All-Ohio State Fair Band 2015
Dear Band Director,
We are pleased to announce that the Ohio State Fair will again sponsor the All-Ohio State Fair Band, a tradition that spans 90 years. Enclosed you will find a fact sheet containing complete information for the 2015 two-week schedule. After familiarizing yourself with the dates and details, we request you place this notice on your band bulletin board. The All-Ohio State Fair Band provides an excellent opportunity for your advanced players to work with a staff of 14 top-notch music specialists. In addition to regular rehearsals, there are “mini clinics” to improve playing techniques and sectional rehearsals to improve ensemble techniques. A typical repertoire totals 50 select ions of assorted band literature. Your student will return to school a better musician – ready to contribute to the school program. There are several scholarship awards given annually to members of the Band and limited financial aid is available. In addition to performing for nearly 1 million fairgoers, the Band will create friendships that last a lifetime, gain new musical skills and expand their range of talent. Our goal is to have each of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties represented in the 2015 All-Ohio State Fair Band – making it a true all-Ohio organization. With your help and cooperation it can happen! Kindly encourage participation by distributing the enclosed yellow applications to your most deserving band members. New applicants are to use the yellow forms. Veteran applicants will submit pink forms (or blue forms for graduating seniors) which have been mailed directly to them. If more forms are needed please contact me or download the application from www.aosfb.com. All applicants must have the approval and recommendation of his/her school band director whose required signature will verify approval and that the facts stated on the front of the application are correct. The director’s rating, and any additional comments offered on the reverse side will be most helpful. Only students currently in grades 9 through 11 may apply (grade 12 if they are All-Ohio State Fair Band veterans). Please return completed applications as soon as possible. It is not necessary to send all forms under the same cover. Note: The postmark deadline is March 31, 2015. Thank you for your support,

The All-Ohio State Fair Band has been a featured attraction at the annual Ohio State Fair
since 1925. Millions of fairgoers have experienced the thrill of hearing the band conclude each
concert with an exciting performance of John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
Students apply for membership in the All-Ohio State Fair Band through their local school
district band director. Applications are mailed each February to every public and private
secondary school in Ohio. The signed recommendation of the applicant’s band director must
appear on all applications. Membership is determined by student proficiency, instrumentation
needs of the band, and geographical considerations. For 2015, a goal has been set to have a
diverse band with at least one member from each of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties. With your
help, we can do it. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2015.
Participation in the All-Ohio State Fair Band is a unique musical and social experience.
The 14-day experience offers valuable opportunity to perform more than 50 pieces of varied
band literature. Band members work with an experienced staff of 14 music specialists from
throughout the state. During their stay at the Ohio State Fair, students work with peers who
share similar interests. These relationships often develop into friendships that last a lifetime.
