  • The First Step in and Emergency Situation: AWARENESS Some General Facts about CPR: Sudden cardiac arrest is a leading cause of death in adults. CPR doubles the chance of a persons survival from sudden cardiac arrest. Recognize the signs and symptoms of cardiac events/sudden death emergencies (i.e. heart attack, drowning, electrocution, and asphyxiation). 4

  • The Second Step in and Emergency Situation: 911 Secure the scene. Locate nearest phone. Provide EMS with current address. Provide phone number for EMS to contact. 5
