Due to the safety guidelines for the pandemic, I was not able to have as many supporters attend as I would have liked, though I was thankful to have my family present. Representative Rogers with his wife, Mandy, and children Leah, Ben, and Meg. Since taking office, the House has convened five times to discuss business. We elected Speaker of the House, Dade Phelan (R- Beaumont), passed HR 3 general house keeping items, and HR 4 the House Rules. While the House has been adjourned, I have had the privilege to spend time back in the district. This opportunity has allowed me to meet with elected officials, interest groups, organizations, and community leaders from across the district. One of my priorities has been to address the availability of COVID- 19 vaccines within the district. Rural Texas has been overlooked during the vaccine rollout process, and my team and I have been hard at work to remedy this issue. Myself along with Representative Drew Darby (R-San Angelo) and Representative Stan Lambert (R- Abilene) have sent a letter to Governor Abbott, Texas Department of State Health Commissioner John Hellerstedt, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd addressing the healthcare challenges in rural areas. Click here to read the full letter. On Thursday, February 4th, committee assignments were announced. I am proud to have been selected to serve on the House Committee on Transportation and House Committee on Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services. The House Committee on Transportation hears matters pertaining to the Texas highway system, regulation and control of commercial and passenger vehicles, and issues related to railroads, airports, and water transportation. The committee oversees Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), and Texas Transportation Commission. The House Committee on Pensions, Investments, and Financial Services (PIFS) hears matters pertaining to the state banking system, credit unions, privacy and identity theft, retirement systems, the regulation of securities and investments, and issues surrounding several departments and agencies, such as the Teacher Retirement System. I look forward to working hard for House District 60 and the great state of Texas. I am class of '78 at Texas A&M University and I sit at desk 78 on the House floor. Gig'em!
