WEDNESDAYNational School Breakfast Week is swimming along. Fruit is great for breakfast and what better fruit to eat when you Dive into a Healthy Breakfast than juicy citrus like oranges and grapefruit. You can even eat the state fruit of Texas for breakfast when you eat the Texas red grapefruit. Texas citrus grows during the warm Texas winters in the Rio Grande Valley and it’s in season now. In Texas there’s always something good growing for your healthy school breakfast.

THURSDAYIt’s National School Breakfast Week and after Diving into a Healthy Breakfast all week we are getting smarter about healthy meals. Eating breakfast even helps you solve math problems faster. If you have six bags of onions and there are three onions in each bag, how many onions do you have? If you ate breakfast you would be one of the first to know that you have 18 onions. You may not think of onion as a breakfast food, but if you put salsa on a breakfast taco, you are eating onions, tomatoes and peppers for breakfast. All those vegetables grow in Texas.

FRIDAY Whole grains make a great spring board if you want to Dive into a Healthy Breakfast. A healthy breakfast can start with cereal, toast, waffles or tortillas when they are made with healthy whole grains. The oat in oatmeal is also a whole grain. Eating whole grains is good for you. Grains are important sources of many vitamins and minerals and you will score a perfect 10 when you dive into breakfast with healthy grains. Texas farmers get great scores for growing wheat. They grow enough wheat each year to make 9 billion loaves of whole wheat bread. School breakfast week is over, but now you know you need to eat a healthy breakfast every day.
