Page 1 of 5 Friday Fast Facts July 15, 2016 Volume 4 Issue 14 City Clerk: During the period of June 10, 2016 through June 24, 2016, the City Clerk and the Assistant City Clerk assisted twelve (12) candidates with qualifying for the 2016 City Council Elections. The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. A Primary Election is held when more than two candidates qualify for a particular seat. If no candidate receives the majority of the votes cast (50 percent plus one) then a runoff election will be held between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes on November 8, 2016. If only two candidates qualify for a particular seat, then the General/Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The 2016 City Council Election Candidates include: Seat Two: Sarah Stoeckel, and Shawn Williams Seat Three: Aldon Bookhardt, Daniel Diesel, Don Dewayne Human, and Ralph “Joe” Urich Seat Four/Mayor: Walt Johnson, Robert Lee Jordan, and Patrick Pearce Seat Five: Robert “Stan” Johnston, Jo Lynn Nelson, and Al Shastri The City Clerk and her assistant will work closely with the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Office and assist the candidates during the remainder of the election process. For questions, please all City Clerk’s office at 321- 567-3686. On June 14, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Imperial Estates Elementary School for their Summer Camp as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Station 13’s crew consisted of Lieutenant Jeremy House, Driver/Operator Matt Bowman and Firefighter Dana Hersey. The book reviewed was “Sparky the Fire Dog”. The children also viewed the fire truck and sprayed the fire hose. On June 20, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Imperial Estates Elementary School for their Summer Camp as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Station 13’s crew consisted of Lieutenant Jeff Harris, Driver/Operator Scott Einkopf and Firefighter Stephen Hartselle. The book reviewed was “Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim”.

The Titusville Police Department is gearing up for the new Rails to Trails expansion by proactively implementing Officer Bike Patrol. The police department has acquired new Bicycle Patrol equipment utilizing specialized grant monies to provide a comprehensive community oriented policing effort for

bike trail patrons and throughout the city. It is the Titusville Police Department’s goal to maintain a safe and well-patrolled environment for all patrons of the Rails to Trails expansion through our city. With the expectation of an influx of weekend bikers and local community members enjoying this biking destination, Titusville Police will be increasing face to face patrolling via Officers on Bike Patrol. Officers are also doing bike patrol through various neighborhoods in the community.

Neighborhood Services- the department opened its Waiting List for the Housing Rehab Program after being closed since October 2015. Applications are being accepted during the month July 2016. Since July 1st, 17 citizens have applied and were been placed on the List.

On June 28, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Imperial Estates as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Station 13’s rescue crew consisted of Firefighter Tim Hammond and Firefighter Jason Lengefeld. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore

assisted in the event. The book reviewed was “Say No and Go: Stranger Safety”. The students were able to tour the rescue.

On July 12, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Jack and Jill Preschool as part of the Heroes Reading Program. Station 13’s rescue crew consisted of Acting Lieutenant Bobby Crocker, Acting Driver/Operator Billy Wiegert and Firefighter Patrick

King. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore assisted in the event. The book reviewed was “Say No and Go: Stranger Safety”.

On July 8, 2016, Titusville Fire & Emergency Services participated in the Downtown Friday Nite Live street party. The main event consisted of the Titusville Fire & Emergency Services versus the Titusville Police Department pie-eating contest. Titusville Fire & Emergency Services Team consisted of the Team Captain Driver Operator Ben Lees, Interim EMS Chief John Hustoles, Firefighter

Jay Mendiola and Firefighter Will Martin. The Titusville Fire & Emergency Services Team won the competition and is proud to hold the title of champion. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore also attended the event providing Fire Safety information, Files of Life and Slip and Falls information.

Neighborhood Services- on July 12th the department celebrated the completion of the housing rebuild project located at 2306 Anna Drive. The home was rebuilt through the City’s grant funded Housing Replacement Program after being condemned due to structural integrity and mold issues in 2015. The project resulted in a decent, safe, and sanitary home for a family of seven (grandparents and five grandchildren). The department would like to thank Smith Development who was the contractor, as well as Lowes, Home Depot, Babcock Furniture,

North Brevard Charities Sharing Center, and numerous City employees and citizens of Titusville for their contributions and donations to the family.

On Monday, July 11th, Titusville Police Detective Sara Macskassy visited the Women’s Center to teach the attendees of Camp GAIA (Girls, Adolescence, Independence & Achievement) about social media and some of the dangers that exist on today’s world wide web.

On Friday, July 8th, several members the police department took on members of the fire department in the 3rd annual Hoses vs Handcuffs Pie Eating Contest. After an intense relay race devouring Village Inn pies, the fire department barely escaped with a victory over the police

department. The winner received a large gift basket that was then auctioned off and the proceeds raised were donated to the Dallas Fallen Officers Fund. Special thanks to all participating co

Titusville Police Department received a special visit from on Saturday July 10th. Bienca and Shaher Atra and their children, Jessenia (birthday girl) and Junior (6 years old) went on a tour of the police department as part of Jessenia’s 4th birthday celebration. Jessenia wants to be a Police Officer and wanted to meet police officers and see a real police car for her birthday. Sergeant’s Johnson and Wright along with Officer Torres happily made the birthday girls wishes come true!!

Finance Department: The Fiscal Year 2017 Proposed Budget has been published and is located on the City’s Website.

The next step in the budget approval process will be the adoption of a tentative millage rate by the end of July. City Council will conduct a budget workshop on August 16, 2016. During this workshop, staff will provide Council with a comprehensive review of the operating and capital budgets for the upcoming fiscal year followed by two public hearings in September prior to adopting a final millage rate and approval the final Fiscal Year 2017 budget.
