Boys Among Men... Two-year-olds have performed with credit in this race, with Lyric Fantasy (Ire) (Tate Gallery) andKingsgate Native (Ire) (Mujadil) two whose precocityhas led connections to successfully exploit this weight-for-age allowance. Whether Michael Tabor, DerrickSmith and Susan Magnier=s Requinto (Ire) (Dansili {GB})is in that league remains to be seen, but he looks topossess more than his share of the speed of his G2 Queen Mary S. and G1 Phoenix S.-winning damDamson (Ire) (Entrepreneur {GB}). Her advantage overher peers waned at three, so the decision by DavidWachman to make hay this term could be a wise one.He enters on the back of wins in the July 9 ListedTipperary S. and G3 Molecomb S. at Goodwood July26. AHe=s fine and I=m not too worried about theground,@ Wachman told PA Sport. AHe=s won on aslower surface and seems to be pretty adaptable. Heobviously gets the weight from the older horses and2-year-olds have won this before, although it takes agood one to win it.@ Khalid Abdullah=s Bated Breath (GB)(Dansili {GB}) received the plaudit of being the besthorse Roger Charlton has trained after his latest secondto Dream Ahead (Diktat {GB}) in the G1 July Cup atNewmarket July 9 and he has always suggested hecould be a serious talent. His first black-type win inWindsor=s Listed Leisure S. over six furlongs May 23was followed by a fifth on ground which was tootesting in the G1 Golden Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot June18 before his July Cup career-best. Inxile (Ire) (Fayruz{GB}) was the winner of that contest, making it nineblack-type wins for his resume, including inLongchamp=s G3 Prix de Saint-Georges May 15.Representing the 3-year-olds are the fillies Margot Did(Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) and Wizz Kid (Ire)(Whipper). The former finally delivered on her juvenilepromise when registering an impressive win inSandown=s Listed Scurry S. June 11 and after addingthe Listed Land o=Burns S. at Ayr a week later was thirdthird in the July 2 G3 Sandown Sprint. Robert Collet isfresh from watching his stable star Immortal Verse (Ire)(Pivotal {GB}) take Monday=s G1 Prix Jacques le Maroisand Wizz Kid showed the raw material for a test likethis when besting Prohibit (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) inthe G2 Prix du Gros-Chene at Chantilly June 5.

The Girls in Blue... Few fillies are able to win Classics over a mile and amile and a half, but of the recent members of that sexto do so it is interesting to note that two wererepresentatives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AlMaktoum. Both his homebred Oh So Sharp (GB) andGerman acquisition Kazzia (Ger) (Zinaad {GB}) managed

to completethe G1 1000 Guineas-Epsom Oaksdouble, withthe formereven going onto add the StLeger tobecome aFillies= TripleCrowntitleholderback in 1985.Blue Buntingcouldarguably have

emulated that pair with better luck, as exaggeratedhold-up tactics off a moderate pace undid her chance inthe June 3 Epsom Classic. Salt was rubbed in thewound at the end of that race, with Dettori mistakingthe winning post and surrendering third place in theprocess. Bouncing back at The Curragh, the grey pulledthe iron out of the fire much as she had at Newmarketto swamp the likely winner Banimpire (Ire) (Holy RomanEmperor {Ire}) in the shade of the post and garner theOaks she had been favored for six weeks earlier. All theearly signs so far at this meeting point to themiddle-distance races being hard work and so BlueBunting=s stable companion Rumh (Ger) (Monsun {Ger})was not asked to set a breakneck pace early on, butDettori was still content to wait in rear as several pulledfor their heads in the pack. After the final turn, virtuallythe whole field was off the bridle with only Wonder ofWonders traveling kindly as she was committed bySeamus Heffernan. She soon started to labor on theground and by the quarter pole, both Vita Nova andTom Queally and the eventual winner had loomed withintent on either side. Staying on just the better on therun to the line as Wonder of Wonders backed out of thebout, Blue Bunting refused to buckle despite theintimidating presence of the year-older Vita Nova. Cont.p5

