PARTNER BIRTHDAYS

Bring back the 1920’s! Most of the 77 guests at our

90th Charter Dinner had taken the trouble to dress up

to suit the theme of The Great Gatsby, as this was the

era during which our Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth

was chartered, and everyone looked spectacular.

It was both motivating and humbling listening to

Sister Ethel Normoyle of the Missionvale Care

centre, our guest speaker. Sister Ethel thanked Rotary

and Rotarians for all we have done for people in need

in all communities.

8 Vocational Service Awards were given to worthy recipients.

For the Sake of Honour Awards were given to people who have made a difference in

the community in a way not involved in their vocation:

Deon Engelke - who took up the challenge of raising funds for our Club as well as rais-

ing the awareness of Rotary in our community by participating in the Ironman challenge.

Dorothea Moors - who has impacted on the lives of many young business people whom

she mentors, and for the bursaries she has awarded to young artists for NMMU.

Peter Allanson & Brian Bailey of The Lion Roars Foundation - who partner with local

schools and orphanages on selected community initiatives and conservation issues.

Rogi Goldman of the Ebenezer Centre, who has established 2 private schools for the community, and has created 81 full time jobs and 250 food gardens in Missionvale.

Meritorious Service Awards were given to people who have used their vocation to

make a difference in the community: Dr Geoff Govender of FamHealth Medipark assisted the Hope Foundation in training

952 caregivers, and created a Youth Leadership Program & a computer lab with NMMU.

Lance Del Monte - for the work he has done with the GMSA foundation in providing

social affordable housing in various areas of Port Elizabeth.

Romano Satanassi, of the Family Mission, provides relief work, youth and adult coun-

selling, food and support, as well as simple sight tests in the deprived areas of the city.

Susan Pretorius, the supervisor at the Dept of Social Development works tirelessly

donating her time, expertise, and information to the community.

CONGRATULATIONS to you all!
