8 FRIDAY FEBRUARY 2 2018 WESTERN MORNING NEWS WMN-E01-S4 DOG-FRIENDLY BUSINESS Luxury self-catering operation Salad Days, in Dunster, Somerset, took gold. “As dog owners ourselves, we were fed up with having to accept second-rate accommodation just because we wanted to bring our best friends with us, when we knew they were better behaved than most people,” say owners Brett Bates and Susan Juggins. “When businesses say they are ‘dog friendly’ what they often mean is they tolerate dogs. So at Salad Days we don’t just accept dogs, we genuinely welcome them in a way befitting your best friend.” That includes a welcome basket for the visitor and their dog, a bucket and towel for tackling muddy paws, homemade treats, a ball and throw stick, water and food bowls, biodegradable poop bags and holders, and a torch for night-time walks. There are extendable leads to allow a more freedom around the site, throws should the pet want to sleep on the sofa, holiday tags and local maps. Silver awards were won by Bulleigh Barton Manor at Ipplepen in South Devon and The Salty Monk, Sidford, near Sidmouth. Two businesses in Cornwall – Mullion Cove Hotel on the Lizard and Old Lanwarnick Cottages, Duloe, near Liskeard – won bronze LARGE ATTRACTION The Royal Albert Memoriam Museum and Art Gallery in Exeter and Tintagel Castle in Cornwall were both awarded bronze. VISITOR INFORMATION SERVICE Silver awards were won by Kingsbridge Information Centre in South Devon and Visit Truro in Cornwall. Both Bude Tourist Information Centre on the north Cornwall coast and Plymouth Information centre were presented with bronzes. ACCESS AND INCLUSIVITY Mylor Sailing School, near Falmouth, won silver and there bronze awards for the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Exeter, and The Granary, Larkbeare Grange, a luxury self-catering business in East Devon. ACTIVE AND SPORTING EXPERIENCE A silver award was won by Skern Lodge, which has a wide range of outdoor activities, training and events for all ages and abilities at a residential centre in Appledore in North Devon. Lanhydrock, the National Trust property near Bodmin, Newquay Activity Centre, and Scilly Seal Snorkelling, Isles of Scilly, all won bronze. ARTISTIC, CULTURAL AND LEARNING Rick Stein’s Cookery School, Padstow, North Cornwall, took a silver award, and a bronze went to the British Tattoo Art Revealed exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
