PRINCIPAL’S THOUGHTS
Education Week Welcome to Education Week 2019 (see program enclosed). It is our pleasure to showcase the learning of our students throughout the week and especially at our Education Week Open Day which will be held on Tuesday from 8.45am. All family and friends of Drummoyne are invited to join us. Under the theme ‘Every student, every voice’, Drummoyne Public School will showcase how we are equipping students with the skills to step up and speak out and lead the world. We would like to especially invite our grandfriends to be our guests on Open Day. The program and approximate times are included in the newsletter and we look forward to welcoming you to the school. Sandwiches and drinks will be available for visitors to purchase at the school canteen (see canteen news)
New Playground - P&C Funded Our students are enjoying the new ‘custom-made’ playground equipment in the primary quad (see photos). This followed funding from the 2018 P&C Spring Fete. Funds received on Fete day this year will again be allocated to new equipment and synthetic grass in the Infant's playground (see photos and plans in the school foyer). Please get on board with the parent community and actively support the P&C and 2019 Spring Fete.
Update on fire in the kiln room The clean up of the area around the kiln room and back of the hall has begun. The damage to the hall is more than initially thought with damage to the hall ceiling, insulation and electrical wiring. Even so, the hall is structurally sound and will be back in use soon. We are relocating Gowrie for three weeks to the library, large

and small demountables. Our Education Week activities will go ahead as planned with variations to venues. Media reports of a fire in a classroom at Drummoyne PS are not correct.
Stage 1 Performance tickets Tickets for our Stage 1 Performance ‘Come Rain or Shine’ will go on sale on Monday 5 August at 9am. Two shows will be performed by our students on Tuesday 27 August, a Matinee performance at 1pm and an Evening performance at 6pm. Class KR thoroughly enjoyed performing their dance last week. They worked hard to remember their steps and wowed the audience! I hope you enjoy viewing the pictures and reading their written responses to the performance on display outside my office.
Some of the sentences written by KR children include: My favourite part was the We Will Rock You song. I loved dancing and dressing up. I liked dancing. I loved the jukebox. I loved seeing my mum. I loved when we were dressing. I enjoyed playing the guitar. I enjoyed dressing up. I enjoyed seeing my mum the best. I loved all the dancing. My favourite part was the costumes. I loved dancing to We Will Rock You. I loved walking up to the jukebox. I enjoyed Hippily Hop Man music.

DPS HAS GOT TALENT
Auditions started on Thursday this week and will continue next Wednesday and Thursday if needed, at lunchtime in the 3A classroom.
Up to 4 finalists from these auditions will be chosen by Miss Anderiesen and other teacher judges to perform at the school fete.
Please Note that students must bring a USB with their music if they are doing a song or dance. Music from a phone cannot be played. If a student does not have the music to accompany their act, they will have to perform without music. YouTube will not be accessed on the day of auditions due to time constraints.
If you are singing, please bring a Karaoke version of your song so we can hear your voice.
Students are welcome to bring props/costumes to change into for the auditions.

STAGE 2 CHOIR
The Stage 2 Choir have a wonderful opportunity to send 30 singers to perform in a combined choir at the Town Hall in September.
Students were asked to return a note committing to the rehearsals, performance and the participation fee last term. A second note detailing costs, ticketing information and media permissions was sent home yesterday.
Please note that the tickets go on sale Thursday 8th August at 9am.

Book Fair is here…
The Book Fair will be open for business from Tuesday 6th August (Education Week Open Day) until Thursday 8th August. The Book Fair will open before school at 8.45am and stay open afterschool until 3.45pm. Many students have already done some window shopping and gone home with “wish lists”!
Some items will be extremely popular and can be ordered if we run out. Please remember to bring your own bags if you are intending to purchase a few items. There will be Eftpos available during the Fair. If you would like your child to purchase from the Book Fair you
may either give them cash or complete the payment option on a wish list or leaflet. Every book purchased helps to raise money for our school library!

2020 Kindergarten Enrolments Applications are now limited for Kindergarten 2020. If your child turns 5 before July 31, 2020 they are eligible to start school next year. We would appreciate if our local area enrolments would finalise their applications as soon as possible. This will allow us to determine if we have any ‘out of area’ places available. Please let your friends and neighbours know.
Lost Property As part of the year 6 leadership program, two groups of students will be looking after lost property and returning items twice a week to students’ classrooms. They can only return a child’s hat, lunchbox, jumper etc. if it is clearly labelled with the child’s full name. All unnamed and unclaimed lost property will be cleared regularly.
Parent Online Payment (POP) Thank you to everyone who has been using the Parent Online Payment (POP) system for payments to the school. Parents are reminded that for excursions a permission note is still required for each child. Would you please complete and return a permission note including the POP receipt number to the school for any excursion.

GRANDPARENTS DAY/OPEN DAY LUNCHTIME PICNIC IN THE PLAYGROUND
On Tuesday 6 August, parents, grandparents and friends of Drummoyne students are invited to attend our Grandparents Day and Open Day. The school canteen will be offering two types of sandwiches for sale so they can enjoy a picnic lunch with the children.
The choices are:
Ham, cheese and egg
Chicken, lettuce and mayo Both come with a bottle of water for $5 No pre-ordering is required. The canteen staff will be selling the sandwiches from 10.30am outside the canteen.

