Thursday 4th February

Talk: ‘2012 – A Summer to Remember and Olympic and Paralympic Legacy’ Simon Williams MBE

The Weymouth Sailing Olympics: preparations and legacy from the head of

operations.

Thursday 3rd March

Talk: ‘Tales of the Deep’ Professor Denys Brunsden

Spectacular sea-floor surveys (geomorphology) with incredible imagery,

including Weymouth Bay.

Thursday 7th April

Talk: ‘Jane Austen and Lyme Regis’ Natalie Manifold

AGM: Following the talk at approximately 3:45pm.

Thursday 16th June Coach Trip to Dunster Castle

The coach will depart Holmbush car park at 08-50am to Bishops Lydeard where

we will take the vintage steam train to Dunster Village. There we have the

option of visiting the Castle and Water Mill (National Trust – charge applies –

N.T. members free) or exploring the village. The coach will depart Dunster

Village for the return journey.

Coach & train £20-00

Thursday 6th October

Talk: ‘World Heritage Sites: the Best of the Best or just a nice Badge?’

Dr. Sam Rose

An exploration of their history, background and people’s perceptions.

Thursday 3rd November

Talk: ‘In search of the Black Iris – a Journey through Jordan Stephen and Nina Locke.

A fascinating mix of natural history, including the Black Iris, the national flower,

and the ancient human settlements of Petra, the Roman town of Jerash and the

mosaics of Madaba.

All talks will be held in the Woodmead Hall at 2.30pm.

We will be holding book sales and other fund–raising events during

the year. These will be advertised locally and on our web-site.
