Be still and know that I am God.

Be still and know that I am. Be still and know that I. Be still and know that.

Be still and know . Be still and .

Be still. Be.

Beginning on September 7th, the start time for the worship service at First Presbyterian will be changing to 10:00 am! This is in response to your survey results and CLN and Worship committees are excited about the opportunities this change will bring to Christian Education programming! Here are our plans for the fall, please understand that CLN will be planning and discussing these opportunities both before September 7th and during the fall start-up, so changes may be made as needed! Christian Education classes for all ages will begin on September 14th! Adult classes will be offered at 9:00 am on Sundays. This will be in addition to the small groups that currently meet during the week (Monday Feast at 10 am, Nurture group on Tuesdays at 10:00 am, new opportunities on Wednesday evenings and Barefoot Church on Saturdays at 5:00 pm). We hope to offer book groups and other opportunities throughout the year as well, both on Sundays and on other days of the week. Our hope is that everyone will participate in at least one small group or class! Children in preschool through 5th grade will begin their programming at 10:45 am – during the offertory and before the last hymn of the worship service. We will be hiring non-members, perhaps college students with an interest in mu-sic, to begin their Sunday school time with music and singing. Our hope is that the children would bring some of the songs they learn into the worship service to share with the congregation throughout the year. The class would then continue with lessons as before, but there would be an addition of intergenerational programming monthly – involving youth and adults in the classes as participants and mentors. We will end the class time by having the children join us in the Fellowship Hall for a song or reading together at 11:45 am. Youth members, grades 6 – 12, will be meeting at various times during the week to do service projects, devotionals, and have classes. Some of these times will be Sunday mornings – with the adult class when appropriate, with the chil-dren when appropriate, and on their own as well, either before or after the worship service. Fellowship time will follow the worship service at 11:15 am. Please feel free to contact any of the CLN Elders, Dan Mundt, Jr., Hope Naples, Chris Miller, or Cindy Clauson, Worship Elder with any questions.

Worship is at 10:00am starting Sept. 7th.

COMMUNION SERVING Every year we take past and present deacons and elders and create a list for serving commun-ion. Before we do the schedule for 2015, we need to update the list. We have recently changed to only serving juice, because it is easier to hold just one chalice. Only current elders supply the elements. If you would prefer to be taken off the schedule, please let Brenda or Cindy know. Thank you.

PEACEMAKING OFFERING

Throughout September the annual Peacemaking Offering will be received. The Peacemaking Offer-ing works locally and around the world to trans-forming cultures of violence into communities of peace. These gifts will be dedicated on October 5th, World Communion Sunday. The collection will be disbursed as follows: 30% to the local jail ministry, 30% to Jonah 40% to the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s peacemaking ministries.

Representative from these local organizations will be visiting us to explain their work. Please take the time to read the informative bulletin inserts this month. Prayerfully consider giving generously. Make sure to write Peacemaking Offering on the memo line of your checks. Envelopes can be found in the pews. Thank you

BAZAAR NOTES The following dates and times have been set for the upcoming bazaar: Saturday, October (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and Sunday, October 12 (11:30 a.m.-3: p.m.). In addition to the bazaar, a holiday bou-tique with a sweet and candy shop will be held November 15 (9 a.m.-3 p.m.). Please note, payment is due when items are picked up. Bazaar Workshops Every Friday With only six weeks remaining before the bazaar, help is needed to complete planned projects, and craft workshops are scheduled for every Friday at 10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. All ages and abilities are welcome. If you can cut, glue, stuff or trace, your skills are needed.

Something New for Monday Mornings (Formerly Monday Feast)

With the start of the new school year, we will begin a journey through some of the richest stories in the bible. Texts were selected that point well to the proclamation of what God is doing. The stories tell of hope and disappointment, suffering and redemp-tion. In all these varied contexts, we find God deal-ing with the complexities of human life. Through November every week we will read to-gether a different story from the Older Testament and consider what God is doing and where we are in the story. Please consider joining us in the Fireside room - Mondays at 10 o’clock. 9/7 Flood & Promise

HELP HELP HELP Presbyterian Women of our church is taking on the task of updating the bathrooms in our church. Our time frame is the next 6 or 7 weeks. There are many small jobs that are needed to do this - take down shelves; spackle; caulk, hang mirrors, disassemble and later re-assemble the stalls in the upper bathrooms after they have been painted commercially; repair the dry wall in the upper bathrooms; hang two ceiling light fixtures and of course, paint. The rooms are small so even the job of painting is not a huge commitment of time. Perhaps some of you who are retired, but still very able to, could help. All offers for any and all jobs are welcome. Please phone Jodie Pierce (715) 831-6107 ASAP and tell her of your willingness to participate in this effort. Many thanks.

GERANIUMS WANTED Thinking ahead. We would like to enhance the glassed in East and South entrances with potted geraniums - to be placed there before the first frost - they thrive in the light. We are looking for perhaps 6 plants in varying shades of pink, intense to light. Do you have one or two that are particularly beautiful and reasonably compact that you would enjoy sharing with all who enter our doors. It is a most welcome sight. Please call Dorothy Rossow (715) 832-7809.

SYNOD SCHOOL

Synod School provides a refreshing, rejuvenating getaway for those who attend. During the week John & I were to leave, we heard from his daughter, Malia, that one of her girls was having “trouble with friends.” Many phone calls occurred that week and when John & I left Sunday morning about 10:00, we had Jada, age 12, & Ella, age 9, in the backseat and the trunk full of their and our belongings for the week. The girls had attended a Bible camp before but were open to trying Synod School. They slept on the floor of our dorm room in sleeping bags on top of an air mattress that deflated every night. They settled well into their groups. They greatly enjoyed the experience and made many new friends. When we were headed to the car to leave for Eau Claire, Jada said she wished they could stay longer with the same peo-ple who were there. Doesn’t that speak well of the experience! For me, I cherished evening worship. The music was fantastic, creativity abounded, and I was acutely aware of the Spirit in the room. My favorite class was yoga. It relaxed me so much my blood pressure was 87/58 when I returned home. John & I plan to attend next year and will continue to take Jada & Ella for as long as they want to go along. It is a great family experience. Of 617 people attending, 186 were children and youth. Sharon Stedman This summer at Synod School I was fortunate to attend a class titled “Education in Pakistan: Presbyte-rian Mission at Work lead by Veeda Javaid, Executive Director of PEB, Presbyterian Education Board. In the mid-1800’s schools were started in Pakistan by Presbyterian missionaries. They are now operated by Presbyterian Pakistani Christians but owned by PCUSA. The purpose of the schools has remained the same since the beginning: ”to educate the poorest of the poor in Pakistan, irrespective of class, religion, or origin”. Muslim and Christian children are educated together, studying in community and learning the values of tolerance, respect and love of one another. Today there are 14 schools located in the Punjab province, with over 5,000 students. Some are exclusively for girls’ or boys’. Some are day schools and others have boarding facilities. While the primary focus of PEB is on the education of girls, both boys and girls are educated in most PEB schools, through grade 5. Pakistani law at that time requires boys and girls to receive separate educations. I have much more to share with you. There are many opportu-nities for us as a church to help in the funding of the operation of the schools, renovation and construc-tion projects and scholarships. As mission elder, I will be talking to you in the months to come. Sue Wagner
