Message from the Leadership Team
As this is the final day of the school year, it seems only right and proper that we allow our young leaders of
Year 6 2020 the opportunity to write the closing leadership message of the year.
We are very proud of all our children and wish you all a happy summer. The staff and Governors at
Deanesfield would like to wish those that are leaving us today for the last time and not returning all our
best wishes for every future success. Take care, and remember to:
Dream, Believe, Achieve... and make a difference!
Year 6 Young Leaders Message – Classes of 2020
Wednesday 15th July was a momentous day for all of us in Year 6! The whole world has been gripped by the
Coronavirus, which has changed the way we go to school, the way we play and interact with our friends and how
we live our lives. Our teachers, leaders, all the staff and school governors at Deanesfield Primary School, did not
let these challenges take away our fun. Everyone at school was totally committed to giving us the best farewell
ever and we will remember this day forever!
We ate lunch together and talked about our Lockdown stories. It felt amazing to see everyone and actually talk to
one another. We realised what a fantastic team we are, across all the three classes and how great it felt to be
together – perhaps something we took for granted in the past. We played games and races on the field and took
selfies. Somehow the grass smelt sweeter and the air fresher-you could almost taste the sense of excitement.

Later on, we watched our Leavers Assembly in the vast hall at Queensmead and we felt so grown up crossing the
threshold into a bigger school. Our new journey was almost beginning. Ms O’Sullivan told us ‘Let No One Steal
Your Dreams’ and our school leaders read us this moving poem to give us courage for our exciting journey ahead.
Our teachers reminisced about all the happy and funny memories they have of us all and a real highlight were the
pictures from our younger years and our rendition of ‘When I Grow Up’.
At the end of the assembly, we
all clapped for our parents – to
thank them for all their hard
work in supporting us during
Lockdown. We were reminded
of how challenging these times
were not only for us but for our
families, who have been
supporting us over the last few
months with our learning at
home. It made us realise what a
big family we have become, and
that with Deanesfield by our
side, we are never alone.
Ms O’Sullivan reminded us that our school doors would always be open to us if we needed help or if we wanted to
share any worries, as well as sharing all the great things that will be happening in our futures. It felt warm and fuzzy
to know everyone at Deanesfield would still be there for us, if ever we needed it!
We didn’t think our celebration could get any better and we were beginning to feel a little sad at having to say
goodbye. However, at the end of the Junior gate stood the most gigantic balloon arch we have ever seen. It was
bursting with colours of the rainbow-a real symbol of the NHS and how they have helped us and been true heroes
over the last few months. A line of friendly, familiar and supportive smiling faces cheered us, blew party blowers
and shook sparkly pompoms at us. Bubbles magically flew in the air. We walked on a vivid red carpet and rose petal
confetti greeted us along the path. Uplifting and cool music was drowned out with all the cheers and claps from all
our teachers, school staff and parents. It will be a sight and feeling of sheer joy, that we will never forget! Never
before has there been a Year 6 Leavers Guard of Honour so magnificent – we felt so very special.
So now it’s time for us to say goodbye and we are both scared and excited about secondary school. Deanesfield has
done an amazing job in giving us confidence in ourselves, helping us form lasting friendships as well as filling us
with so much knowledge and great experiences so we have happy and bright futures ahead of us. We cannot thank
our school enough-so from the bottom of our hearts:
Thank You To Everyone at Deanesfield School – You ROCK!!!
Our Leavers assembly is now available on our Your Tube Channel, and you can find pictures of the
leavers event and more on our School website by clicking here.

SUMMER HARVEST
Each year, the children in different year groups plant all sorts of vegetables. Harvesting them is great fun and gives children an opportunity to see what they have grown and to take pride in their efforts.
On Tuesday, the children helped Mr Bowman harvest their potatoes… we found 38!
Oliver: It was really fun getting our hands dirty finding the potatoes!
Filomena: The potatoes were all different shapes!

Think U Know - Final Online Safety Packs
Children love to socialise and will want to stay in touch with their friends as they get older. The final online
activity pack explores how they can stay safe while connecting with others on social media apps and platforms:
• 4-5s
• 5-7s
• 8-10s
• 11-13s
A new video guide and accompanying article helps parents and carers to understand
the risks of using social media, what they need to consider when deciding if their
child is ready to use it and how they can make social media safer for their child.
Upcoming Parent Governor Vacancies
So that you are aware, we will have a couple of Parent Governor vacancies coming up at our School in the