Yorkshire Oaks cont. Racing Manager Simon Crisford revealed the St Legeras a likely target afterwards. AI think her toughnessmatches her brilliance, because when the second cameto give her a hard time in the final quarter mile she wasvery resolute and very honest and was always holdingher,@ he said. AShe=s a fantastic filly, because she canperform on such a range of distances and ground--itwas fast at Newmarket when she won the Guineas, soft at The Curragh and sticky today--and a greatall-rounder and top-notch filly. She just does enoughand although I wouldn=t describe her as lazy she keepsa little bit up her sleeve for when the knock-out isneeded. I think for the rest of the season, we havesome great races to look forward to including the G1 StLeger [at Doncaster Sept.10] because a mile and sixshould really suit her. We=ll see how she is over thenext ten days, but that is a distinct possibility. There isevery good reason to go for the last Classic and SheikhMohammed wants to keep options open. He has won itwith a filly before in Oh So Sharp, so it wouldn=t beanything new but it=s nice to go to Town Moor withone like this. The Breeders= Cup race for fillies andmares and the Japanese race on Nov. 13 (G1 QueenElizabeth II Commemorative Cup, 2200 meters) comeinto the equation and so she could be busy right to theend of the year. Because she goes on all types ofground, it makes the decision as to where to go morecomplicated, but I think right now we=ve got to seewhether she will be our representative in the St Leger.Earlier in the year, we would have thought she wouldalmost definitely stay in training, but we=ll have to seehow she is at the end of the year before we decide onthat. It=s been a great team effort and all credit tothem.@ Sir Henry Cecil, who had saddled the one-two inthe G1 Juddmonte International 24 hours earlier, wasalmost celebrating a second Group 1 of the week withVita Nova and told PA Sport, AShe ran a fabulous race.I=m really pleased with her. I like winning, but you can=ttake anything away from her as there was a long wayback to the third. She=ll stay in training next year and Ilike spreading her races out. We might look at the G2 Pride S. at Ascot on Champions= Day [Oct. 15] overa mile and a half.@

LIKELY LAD Lilbourne Lad faces the age-old prospect of having topay for his precocity and give weight away all round intoday=s G2 Gimcrack S., having earned a penalty withhis success in the six-furlong G2 Railway S. at TheCurragh June 26. He has the three-poundpenalty for winning the Railway, which does not help, but you could set your watch by him as he never letsus down, and I am sure that he=ll be right there at thefinish again.@ B Fifty Two is one of the more exposedtypes here, but his experience could be useful with theground on the easy side. Overdriven to Undergo Tests After Missing Work... Repole Stable=s two-for-two GII Sanford S. winnerOverdriven (Tale of the Cat) will undergo tests aftertrainer Todd Pletcher cancelled a scheduled workyesterday morning. The bayset foot onto Saratoga=smain track slightly after therenovation break, poised tobreeze four furlongs, butPletcher did not like the wayOverdriven looked warmingup and instead opted to joghim 1 1/2 miles. AI am a littleuncomfortable with the waythe horse is moving on theracetrack,@ Pletcher said. AHeseems fine back at the barn and all the tests we=vedone seem negative. I=m just not happy with the wayhe=s moving, so I am going to [schedule] a nuclearscintigraphy just to be safe.@ Overdriven was alsoforced to miss a work Aug. 9 for similar reasons. Hewas diagnosed with a gluteal muscle pull, but was backin training several days later. He is being pointed for theGI Hopeful S. at Saratoga Sept. 5, but Pletcher saidthings would have to break right for the colt to makethat event.

