The Maine Infantry Foundation & Joshua Chamberlain
1
The Maine Infantry Foundation remembers Maine's Infantry contributions and teaches future generations the importance of the role of Maine's Infantrymen. By reaching out to the community and more specifically Maine's children, the Maine Infantry Foundation will teach the lessons of history through the experiences, artifacts and writings of Maine's Infantrymen.
The second purpose is to recognize and reward those Infantrymen and their families who are currently serving during the current conflict. While all branches contribute to the effort, it is the Infantry that takes and holds ground. This mission is hard and essential to the ultimate success of any campaign. This level of commitment takes its toll in time away from families and friends. Many of Maine's Infantrymen have made the ultimate sacrifice. The Maine Infantry Foundation will recognize this sacrifice and reward those families for their strength, perseverance and support.
Please join us in supporting our troops!

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, one of Brewer’s most famous citizens, volunteered during the American Civil War to join the Union Army. Although he had no formal education in military strategies, Joshua Chamberlain became a highly respected and decorated Union officer, reaching the rank of brigadier general (and brevet major general). For his gallantry at the Battle of Gettysburg, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, the United States of America’s highest military honor. He was given the honor of commanding the Union troops at the surrender ceremony for the infantry of Robert E. Lee's Army at Appomattox, Virginia. After the war, he entered politics and served four one-year terms of office as the 32nd Governor of Maine.
The Joshua L. Chamberlain Golf Classic recognizes and honors Chamberlain’s military service and his commitment to his country. We would also like to honor the memory of those soldiers who have gone before us, and continue to honor and assist those serving in past and current conflicts with courage and resolve.
