DOG-FRIENDLY BUSINESS
Luxury self-cateringoperation Salad Days, inDunster, Somerset, took gold.
“As dog owners ourselves,we were fed up with having toaccept second-rateaccommodation just becausewe wanted to bring our bestfriends with us, when weknew they were betterbehaved than most people,”say owners Brett Bates andSusan Juggins.
“When businesses say theyare ‘dog friendly’ what theyoften mean is they toleratedogs. So at Salad Days we don’tjust accept dogs, we genuinelywelcome them in a waybefitting your best friend.”
That includes a welcomebasket for the visitor and theirdog, a bucket and towel fortackling muddy paws,homemade treats, a ball andthrow stick, water and foodbowls, biodegradable poopbags and holders, and a torchfor night-time walks. Thereare extendable leads to allow amore freedom around the site,throws should the pet want tosleep on the sofa, holiday tagsand local maps.
Silver awards were won byBulleigh Barton Manor atIpplepen in South Devon andThe Salty Monk, Sidford, nearSidmouth. Two businesses inCornwall – Mullion CoveHotel on the Lizard and OldLanwarnick Cottages, Duloe,near Liskeard – won bronze

A silver award was won bySkern Lodge, which has awide range of outdooractivities, training and eventsfor all ages and abilities at aresidential centre inAppledore in North Devon.
Lanhydrock, the NationalTrust property near Bodmin,Newquay Activity Centre, andScilly Seal Snorkelling, Isles ofScilly, all won bronze.

Rick Stein’s Cookery School,Padstow, North Cornwall,took a silver award, and abronze went to the British
Tattoo Art Revealedexhibition at the NationalMaritime Museum inFa l m o u t h .
