The Golden Hawks Band Boosters The HSHS Band Booster is the non-profit, volunteer parent organization that supports and provides assistance to our Holly Springs

High School Golden Hawks Band program. Our purpose includes:

Supporting the efforts of the band director and all band members.

Providing financial assistance for student participation through the use of fees, fundraising, and contributions.

Encouraging active participation of parents and members of the community in the band program and the Holly Springs High

School Band Boosters.

Stimulating and sustaining interest in the band program among students, faculty, parents and the community.

Promoting closer contact and cooperation among the director, administration, community and parents of band members.

Every parent or guardian who has a student in the Golden Hawks Band is a member of the booster organization. In fact, parent

involvement is critical to the success of both each individual student and the entire band. Monthly meetings are held to stay current

on the many activities of the band program.

From the Director It has been an honor to witness the growth of our members both musically and as human beings over the past ten years. When I

first visited the construction site of our school in 2006, I was overcome by a powerful feeling that this is where I was supposed to be.

I have been thoroughly blessed to have amazing students, parents, administration, and community members who shared my vision

of excellence and have helped to bring many dreams to reality. Together we have accomplished some amazing things in a short

period of time.

None of this would be possible without the belief that what we are doing is important, that the essence of band means working

together for the common good, and a great work ethic. Our members have worked diligently to prepare challenging programs to

share with you. We have always had the audience in mind with our productions, and I hope you have enjoyed listening and

watching them as much as we have enjoyed preparing them.

Thank you to all of the supporters listed in our program, as well as our 10th anniversary Alumni Reunion and Celebration Team,

Band Booster Executive Board, Band Booster Volunteers, Fine Arts Department, Technical Theater Students, Transportation Crew,

and staff and administration of HSHS. You help us make all of this possible, and you will never fully know how valuable you really

are. A special thank you to Mike Oare. I am so glad that we were able collaborate once again on such a meaningful celebration for

our program. I have enjoyed calling you a mentor and friend for so many years, and look forward to continuing a partnership for

many years to come.

To my family, words cannot fully express how much you mean to me. This career choice keeps me away from home a lot,

however, you are always in my thoughts. I would not enjoy these successes without you in my life. My parents first encouraged me

to pursue music, and knew at an early age what truly inspired me. Thank you for supporting me throughout this journey.

I have truly enjoyed conducting the future of tomorrow. It has moved my heart to see so many alums return and take part in this

celebration. I am so proud of your accomplishments and what you are contributing to society. I never doubted it. To my seniors, I

have always wanted the best for you and pushed you to achieve when you sometimes did not think you had it in you. I hope you

will stay in touch and visit often. I look forward to hearing about all of the great things that you will continue to accomplish in your

life. You are the best!

Concert Etiquette A performer’s intense concentration can be interrupted by little things that may seem trivial to audience members. The following

suggestions will help audience members show respect to the performers on stage, as well as other members of the audience.

When to Applaud Performers always appreciate applause, but there are appropriate moments to applaud. In a multi-movement work, applaud after all

movements are completed. This allows the continuity of the piece to flow from one movement to the next. “Hooting and hollering”

is not appropriate in the concert setting.

Arrival Time Arrive early to allow enough time for traffic and parking. If you do arrive late, wait by the doors until the first piece (not just a

movement) is finished, then discreetly take the nearest seat available.

Entering and Exiting the Auditorium Never enter or exit the auditorium during a performance. If you must enter or exit, please wait until the performance on stage has

been completed. The most appropriate times to move about are during audience applause or set changes.

Talking Talking should not be tolerated. It is not only distracting to the performers, but to every person in the audience. While seemingly

innocent, even whispering can be heard during a musical performance. If someone around you is talking, ask them nicely to please

stop.

Other Noises Avoid rustling your program, tapping your foot, bouncing your legs, etc. Pagers and cell phones should be turned off. Watches

set to beep on the hour should also be turned off. These high-pitched beeps are distracting to the performance and audience

members.

