We all wish to see our children go out into the world as confident, respectful and willing participants in society, following whatever journey they choose for themselves. We hope they listen to the wisdom and knowledge of us as adults and we continue to engage the students in the wonder of learning. Our Outdoor Education Program is a significant part of our curriculum. Not only does is develop an appreciation of different environments, it supports resilience and fosters the social cohesion of the Class. To this end, we aim for 100% attendance on camps. The personal growth, experiences and memories of their time in the Outdoor Education Programme resound positively throughout life. Education is a collaborative partnership between parents and teachers for the developmental benefit of students. Clear rules and boundaries assist us to secure the best outcomes. The Respectful Relationship Team at Sophia Mundi is actively working towards clarity between students, staff and parents. Resilience (emotional and physical), equality and equity are all explicitly worked through across the school in Life Skills classes. If you would like to understand our work here please contact your child’s Class/ Guardian Teacher. While the School has clear identifiable values, rules and guidelines, timetables and curriculum, each family has their own set of values. Each child has therefore to amalgamate a dual set of parameters and values and apply them to daily life. The stronger teachers and parents can align these values the healthier our students will be. Generally, this relationship works beautifully however when challenges arise it is important that the adults in the students’ lives search deep within. It is important that the adults take responsibility to allow the children to be children. On a purely practical note, I ask that when conflict does arise that your first contact is with the Class Teacher/Guardian, if there is no resolution, then speak with the Head of Faculty and then lastly contact me, as the Principal. The ‘Disputes and Complaints Policy’ can be found on the School website (www.sophiamundi.vic.edu. au/community/handbook-policies) Arrivals and Departures - Earlier this week I announced that Ramana Dean will be the Class 1 Teacher next year. We are thrilled to have Ramana join the staff with his wealth of knowledge in Early Childhood and experience in biodynamic gardening. In 2018 we will also welcome Nicholas Andreatta (Alumni class of 2006) in Outdoor Education, joining Anneke Top. It is exciting to welcome Alumni as teachers at Sophia Mundi. Rohan Vickers will join out Middle School as the Theatre and English Teacher. Rohan has been employed as a Casual Relief Teacher at Sophia Mundi during this year and we are excited he is joining our permanent staff. Elizabeth Morrell will commence in the role of Class 4 Teacher as our Hugh Fowler heads north to Cairns Steiner School to be their Class 1 teacher. We wish Hugh and his wife, Javiera all the best on their journey and look forward to seeing them at Sophia Mundi in the future. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Open Day / Spring Fair next Sunday, 12 November. Warm regards, Fiona Cock – Principal

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Class 8 went to visit the Pop-up Globe, the world’s first full-scale temporary working replica of one of the greatest theatres in history. We saw a hilarious adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, set on a Polynesian island, brimming with slap-stick, innuendo, amazing island music & banana police. The show was attended by high school students from across the inner city, and all were filled with mirth and uproar! A fabulous Shakespearean experience.Tanya Rao, Class Teacher

The Pre-Prep class would be for those children who have outgrown Kindergarten but not yet quite ready for the full Prep experience.

If this is the case for your family and you are interested in exploring these opportunities, please contact Tania Sarmas - [email protected].
