSB footstepnoise prevention boxes as mountingpoints are easy to lay and preventfootstep noise bridges.

The minimum joint width between the landing and the stairwell wall must be greater than 0.8 cm. The joint must becarefully examined for sound bridges. Optimum footstep noise prevention is achieved with the footstep noise plate inthe joint between the TSB elements.Every sound bridge reduces the footstep noise absorption of the TSB elements by ca. 3 - 5 dB.

Brickwork: Type TSB 55 M+B
1. Place the Schall-Isobox on the mortar bed.
2. Build over the Schall-Isobox.
3. Remove braces after the brickwork has set.
1. Mark the exact position of theSchall-Isobox on the shuttering.
2. Fix the base plate positively in thepreviously determined position bymeans of nails or screws.
3. Place the Schall-Isobox on thebase plate and apply pressureuntil the Schallbox is flush with theshuttering.
4. Concrete and seal the wall evenly.5. After removing the shuttering from
the wall, remove the braces com-pletely from the Schall-Isobox.
Prefabricated landing: Type TSB 55 F 1. When installing, observe the inscription TOP2. The Schall-Isobox can be placed in the shuttering of the prefabrication
immediately or on the pockets of the prefabrication retrospectively.3. The pockets of the prefabrication must maintain the following dimensions

1. Ensure that butt joints are properly sealed during installation. The founda-tion surface should be as free from dust as possible ( pre-coat with a deepsealer if necessary); in this way the best adhesion can be achieved.
2. TSP footstep noise plates can be glued to foundation surfaces such asbrickwork, concrete, steel, wood, rubber-type materials etc. without anyproblems.

Staircase connector Type HT-VStairs are usually constructed fromconcrete with a rigid connection tothe building. Their surface is oftenmade from stone or similar materialon account of the high resistance towear that is required. The conse-quence of this is that the noise ofpeople walking can be heard inneighbouring rooms due to the trans-mission of sound through the build-ing and time and again is objectedto as being unreasonable.In order to reduce the transmission ofthe noise of footsteps from the stairsto neighbouring sound-sensitiverooms to the levels permitted by DIN4109 in „remote living rooms”, itmust be ensured that, as far as possi-ble, stairs are not rigidly connectedto the building. The staircase connec-tor Type HT-V is used for the acousticdecoupling of the staircase and thelanding.
Static systemThe connection of the staircase to thelanding takes place in the form of anarticulated joint. Only transverse andhorizontal forces can be transmitted.The live load assumptions are to bechosen in accordance with DIN1055 Part 3. The Schall-Iso elementType HT-V serves to provide a posi-tive connection between, uniformlydistributed active loads.
Sizing table/type testedThe Schall-Iso element Type HT-Vconsists of an isolating body made ofgalvanised sheet steel and a fillingmaterial made from non-inflammableA1 material. In order to absorb thetransverse forces, ribbed concretereinforcing bars BSt 500NR areincorporated into the profile andbent at 77°. The horizontal forcesare transferred via the joint bymeans of two ribbed concrete rein-forcing bars BSt 500NR, which crossone another.The values are applicable to concreteof strength class ≥ B 25.

The compression component from the diagonally fitted transverse force rods istransmitted via elastomer mountings. When sizing the connecting reinforce-ment on both sides of the Schall-Iso element, the moments due to the eccentricconnection must be taken into account. The moments resulting from the designloading must be superimposed upon these moments with the same sign.

Sections and design information
Only the reinforced concrete components can be acoustically isolated using the Type HT-V Schall-Iso element. Furtherpoints of detail must be properly implemented in order to prevent continuous sound bridges.
– The connection between the landing covering and the staircase covering must be permanently elastic.
– The plaster on the underside of the landing or staircase must be interrupted in the area of the Schall-Iso element andmade permanently elastic.
– Landing and staircase must also be separated from the stairwell walls at the side, e.g. by means of the TSP self-adhesive footstep noise plate.
– A floating floor screed should be provided in the area of the landing.

