Mission Statement: Guided by the power of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church will utilize our time, talent, and treasure through the roles of Priest, Prophet, and King to spread the Good News throughout our community and the world.
COMMUNAL RESPONSIBILITY
The people of God forgot the covenant and flouted God's laws. They did not listen to the prophets among them, who spoke for God in warning them. Prophets are sent from God to remind us why we are here, but they are often, even in our own time, mocked, disregarded, and mistreated rather than thanked and listened to. The book of Chronicles tells the results of these sins: the destruction of the temple and all of Jerusalem, murder, mayhem, and finally exile to a foreign land. Why are these stories in the Bible? Just to inform us of what happened to our ancient forebears? What good would that be unless there were a message and a warning for us as well? Are we people who follow the teachings of God, who obey the words of Christ in the second covenant in his blood? Or do we continue to wreak works of darkness and violence? We are reminded by these readings that we will be judged as a people, not just as individuals.

Centennial News
Our Second Bishop Appointed - On March 13, 1956, Pope Pius XII accepted the retirement of Bishop Jules Jeanmard after 37 years of episcopal ministry to the new diocese. The Holy Father appointed Bishop Maurice Schexnayder as the second Bishop of Lafayette. Bishop Schexnayder, born and raised along the banks of the Mississippi River, had served as the Auxiliary Bishop under Bishop Jeanmard for five years prior to his appointment as Bishop.
Schexnayder would oversee the diocese for 16 years until his retirement in 1972. He attended the Second Vatican Council and led the local Church through its early implementation. His episcopal motto, taken from the Salve Regina, was “Ad Te Clamamus” or “To Thee do we cry.”
Second Centennial Deanery Mass will be at St. Landry Catholic Church, our 2nd oldest canonically established Church in the Diocese, on March 23 at 6:30pm in Opelousas. All Clergy and Laity are invited to attend this Mass and reception with our Bishop Deshotel as we continue to honor and celebrate this Centennial Jubilee Year of our Diocese. This is an exciting year and it is good for all of us from all parts of the Diocese of Lafayette to come together for the Centennial Events to reflect upon our past and recommit to the future that God is leading us into. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.
On Mondays during Lent Sacred Heart will have a
7:00am morning Mass.
Rice Bowl We encounter Andrise, a teacher in Haiti who knows the importance of forming young people who will give back to the community - and their country. Reflect on the role teachers have played in bringing you closer to God and your community. How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more.
Everyone is invited to journey the Way of the Cross in church
each Friday during Lent at 5:30p.m. lead by our Pastor,

Disch-DeClouet Annual Campaign The Disch-DeClouet Social Service Center is a non-profit organization, run by 35 dedicated volunteers. The Center has served the poor and needy of Iberia Parish providing for critical and basic human needs (food, clothing, utility and rent assistance, and other help) for over 40 years. Last year alone, over 14,000 persons - our neighbors - were served. We are conducting our Annual Campaign which will run through the Lenten Season, and we need your help. We ask that you prayerfully consider investing in those less fortunate by sharing your gifts. Without additional financial support we cannot maintain the level of service that we have been giving for many years. The campaign envelope for your tax-deductible donation and the brochure for more information is located on the table in the church gathering area

World Down Syndrome Day March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day. Individuals with Down Syndrome have the presence of 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46 in some of their cells. Since the genetic accident presents three copies of the 21st chromosome, World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on the 21st day of the third month of the year.
Prayer for Down Syndrome O Holy St. Robert Bellarmine, I pray for your loving
intercession for the needs of those with Down syndrome. May you be at the side of every mother with child, that
she will have the faith to overcome worldly thoughts and fears that could distract her from recognizing the precious gift of life growing within her. May you be at the side of
the parents, families, friends, teachers, and caregivers that they will have the grace to know the Lord's merciful hand
is guiding them through life's joys and struggles. May they place their hope and complete trust in Jesus. St.
Robert Bellarmine, help me to keep my eyes open for the opportunity to show my love like Jesus and not to let fear of the unknown prevent me from doing the Divine Will. I
ask you to entrust these intentions to the Most Blessed Virgin Mary that she may place them before the altar of
the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus. Amen
