Frog Hat Pattern

Size • 3 months, 12 months, toddler, child, teen• Hat circumference: 16”, 18”, 20”, 21”, 22”

Supplies needed • Size 10.5 circular needles 16 inches• Size 10.5 double point 10.5 needles• Darning needle• Gauge 4 stitches to an inch holding two strands together• Yarn

o Cascade Yarn 220 Superwash 906 chartreuse for hat and eyeo Cascade Yarn 220 Superwash 1913 jet for pupil of eyeo Cascade Yarn 220 Superwash 871 white for eye sclerao Another type yarn may be substituted that reaches the correct gauge

Pattern Stockinet Stitch for attachments Knit in the round for the hat.

Sizes 3 months, 12 months, toddler, child and teen On 16 inch size 10.5 circular needles cast on with two strands of yarn cast on 64(72, 80, 84, 88) stitches with Cascade 220 Superwash 906 Work pattern in the round being careful not to twist the first round with two strands until piece measures 6(7, 8, 8.5, 9.5) inches. Begin decreases

• Row 1 – Knit 2, Knit 2 together the entire row• Row 2 – Knit• Row 3 – Knit 1, Knit 2 together the entire row• Row 4 – Knit• Row 5 – Knit 2 together the entire row• Row 6 – Knit• Row 7 – Cut the yarn and pull through remaining stitches• Pull yarn tightly and tie off.

Frog Eye Pieces Green base of eye (make two)

• Cast on 5 stitches with Cascade 906 on 10.5 double point needles• Knit 1St row• Purl 2nd row• Knit in the front and back of first of last stitch to increase to 7 stitches on 3 row (7

stitches)• Purl 4th row• Repeat row 3 and 4 (9 stitches)• Work 4 additional rows in Stockinet stitch• Decrease on the 5th knit row by knitting first and last two stitches together (7 stitches)• Purl one row• Decrease on the next knit row by knitting the first and last two stitches together (5

stitches)• Work 3 rows in stockinet and bind off on the 4th row.

White eye sclera (make two) • Cast on 3 stitches with Cascade 871 on 10.5 double point needles• Knit 1st row• Purl 2nd row• Row 3rd Knit in the front and back of the first and last stitch to increase to 5 stitches• Purl one row• Repeat row 3 and 4. (7 stitches)• Work three additional rows in stockinet stitch.• Decrease by knitting first and last two stitches together (5 stitches)• Purl one row• Repeat last two rows with decrease on the knit row (3 stitches)• Repeat first two rows and bind off on the third purl row.

Black eye pupil (make two) • Cast on 3 stitches with Cascade 1913• Work 3 rows beginning with a knit row in stockinet stitch• Increase one stitch in the first and last stitch (5 stitches)• Continue working 5 rows• On the 6th row decrease in the first and last stitch by knitting 2 together (3 stitches)• Work 3 additional rows and on the 4th row bind off.

Frog Mouth • Cast on 3 stitches with Cascade 1913.• Mouth is worked in an I cord.• Knit 3 stitches and do not turn needle. Pull the yarn from the end of the needle around

and work the three stiches in a knit row again. Repeat this until you have knittedapproximately 3 inches.

Finishing • Sew white eye sclera to the green eye pad.• Sew both sides of the bobble together and attach to the white sclera• Attach completed eye to the front of the hat• Attach mouth to hat.• Weave in loose ends on the hat.
