FROM PASSION TO ACTION: WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTRPRENEUR?

"Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change…”

FROM PASSION TO ACTION: WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE?

A venture that trades for a social and/or environmental purpose. It will have a clear sense of its ‘social mission’:  which means it will know what difference it is trying to make, who it aims to help, and how it plans to do it.  It will bring in most or all of its income through selling goods or services.  And it will also have clear rules about what it does with its profits, reinvesting these to further the ‘social mission’

EXERCISE: NETWORKING

Networking is a valuable tool to help you make connection's. This is a simple exercise to get you thinking about how networking within the OBSEA programme could help you.

1.Think about the client group or issue you feel passionate about and are hoping to address - now by speaking to as many people in as short a time as possible try to find the person or persons who are proposing to address an issue closest to your own. What have you got in common? How could you help each other?

2.Now think about your proposed business venture. Try to find the person who is looking to trade in a similar way to you – it could be by how you trade - online or through a retail outlet or by product type. What have you got in common? Is there scope for co-operation in any way?
