Friends and Family Unity Jubilee Choir Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God has laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, or play, I found the peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch, Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee God wanted me now; He set me free. We, the family of the late Shirley B. Smith, wish to express our deepest appreciation and sincere thanks for the many acts of love and kindness shown during our time of bereavement. May God bless you all. Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free

I’m following the path God has laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard his call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, or play,

I found the peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joys.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch,

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and peace to thee

God wanted me now; He set me free.

We, the family of the late Shirley B. Smith, wish to express our

deepest appreciation and sincere thanks for the many acts of

love and kindness shown during our time of bereavement.

May God bless you all.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,

I have kept the faith:

II Timothy 4: 7 (KJV)

Shirley B. Smith was born November 27, 1950 in

Hancock County, Georgia to the late Celand Bryant and

Doss (Sallie Mae) Grier, Jr. She departed this earthly life

on January 15, 2018.

“Shelly,” as she was affectionately known, attended the

public schools of Hancock County, Georgia and Richland

County, South Carolina. Shelly was employed with

Richland County School District One until she

retired. After her retirement, she began working for the

Colonial Life Arena for many years as an Event

Coordinator. She would always say, “Don’t worry about

me, I will be alright.”

Shirley accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early

age and joined Union Baptist Church in Mayfield,

Georgia. She later joined Unity Missionary Baptist

Church in Hopkins, South Carolina, where she was a

member of the Missionary Society and president of the

Jubilee Choir for several years. She was the South

Carolina president of the Grier Family Reunion.

Shirley’s favorite pastime was traveling with family. She

also loved taking pictures and keeping everyone updated

on Facebook with family information. She loved life and

didn’t let anything or anyone stop her from achieving

what she wanted to do.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four

brothers: Gary and Jesse Bryant and Larry and Barry

Grier, and her daughter, Monica Grier.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Smith; five

sons: Bernard (Sasha) Smith, James (Mary) Smith,

Rodney Bell, Quinton Grooms, and Prince Haynes-Smith;

six daughters: Ada Hennagan, Felicia (Carl) Pringle, Kali

Smith, Shakaria Smith, Alicia Grooms, and Courtney

Grooms; one brother, Dennis (Sherri) Brown; three

sisters: Lucille Grier, Yvonne Ross, and JoAnne Bryant-

Bell; twenty-nine grandchildren: Utopia Shivers, Carlton