Coughing It is hard to avoid a spontaneous cough. Be prepared with some type of cough drops or candies. Avoid cellophane wrappers.

Many come with a soft wax-paper wrapping that will be much less noisy.

Taking Pictures Refrain from taking any photographs during a performance. The click of a camera and especially the flash are very

distracting. Pictures should be taken after the performance.

Children Children need exposure to good music and live performances. If your young child begins to get restless in the middle of a

performance, it may be best that you exit the auditorium until calmer times prevail.

By following basic edicts of respect and consideration, performers and the audience will have a more pleasurable and meaningful

experience as they perform and attend live concerts.

To Mr. B,

So here again is the end of another crazy school year, and it seems

that in its craziness, we always forget to thank the single most important

member of our band — the key player in our success. No one has given as much

time, as much thought, or as much love as you have.

And for that we thank you.

We thank you for the hours you spend, days on end, working with us even when

we sometimes refuse to work with you. We thank you for your perseverance

and your patience and your unwavering devotion.

We thank you for your stubbornness and your virtue, your criticism and

your desire to see us succeed. We thank you for your knowledge and your

passion for music, for without it we could never create such harmony.

We thank you for your love and your guiding hand.

Finally, and most sincerely, we thank you for your help in enabling our

instruments to sing beautifully.

With you, this amazing band program that has stood for ten years could not

have been. So for that, we thank you.

The Golden Hawks Band Student Leadership To Marcus, You have worked hard all year and

we are very proud of you!

TOURNAMENT FORMAT: CAPTAIN’S CHOICE Captain’s Choice is a very popular format for golf fund raising events because it does not require each golfer to play alone. This

format is fun for all ages and all skills levels; even those who don’t play a lot of golf. In a scramble, each player tees off on each

hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and all players play their second shots from that spot. The best of the second shots is

determined, then all play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. One mulligan per player can be purchased

for $5. This allows the purchasing player to re-hit one shot of their choice anywhere on the golf course. The mulligan WILL NOT be

allowed on any of the hole-in-one prize holes as per rules and regulations of Subaru.

Scramble Second Annual GHB

CONTESTS AND PRIZES! The First and Second Place teams will each be awarded with a GHB Scramble plaque, as well as gift certificates from Dick’s

Sporting Goods.

Hole-in-One Prizes:

Hole #4: 3-Year Lease of a 2016 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Hole #8: Vacation for 4 at Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa in Lajitas, Texas

Hole #12: $500 Nike Shopping Spree

Hole #18: Krank Golf® Formula 6 Driver

Almost every hole will be designated for the Closest to the Hole contest with prizes awarded.

Putting Contest: A LONG putt on the practice putting green as players move from Hole 9 to Hole 10. Purchase one attempt for

$5 or two attempts for $10. The closest 3 putts will each win a prize of their choice donated by our sponsors. If two people putt

the ball in the hole, the first person to do so will choose their prize first.

The 50/50 Raffle has been accumulating money for several months and has exceeded $300! Raffle tickets can be

purchased throughout the tournament: $5 per ticket or $10 for 3 tickets. The raffle will stay open until the Tenth Anniversary

Alumni Reunion and Celebration on Tuesday, May 24th, where the winner’s name will be randomly drawn during the event and

the final amount will be split 50/50 between the winner and the Band Program. The winner does not have to be present to win.

I’m Don Schwenneker, aka Big Weather, and I’m the morning meteorologist for ABC 11

Eyewitness News. I’ve been lucky enough to be honored with two Associated Press Awards

for Best Weathercast, the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American

Meteorological Society, and a Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association.

Music, and the arts, has always played a big role in my life. At 13, my father left our family.

I then had to make a choice. There were two paths I could head down. Music helped me

choose the right path. Music, and the arts, is the reason I am who I am today.

It is unbelievably important to support kids in pursuit of music in their lives. You never know

how it might help them choose a different path than the one they are facing. It’s why I’m here

today and why I support the HSHS GHB Scramble. Thank you for your support of this great

event, and these great kids!
