Friday, September 11, 2015 Dear Parents and Friends It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Term 3! This past week has been another busy one, with our Protective Behaviours focus kicking off in classrooms, our 1 st Annual Spelling Bee competition completed, Andrew Chinn workshops and concert and Cybersafety Talks with Sgt Nigel Dalton. On Monday, students in Years 4 6 attended safety talks with Sgt Nigel Dalton, with excellent feedback from students on the information contained in these presentations being very relevant to the issues faced by children today. This was backed up in the parent presentation on Tuesday evening, with over 30 parents attending the session. There were a number of excellent handouts made available to parents on the night. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of these, there are extras available in the office. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday saw the completion of our 1 st Annual St Joseph’s Spelling Bee. We had over 30 students participate and the competition got very exciting, with over 20 Rounds completed before we finally crowned our Spelling Bee Champion. The final results were: 1 st Place Jesse Eggmolesse (Year 5) 2 nd Place Taylor Uriarte (Year 6) 3 rd Place Anna Zhang (Year 4) 4 th Place Jade Haddow (Year 6 Thank you to Mrs Davies, Miss Haber, Mrs Wardrop and Miss Ballinger-Oches who were the Spelling Bee judges. Special thanks also to Mrs Cook from St Patrick’s in Bundaberg who shared this Spelling Bee format with us. Congratulations to all students who participated it was a wonderful event for all students involved. Today all students participated in workshops with musician Andrew Chinn. Andrew is a frequent visitor to our school, and the students always really appreciate the inclusive format of his workshops and the style of music he presents. The concert this afternoon was a great experience for all of the children and we thank Andrew for including us on his tour of our region. Next week our Year 6 students will travel to Melbourne for Year 6 Camp. We hope the students have a wonderful camp experience and look forward to sharing the adventure with our school community when we return. I will be attending camp with the Year 6 teachers, during my absence Mrs Mallet will be Acting Principal. Bianca Hodges Principal

NETBALL Congratulations to all our netball teams. You played well all season with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Both our 13C Topaz and 13D Diamonds won the Grand Final on Saturday and were Premiers 2015. Well done. Congratulations also to our 10 and under netball team who played the curtain raiser to the Premier League game on the weekend. What a wonderful experience!

COMMONWEALTH BANK SCHOOL BANKING UPDATE – PLEASE READ Following the decision last month to recall the Cosmic Light Beam Torch due to a potential safety issue, a decision has been made to also withdraw the upcoming Lunar Light Band reward from the School Banking Rewards Program. To avoid disappointment there is a new reward item available for redemption in Term 4 while stocks last. Students can now test their skills with a game of frisbee with the new Galaxy Glider! Once students have collected 10 tokens, they can simply include a note, along with their 10 tokens in their deposit wallet on banking day to advise that they would like to redeem their tokens for the Galaxy Glider reward item. Don’t forget the Outer Space Savers Money Box is also available in Term 4.