ARalphcouldn't take any more time away from his Torontostring, and agreed it was time to leave >Bill= in the U.S.I'm sure you know that Kiaran trains some for Darley, and Rockport Harbor stands there, so it is a good fit.@Magers, a longtime owner and breeder who co-anchorsthe top-ranked newscast in Chicagoat ABC 7 News, added that BannerBill might have an excuse for hisSpecial run, which saw him make abold middle move before tiring in thestretch. AHe had a dry cough[Monday] morning, but his temp wasnormal and there was no discharge,so we hoped it was a slight allergyand ran him. But [jockey] Alex Solissays he coughed the whole way around. [Tuesday]morning he had a temp of 103, was producing mucous, and was pretty sick. His temp is back to normal[Wednesday] afternoon, so we'll be okay, although he'shad a tough four-race campaign and needs to put on alittle weight. We'll wait to see what Kiaran wants to donext.@ From his sire=s first crop, Banner Bill has wonthree of four starts and earned $228,315. -LM

FHBPA WOULD FIGHT GULFSTREAM LASIXBAN Kent Stirling, the executive director of the FloridaHorsemen=s Benevolent and Protective Association, saidyesterday the announcement that Gulfstream Park hadbacked off on its plan to prohibit the administration ofLasix to 2-year-olds of 2011 starting at its 2011-2012meet came as no surprise. The Lasix policy in theSunshine State is mandated by the state legislature, and not the racetracks. AI don=t think we were toostunned,@ Stirling remarked. AIt=s a state statute. Theonly way to change it is to do it through legislation, andI don=t see us letting that happen.@ The FHBPA posted astatement on its website Thursday entitled, AAre WeWinning The Lasix War?@ (Click here to read thestatement). Reiterating the stance taken by the majorityof horsemen on the subject of Lasix, Stirling said, A It=spretty simple. KING OF THE HALL By Christina Bossinakis At last week=s Hall of Fame induction ceremony heldat the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion in Saratoga Springs, champion Open Mind joined an elite group of racingstalwarts whose plaques adorn the central gallery walls.

She=s in very good company.Among the racing luminaries inattendance was Hall of Famer D.Wayne Lukas, who guided thechestnut through a pair ofdivisional titles, six Grade Ivictories and a New York TripleTiara sweep. Lukas, who accepted the honoron behalf of the Eugene Klein-owned filly, was inducted in1999. His career record speaksvolumes as to his dominance inthe training ranks: four EclipseAwards as leading trainer

(1985-87 and 1994); 18 Breeders= Cup victories; 13 Classic wins (won six straight Classic wins; won allthree Classics in 1996 with a different horse); 24Thoroughbred champions; and three Horse of the Yearwinners--Lady's Secret (1986), Criminal Type (1990)and Charismatic (1999). Additionally, Lukas passed fellow Hall of FamerCharlie Whittingham as the all-time leading moneywinner in 1988, and was the first trainer whose horsesearned more than $100 million (and later $200 million)in purse money. Although his admittance to the eliteclub was never in question, the timing of his Hall ofFame election was the subject of debate. Some felt heshould have been eligible in the early >90s. AThere was some controversy surrounding myinduction,@ offered Lukas. A[Horse racing historian] JimBolus was a fan of mine, and thought I should havegone in seven or eight years before I actually did. Hefelt I should be inducted under the [official] 25-yearrequirement. He actually produced documentation thatshowed I had already been training for 25 years, butthe committee didn't accept it.@ AI started out training at places like Park Jefferson[South Dakota] and in Lincoln, Nebraska, and [votingcommittee] hadn't counted those years. Before Jimdied, he fought for my induction but, bless his heart, henever did see it happen.@ Unfazed by the delay, Lukas admitted the honor waswell worth the wait. AIt wasn't a big deal; we waited out the 25 years andI was inducted the first year I was eligible,@ he said. AItdoesn't really matter when it happens, if it is 50 yearslater or in five years, you are humbled andtremendously honored to be there.@