– A suspension reinforcement (Item 2) sized for the maximum transverse force is to be arranged at the end of thecomponent on the Schall-Iso Type HT-V in the connection of the load-carrying component.
– The face surfaces of the components to be connected must have an edging in accordance with DIN 1045 (07/88).(Item 4)
– The shear stresses in the components in the area where the load is applied must be limited to τ02 in accordance withDIN 1045, Tab. 13.
– A transverse reinforcement in accordance with DIN 1045, Number 18.5.2.3, must be installed in the area in whichthe transverse force rods are anchored. (Item 5 and 6).
– The bottom longitudinal reinforcement of the load-carrying component, which is to be brought up to the support, is to be taken as far as the Schall-Iso element (taking into account the concrete covering), bent upwards and ade-quately anchored. (Item 1).
– A static calculation must be carried out for the adjacent components at both ends.– The staircase is to be sized with articulated mountings at both ends.– When sizing the connecting reinforcement on both sides of the Schall-Iso element, the moments due to the eccentric
connection must be taken into account. The moments resulting from the design loading must be superimposed uponthese moments with the same sign.

Installation instructions
– Fit shuttering for staircase and landing.
– Cover the side-cheeks of the stair-case with Type TSP self-adhesivefootstep noise plate.
– If the landing is also acousticallydecoupled from the core of thestairwell by means of TSB footstepnoise boxes, here too the jointbetween the landing and the wallmust be made using a TSP foot-step noise plate.
– Nail the bottom U-section to thelanding shuttering.
– Slide the Schall-Iso element intothe U-section.
– Nail the top U-section onto a roof-ing lath and clamp to the Schall-Iso element.
– Align the Schall-Iso element verti-cally and fix to the shutteringcheeks or to the wall of the stair-well by means of the roofing lath.
– Lay the on-site reinforcement.– Fit the face shuttering for the steps
of the staircase.– Cast
Important:– The end hooks are always on the
stair side and point upwards.– The joint between the Schall-Iso
element Type HT-V and the foot-step noise plate Type TSP must beabsolutely tight in order to avoidpossible sound bridges.

Especially when combining retro-spectively laid prefabricated stair orlanding components, SCHALL-ISODORN boxes can be easily fittedin the walls of the stairwell on siteby means of recessed pockets.
Footstep noise bridges are preventedtogether with the self-adhesive TSPfootstep noise protection plates.
The thickness of the landing can be18 cm or 20 cm. The SCHALL-ISODORN Type JSD SO can be usedfor spiral staircases from a side-cheek thickness of 12 cm. Positiveand negative transverse forces canbe absorbed by the individual types.If horizontal transverse forces are tobe absorbed, these can be struc-turally accommodated by TSP-Hfootstep noise protection plates orwith SCHALL-ISODORN boxes andintegral horizontal mountings.

Prefabricated landings with Type JSD SF
1. When installing, observe the inscription top.
2. The JSD SF boxes are arranged in the recessed openings. It must beensured that the top and bottom of the JSD SF box are arranged positivelyand snugly in the recess. The JSD SF box can be laid on the brickwork witha tolerance of 2 cm. If the elastomer mounting is arranged flush with thefront edge of the wall, compensating shims are to be used in all cases.
3. The recess opening should have the following dimensions
Length ≥ 300 mmHeight ≥ 250 mmDepth ≥ 170 mm
4. The max. width of joint between the prefabricated landing and the JSD SFbox is 0.5 cm. The joint is to be carefully examined for sound bridges.Optimum footstep noise prevention is achieved with the footstep noise platein the joint between the brickwork and the SCHALL-ISODORN elements.Every sound bridge reduces the footstep noise absorption of the JSDelements by ca. 3 - 5 dB.
5. For the installation of the JSH SFB or JSHQ SB box with integral sleeve inwalls to be cast, an angled plate is incorporated in the box for fitting to theshuttering.
6. For the required reinforcement on site, see type test.
7. Dimensional tolerances can be taken into account by means of compen-sating shims.
Prefabricated landings with Type JSD SO

of 2 cm. Dimensional tolerances can be taken into account by means ofcompensating shims. This can also be undertaken using a compensatingmortar. The JSD SO box can be laid on the brickwork with a tolerance of 2 cm. If the elastomer mounting is arranged flush with the front edge of thewall, compensating shims are to be used in all cases.The landings are to be cast locally.
