Kia ora,

Welcome back to term 2 and, almost,

the start of winter. I know we are all

hoping that this term we will be able

to gain and sustain the rhythms that

have been so interrupted by the

lockdowns of last year and term one.

To some extent, as with any sustained messaging, the requests

good hand hygiene are becoming background noise. I would ask

that when on campus everyone tries to maintain the urgency

around these practices that we all felt a few months ago.

the teaching unions with the government as part of the

package almost two years ago. This means that there will be no

And finally, I would like to regretfully inform you that Fatemeh

Abdollahi has left Michael Park School.

Fatemeh worked at Michael Park for 16 years. During this time,

she had a variety of roles as a lower and middle school

classroom teacher, Maths Lead Teacher, and Within School COL

Lead Teacher for Mathematics. In addition, Fatemeh spent

many years as part of the College of Teachers.

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

Teacher Parent Student Conferences

• Tuesday 1 June we will have TPS Conferences starting at

8:30 a.m. and finishing at 4:00 p.m. Please note, there will be

no classes running for High School students on this day; High

School students will stay home unless coming in for Teacher

Parent Student Conferences. Lower School timetabled classes

will still run, so Class 1-7 students will come to school as

normal.

• Due to family circumstances, we appreciate that some

families may not be able to attend during the working day.

Accordingly, we will hold follow-up conferences between 3:30

p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday 2 June

These conferences are held so that subject teachers can meet

with you and your child to discuss their progress and next steps

in their learning. We intend the home-school conversations to

be reciprocal ones where we all share information to move

forward.

You can also see your child’s kaitiaki if you wish. In my capacity

as Deputy Principal, I am in the booking system too. Melanie

Bray our Careers advisor is here to see Class 11 and 12 students

between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m without appointments; she will be in

the Careers office.

BIODYNAMIC PREPARATION 500 STIR

Monday is the world wide Heal the Earth day and to celebrate

at MPS we will be applying Biodynamic preparation 500 to our

grounds.

We will be stirring the mix from 1pm in the gardens behind the

Eurythmy Room for anyone to who wants to join us.

For more info go to http://sprayandpray500.tsukitohoshi.com/.

Best wishes from Margi and the Outdoor classroom team.

TIMBER NEEDED

MPS is looking for timber to complete our lovely mudbrick tool

shed being built by class 4 next to the Outdoor classroom. We

need timber for the roof. We are after 55m of 6x2. We can only

use lengths longer than 2m, which are totally free of nails.

Ideally we are after those extra new bits sitting under your

housed for years waiting for the right time to be used. If you

have any please contact me on 022 3547 902.

Thanks

TE AO MĀORI

Tēnā koutou ngā whānau, me te hāpori o Te Kura o Waiatarua,

(Greetings to whānau and community of MPS)

Te Māruaroa o Takurua (Winter Solstice) - Friday 18th June

Kāhore he roā, not long now, only 6 more weeks and we get to

celebrate with our community. This year is even more special;

along with our annual blessing we are unveiling the artwork

that Whaea Beverly has completed on our native manu

(birds).

When I first came to teach full-time at MPS. I asked students

and staff what they wanted regarding Te Ao Māori in the

school. Some students wanted birds or animals for classes

instead of calling them Class 1-12.

When I went to the college of teachers to propose this idea I

found out that this mahi was already underway. John Lawry

and Whaea Jade had worked together to match manu with the

impulses and characteristics of each class. Then Whaea

Beverly kindly offered to do the artwork for us.

The artwork is now completed and there are two wooden

plaques for each class, one with the artwork on it and the

other with a whakatauki/proverb.

Ngā mihi nui mō tēnei mahi tino hirahira Whaea Beverly

Ngā rā mō tō rātaka (dates for diary):

Friday 18th June

• 6am gathering for a 6.10am start potluck breakfast

• 10am whole school karakia and waiata for manu

Ngā mihi nui
