From Our Principal Welcome to Week 8. Can you believe that in three and a half weeks, you will all have your children home for the Christmas holidays! Between now and then however, we still have many exciting events coming our way. Please check the calendar, to ensure you don’t miss any of them. Swimming Program Our school swimming program has operated for the past two weeks and concluded on Friday. Congratulations to all students who participated for their enthusiasm and great effort and a very big thanks to Mrs Gayler for co-ordinating the event to support our kids. Thanks also to all other staff members who accompanied our students over the last two weeks. Staff News I am very excited to announce that we have employed an executive staff member in the position of “Leader of Learning – Literacy and Numeracy” for 2015. We welcome Mrs Amanda Lavercombe to this role and look forward to the many contributions she will make in the areas of staff professional development and support for students in literacy and numeracy. Mrs Lavercombe is an exemplary classroom teacher and has most recently been merit selected to the role of Instructional Leader at Mannering Park, Teralba and Fassifern Public Schools. Mrs Lavercombe will visit our school in the next week and will commence her role at the beginning of next year. We are in the process of appointing a temporary Assistant Principal (for 2015) to replace Mrs Herbert whilst she continues her role at Blackhalls Park PS. This is the position Mr Lewis has been fulfilling this year. Interviews for potential candidates were held today and we will announce the outcome of this process shortly. Mrs Dever has received a service transfer and will be moving to a school on the Central Coast next year. We are sad to see Mrs Dever leave after her wonderful work over the last few years here, but wish her all the best for her future teaching career. This leaves us with two (permanent) classroom teaching vacancies (Mr Lewis and Mrs Dever) which I am hoping will be filled by the end of this term. Thank You Toronto Workers Club I would like to extend a very big THANKYOU to Toronto Workers Club for their donation of some furniture to our Computer Room and Library. We now have adult sized tables and chairs that will be useful for staff meetings, parent meetings and information sessions, P&C meetings and the like. Thanks also to our wonderful P&C parents who coordinated the moving of the furniture from the club to our school site. Behaviour Expectations As we head into the final few weeks of term, I’d like to remind all students that our behaviour expectations remain the same. At all times, we expect Toronto students to uphold our values of respect, safety and learning. We have wonderful end of year opportunities available to ALL students who continue to follow our school rules. End of year experiences such as the pool day for years 3-6, Year Six Farewell and the movie day and water fun day for K-2 students are a privilege that we want all students to participate in, however, we need to be confident that in taking students off our school site for these excursions, all students can keep themselves and others safe. Please talk to your children about our expectations and we will continue to support them and remind them. We look forward to some really fun end of year activities. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping to make TPS an outstanding school. Student Leaders 2015 I will be meeting with all students who are candidates for our leadership positions (Captains and Prefects) sometime in the next week. I will be presenting them with the outline of expectations for these roles. All students who accept a position on our student leadership team will be required to sign an agreement TORONTO PUBLIC SCHOOL “Quality and Excellence…….Learning Together” 26-11-2014 OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE Connecting our community and our school through newsletters, photos and information. www.toronto-p.schools.nsw.edu.au

about their role. We will also be asking the parents of these students to sign the agreement. We have high expectations of all students at TPS and particularly those who are representing the student body as role models. School Captains and Prefects will be announced on Presentation Day. School Leavers Just a reminder to please let the school office know if your children will not be returning to Toronto PS next year. Have a safe and happy week everyone and remember – “Every job is a self portrait of the person who did it. Autograph your work with excellence.” – Jessica Guidobono Mrs Van Egmond

Assistant Principal As you can imagine, this is a very busy time of the year with many important school events taking place. Over the past few weeks, our kindergarten students for 2015 have been involved in many social and learning activities so that they will become familiar with our school for next year. Their parents have had the opportunity to meet some of the staff and learn about ways that they can support their children in English and Mathematics learning. Our year five students have been peer mentors for the new kindergarten children. Today the parents and children have participated in an enjoyable BBQ lunch. Many parents commented that our school transition program was very effective. They were pleased with the way

their children have settled into the school environment. Our students are looking forward to celebrating the end of the school year with an excursion to the movies at Glendale. You will receive a note home today about this event. We are also planning a water day for the lower primary students on the last Monday of the term. These fun activities will be a wonderful end to the school year. Please remind your children that they still need to follow our school rules of respect, safety and learning. Mrs Nerolie Goss

*Please Note* SCHOOL DROP OFF ZONE The area out the front of the school in Renwick Street is a “Drop off Zone” between 8am to 9.30am and 2.30am to 4.00pm. So far Froggy has been sailing with Evie, skateboarding with Charli, did cooking with Kylee, gone driving with Ellie, been to church with Jacob, went to the Catlina Festival with Georgia and had fun at the park with Bailey.

He has had a wonderful experience with every student and the class always enjoys hearing about his adventures. Below are some fantastic pictures of his adventures.