Open Day/Grandfriend’s Day next Tuesday 6 August
Each year a lovely morning tea is organised for Open Day/Grandfriend's Day with sweet and savoury items provided by our parent community.
We’d value any contribution (even if it’s a packet of store bought biscuits).
If parents could bring a plate or packet of something we can offer at the morning tea it would be greatly appreciated. Cakes, slices, biscuits, savoury items or fruit platter donations would be wonderful. Please drop these off to the library steps from 9am onwards. Please remember to list ingredients and clearly label any plastic containers so that we can return them to you.
A few volunteers are also needed to set up the tea, coffee and snacks, if you’re able to help out please contact Tanveer at [email protected]
Entertainment Books
Each year we raise vital funds for our school and the children via selling Entertainment Books or Entertainment Mobile Membership (mobile apps).
There is a limited number of books available for pick up from the school office, however the digital (mobile app) version of the membership is highly recommended as it can be shared between several people. The cost of the book/ digital membership is $70 and the school receives 20% ($14).

Term 3 Dance Program
Dear Parents, As a mandatory part of the Creative Arts curriculum, this term all students will be participating in a whole school dance program organised by an experienced external provider, ‘Dancefever Multisport’. Dancefever Multisport have been teaching dance and physical education programs in primary schools since 1999 and are currently teaching in over 750 schools across NSW. Dancefever will provide two accredited dance staff who will teach the students Hip Hop, Jive, Tango, and contemporary and creative compositions. The program is structured for all ages and abilities and the students will not only learn dance routines and theory, but will also learn to interact and demonstrate appropriate social skills. Depending on your child’s class, the program will take place in the school hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays starting on Thursday 25 July 2019. Towards the end of term 3, the students will perform their newly learnt dance routines during a parent showcase. This date will be provided to parents through the school newsletter. Please complete the permission note below and return it to the school office with the payment of $45 by Friday 9 August. Funds are available to support families who are experiencing financial difficulties. Please contact the school if we can help. Dear Parents and Caregivers
As you know our Senior Choir has been rehearsing in preparation for their performance at the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 3 September. Tickets for the concert, named The Australis concert, went on sale on Tuesday from the Box Office of the Sydney Opera House. This is always a wonderful occasion and a special opportunity for your child to sing as part of a 700 member choir.
Our rehearsal day is fast approaching. Would you please note the details below and return the permission note by Friday 9.8.19
Rehearsal 1 When – Tuesday 13 August Venue – The Salvation Army Hall, Elizabeth Street Sydney. Times – To arrive by 9.30am, the bus will have to leave at 8.30am, singers to meet Mrs Russ at 8.20am in the North Playground. The rehearsal finishes at 1.00pm. Final Rehearsal and Evening Performance When – Tuesday 3 September Venue – The Sydney Opera House Times – 11.30am depart school and travel by bus to the Sydney Opera House. Bring – Recess, lunch and drink packed in a plastic bag that can be thrown away. Dinner Break – Please collect your child from the meeting place on the Opera House concourse opposite the Harbour Bridge at 4.15pm and return to the same place by 6.30pm. The Concert will start at 7.00pm. The Concert will finish at 9.30pm and your child will need to be signed for and collected from the meeting point after the Concert. CRICKET NSW GALA DAY - STAGE 2 Dear Parents/Caregivers, WHEN: Your child will be participating in the Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup run by Cricket NSW at Timbrell Park in Five Dock to be held on Wednesday, 14 August. Students will leave school at 8.45am – please note the early departure time and will return to school by approximately 2.45pm travelling by seat belted coach. COST: The cost of this day is $13.00 per student which covers the cost of the seat belted coach to the event. WHAT TO BRING: Students will need to bring morning tea, lunch, drinks, rain gear, something to sit on, sunscreen and hat. 2019 Narrabeen Recreation Camp – Year 4
Dear Parent/Caregiver, RATIONALE: The overnight excursion for Year 4 is organised to:
1. Develop the independence and resilience of students 2. Provide opportunities for the students to participate in outdoor activities 3. Support students to socialise in a friendly and supportive atmosphere 4. Prepare students for longer overnight excursions such as Year 5 Berry Camp
DATES: Thursday 12 September to Friday 13 September 2019 LOCATION: Narrabeen Sport and Recreation Centre COST: The cost including the activities program, the accommodation, food and coach transfers from and returning to the school, will be $245 per student. Please see payment advice attached. If there are difficulties with payment, please contact the Principal to make alternative arrangements as we would like all Year 4 children to attend. SUPERVISION: Drummoyne Public School staff will be accompanying the students. The Drummoyne staff, as well as the Sport and Recreation staff, will supervise students at all times. PERMISSION: Sport and Recreation request that you complete a Medical and Consent Form. This form is available online and is easy to complete (website attached below).
