A Glimpse into Student Life
How many times are we to forgive one another? The
answer is seventy times seven! Forgiveness is one of
those things that we can all struggle with. How do we
forgive when we have been deeply hurt or offended?
How do we forgive if we are still feeling angry?
Forgiveness is an act of our will. We forgive by choice
and when we do that, it gives God the freedom then to
work in our hearts. In chapel, we talked about
forgiveness and how we all make mistakes. Our mistakes
can hurt people and we need to learn to own them and
ask for forgiveness. Trying to understand why people
offend us or why we have offended them is another good
exercise in walking in forgiveness. People always have a
reason why they do what they do. If we understand why
something was done, perhaps it will be easier to forgive.
Jesus taught us how to forgive - he gave his life for us.

We will continue to learn about
God and His character. We have
worked very hard on our
posters about who God is and
will finish them this week. This
project has challenged us to
illustrate “God Is” statements
with Bible stories and instances
from our life to consolidate our
learning.
Inquiry
"You have knit me together in my
mother's womb." We continue
studying the 5 senses, the ways
God gave us to explore the world,
with the senses of taste, smell,
and hearing.
Grade 1 & Grade 2
News from Ms. Russell
In Bible this week students will hear stories of Jesus
performing miracles. Students will learn that Jesus'
miracles showed his authority from God, his power
over nature, and his love for people.
In our creation studies unit, "The Earth Declares," we
will be focusing our attention on soil this week.
Students will learn the four main components of soul:
minerals, organic substances, water and air. As well,
students will learn about how God brings life from
death through decomposition. They will learn that
God is a detailed designer who created several things
that break down materials, they are called
decomposers.
.
News from Mrs. Botting
This week the calendar turns over to June! Please
make sure your child is done the reading of four book
bundles for the month. We are starting a new math
unit on 2D geometry and patterning. And keep in
mind the dates for Primary Field Day (the morning of
Wednesday, June 7) and our class trip to Presqu'isle
(June 21.)
Memory Verse Corinthians 13:4-7 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It
does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It
does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is
not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices
with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
The grade 2 students made obstacle courses
for their lego men.
They had lots of fun!
Grade 3 & Grade 4
Math: We are moving into money just in time for our bake sale. We will be learning about adding and
subtracting money and making change.
Phys. Ed.: We are going to our SG Track & Field
competition on Tuesday. After that we will be using frisbees
and start playing Ultimate Frisbee.
News from Mrs. Mackay:
I hope you got a chance to see and read the final copy of the Writing the Lives of the Elderly projects. They came
home on Thursday. The students were a wonderful blessing to the elderly at Westgate Lodge last Thursday; they
shared their projects, visited, sang "10 000 Reasons" and bid their friends good-bye. There were a few tears. If
you and your family would like to continue contact with your child's elderly friend, contact Shelly Hills at
Westgate Lodge and she would be happy to help set up visiting times!
We are well into our class novel study, "They Called Us Loyalists" which ties in so well with our current Creation
Studies unit, "Our Historical Communities". We are studying about pioneer life and we are seeing that early
settlers had to practice Habit 6: Synergize just to survive! They also relied on God and the community. We will be
sharing our own family histories this week and creating a Coat of Arms for our family, based on our histories and
family values. I am planning to have a pioneer morning on Thursday, June 8. On that day, we will dress like
pioneers (ideas will come home soon!) and eat like pioneers and have school like pioneer kids. Should be fun!
Our field trip to Lang Pioneer Village is Thursday, June 15. A letter is coming home today on BRIGHT yellow
paper! Check it out and please send back the bottom portion if you are planning to attend the trip or can drive.
The entrance fee for students and parents who drive will be covered by the student fund. Parents who attend but
do not drive will pay a $5 entrance fee. We hope many of you can come as it's always an excellent field trip!
