Newland plays the charac-ter, Feldzieg, in the musical.

“I am Janet Van De Graaff’s producer,” Newland said. “She is in my show called the ‘Fol-lies,’ and I am trying to stop her wedding from happening because she is planning on leaving my show — and if she leaves my show, then I will get killed by gangsters.”

The gangsters, played by Maddie Henrickson and Kelsey Westerman, are disguised as pastry chefs throughout the musical. They reveal to Feldzieg that their boss has invested in the “Follies” and wants to make sure the show is a financial success.

The gangsters tell Feldzieg that he must sabotage the wed-ding and make sure Janet stays in show business.

“Everything is just ridicu-lous in this play,” Henrickson said. “Miner really gives us the ability to play with our parts as much as we want. She is just so creative in that matter. She says, ‘You do what you want and we will tell you if it’s bad.’ It’s nice to have that freedom.”

Miner said she does this be-cause she wants her students to embrace their characters.

“We really encourage them to push themselves,” she said. “I would much rather have them trying new things. I’m not a director that will tell everyone on stage what to do all the time. That drives me crazy. So I want them to bring their talents and their ideas out to make it more of a collabora-tion.”

All the hard work has made for a hilarious show, Wester-man said.

“This play is just so fun,” she said. “There are a couple of songs that are just so funny. I have seen them 100 times and I still laugh.”

But the entertainment doesn’t stop during intermis-sion.

“The audience can go out to the intermission sales where they can grab some treats and when they come back in and there will be a funny intermis-sion piece. I don’t want to give too much away — but it is going to be fun.”

Miner said she is really impressed with how the play has evolved since they started practicing in February.

“From the beginning, we knew that this show was going to be as creative as we wanted to make it,” she said. “As direc-tors and choreographers, we are so excited at how hard the kids have worked. We have gone way farther with the show than we initially thought it would go — and that is

because the kids are working so hard.”

The production runs from April 16-18 and April 20 at 7 p.m at the YHS/Summit Ac-tivities Center Theatre located at1801 Summit St.

SPRINGFIELD — “In 25 Words or … Death” is a light-hearted mystery-comedy by the comedy duo Newt Mitzman and William Dalzell that will be presented by Bon Homme High School Drama Personnel at the Spring-field Gym on April 16, 17, and 19.

Featuring a cast of 10, the 3-act play is set in Pelican Point Lodge, off of the New England coast. Everyone in the family will enjoy the cat and mouse-typed nonsense in the nautical-themed rustic lodge.

Hidden diamonds, thunderous storms, fainting spells, dead bodies and hidden pas-sageways coupled with eccentric characters from various walks of life make for a recipe sure to entice and please. When New York City ad man Kelton Garwood (played by junior, Tyler Kaul), hosts five contestants from an award winning ad idea entry at Pelican Point Lodge, he has no idea of the unexpected twists they will all face. Expect-ing a weekend retreat in simpatico with the cite at which the first Pilgrims feasted with Native Americans, the six winners contem-plate a much different outcome when strange things begin to happen. Lodge hostess Olive Bunker-Hill (played by senior Bitzy Mitzel), enjoys regaling the guests with tales of ships lost as sea and peg-leg captain-ghosts. Playing the five guests are: Abby Bartlett

as Mrs. Van Pelt; Kelsey Hovorka as Miss Pruce; Clay Wittmeier as JJ Hooth; Carly Sternhagen as Halley Hampton; and Allison Carda as Barbara Driscoll. Unexpected house guests are found out. They include: Dustin Johnson as Nicholas; Danielle Johnson as Magda; and Jacob Olson as Carl. Wittmeier and Dustin Johnson are making their BHHS stage debuts in this production that is under the direction of Linda Haar and Jessica Jensen. Consulting on technical aspects is long-time BHHS assistant drama director, Bernard Kastein; and sound technician — guru, Billy Ray Kaul.

Backstage crew members include: Noah Schenkel (recorded sound); Rachel Pechous (life sound); Jada Jones and Kade Hellmann (lights); Paige Schuurmans and Kaycee Wal-ter (student directors and stage managers). Hair and make-up crew members include: Pechous, Sam Burgi, Liz Garness, Jaclyn Rothschadl and Maddie Schwartz.

Performances are at the Springfield Gym at the elementary school in Springfield. The house will open a half-hour prior to the curtain. Show time is 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 April, and Friday, April 17; and 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 19. Season tickets will be honored, and other seats may be paid for at the door.