THIS week our class is hosting a bake sale with the proceeds going to support the opening of the Grace Inn
Shelter for homeless people in downtown Belleville. The building that has been secured needs much renovation
so our class wanted to be a part of the fundraising. Please discuss with your child what they could bake and
bring. Thanks for your support. The Grade 3/4 class will be running this and this will give them practical
experience with making change with money. DATE CHANGE! The bake sale will be on FRIDAY, JUNE 2!! Thanks
for your support:)
Music: Gr. 3/4 musicians are playing
rhythm bowling, Silly Socks and
boomwackers alongside recorder to
practice for recorder Olympic medals.
Bible: his week we will be finishing our Bible unit and we
will be reviewing what we have learned. We will have our Bible
memory test on Wednesday.
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what
can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a
double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. “You have asked
a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am
taken from you, it will be yours – otherwise, it will not.”
2 Kings 2:9-10
French: The verb quiz on
“Avoir” was returned on Friday.
Some students will be doing a
retest on Thursday, June 1st. We
have completed most of the menus
for the French café that we plan to
host on June 13th. We will be
asking for contributions of
sandwich ingredients, desserts, and
drinks. It will be a fundraiser.
Music: Gr. 5/6 Music We are
very thankful to Pinnacle Music for
lending to us bass and acoustic
guitars plus a full drum kit to help
expose our students to Praise Band
instrument playing. Also special
thanks to Jordan Hall, Alex Jeffrey,
Deb Morgante and Jane VanderWilp
for giving so generously of their
time and talent to allow for this
opportunity.
A Note from Mrs. Visser
Don’t forget to collect sponsors for the Spirit Run, which is
happening this coming Saturday! I wonder who will be kissing a
pig?
We are looking forward to our Medieval Times class trip next
Tuesday, June 6th. Please be at the school at 7:45 am so that we
can be on the road by 8 am.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, May 30th) is the SG Track and Field day at
the Trenton High School track (Note the location change for this
year). We will be leaving BCS at 8:30 am, by bus.
Grade 5 & 6
Literature: We are reading
“Picture in the Bedroom” - an
excerpt from C.S. Lewis’ book
“Voyage of the Dawn Treader”.
This book is an awesome
example of how the fantasy
genre can be used to portray
biblical truths.
Math: We be finishing up our
Geometry unit by examining 3D
shapes and their properties. We
will also create patterns using
transformations. There will be
a quiz on Friday.
Writing: We are writing
fantasy stories. The draft is
due this week. I will be meeting
with students to discuss their
progress. I am seeing some
vibrant imaginations on display
in student writing, and good
application of writing skills, like
good beginnings and vivid
vocabulary.
Bible: p. 649, p. 650 and p.
651 will be covered this week.
This includes the story of the
stoning of Stephen.
Word Work: We are finishing up
the vocabulary assignments from
last week. The Hero’s Quest
vocabulary is due tomorrow. No
spelling test this week.
Art: The fantasy book covers
should be completed this week. Be
sure to check the rubric and
include a back cover summary of
your story.
Science: We continue by
studying the digestive system
that gives us our energy. Pages
181 to 183.
Grade 7 & 8
Math: Algebra concepts will
be taught today and the final
comprehension test is complete
by half the class. I will finish
marking this individually for
each learner by Friday. This
test will be put in their
Leadership Binder especially for
grad eight as they go into grade
nine in September.
Science: The Healthy Living
Series unit on human relationships
continues on Thursday.
Word Work: Students should
only have 2 out of the 4 lists left
for this school year. Turn the
sentences in on Google
Classroom.
Writing: We will not have
class this week due to the trip to
Fair Glenn. When students
return, we will continue to
explore writing News Articles.
French: Tasks 1-3 have been posted on Google Classroom for our unit, “A
Votre Santé” about food, exercise and healthy living choices. We are aiming
to finish these by June 2nd. Study the verbs vouloir, pouvoir, and devoir
(present tense). You will be quizzed on these next week. The final
presentation of the “Plan D’Action" should be on June 7th.
Geography: We are working
on our last project about
building a sustainable town
around mining or forestry.
Reading: Canadian Author
Reading Response assignments are
posted on Google Classroom. They
are due this Friday, June 2nd. I will
provide class time, but some of the
work will need to be done as
homework. Remember to keep on top
of assignment due dates and finish
the year strong!