His Fair Ladies... Open Mind, the latest of the Lukas pupils to enterracing=s hallowed Hall, becomes the fifth member of thefairer sex to earn the badge of honor for Lukas, thusearning him the distinction of being the only trainerwith five fillies to have received the gold plaque. Theladies who preceded Open Mind are Lady=s Secret(1992); Winning Colors (2000); Serena=s Song (2002)and *Azeri (2010) (*Previously trained by LauradeSeroux. Michael Paulson=s Azeri joined Team Lukasfor the 2004 season. She was already a Horse of theYear when she added wins in the GI Apple Blossom H.,GI Go for Wand H. and GI Spinster S. for Lukas). According to Lukas, the fillies that represented >TeamLukas= over the decades played an important role in theoperation=s success. AI think it is significant, and it says a lot about ourprogram,@ said Lukas. It says a lot about what we wereable to achieve through the >80s, >90s and in thisdecade, too. They were all special and all made animpact in where we went and what we accomplished. The clientele that came in behind them; they werecertainly influenced by those horses. After thesuccesses of Lady's Secret and Winning Colors, another group of owners came in. They were verysignificant to us.@ The first of Lukas= mavens to make it into the Hall ofFame was Lady=s Secret, who served to cement thehorseman=s status as the nation=s preeminent trainer. On a visit to Atlantic City Racecourse to run GISWEffervescing, Lukas observed an unimposing grey fillyfinish fourth in a $35,000 claimer on the grass. Hepurchased Great Lady M privately for $65,000 thatafternoon, and she went on to win several stakes whileunder Lukas= tutelage. The mare was retired to his farmin Oklahoma following the 1980 season, and was bredto Horse of the Year and future Hall of Famer,Secretariat. The foal resulting from the union was notwhat Lukas expected--at least not initially. Cont. p12

AWe get this little ratty, grey filly, and I was justdisappointed as hell,@ admitted Lukas. ABreeding a horselike Secretariat to Great Lady M--who was anexceptionally fast horse and a stakeswinner in her own right--we expectedmore.@ While having lunch one afternoon in1982, Klein agreed on a whim to buythree weanlings from Lukas. Includedamong them was Lady=s Secret andsubsequent MGSW Gene=s Lady. AI am sitting having lunch with GeneKlein and he says that he wants someweanlings in the front yard at his home inRancho Santa Fe,@ recounted Lukas. AHishouse was built on a rock, literally. It wasjust rock and avocado trees, becausethat's all that could grow there. I told himthat maybe he could put mountain goatsout there, but not babies. He asked me if Ihad any babies, and I said I had three ofthem. He asked how much they cost and Itold him that they were mine, so I wouldget them appraised for him. He said, >Thehell with that, appraise them right now.'So I said, >OK big guy, I'll take $200,000 apiece."Without hesitation he said, >Done. Go get >em.=@ Lukas continued, AWe were really concerned aboutLady's Secret, because Gene had $200,000 tied up inher, so I told Jeff [Lukas] that we really needed to dosomething to get him some money back. I thoughtGene's Lady would be OK, but I didn't really knowabout Lady's Secret.@ When all was said and done, however, there was noneed for concern. Through four seasons on the track,>The Iron Lady= went on to win 25of 45 starts for earnings of$3,021,425. Included among her15 victories at the graded levelwere the GI Whitney H. againstthe boys, GI Breeders= Cup Distaff, GI Beldame S. (2x), GI MasketteS. (2x), GI Shuvee H., GI SantaMargarita Invitational H. and the GI La Canada S.

Huge Talent in Small Packages... Another Lukas runner reputedfor meeting--and beating--the boyswas the Bob and Beverly Lewis-owned Serena=s Song. Thecompact daughter of Rahy won18 of 38 lifetime starts, including11 Grade I=s, before retiring with $3,283,388 inearnings. The $150,000 KEEJUL yearling ran againstthe boys on seven occasions; she took the 1995 GI Haskell Invitational S. and GII Jim Beam S.

She was also runner-up in the 1996 GI Whitney H.and 1994 GII Hollywood Juvenile Championship S. andfinished third in the 1996 GI Phillip Iselin H.

AI think that came a little bit from myQuarter Horse background,@ said Lukasregarding his propensity for running hisfillies against the boys. AI had all thosegood Quarter Horse fillies that beat allthe colts regularly. I won the Championof Champions with a filly. The AllAmerican [Futurity] field will have four orfive fillies in there. It=s not uncommon. The only difference is that they=re goingshort, so stamina isn=t a factor. WithThoroughbreds going a mile and aneighth in a race like the Whitney, staminais a factor.@ Also holding a special place in theoperation=s history is Open Mind. A foalof 1986, the diminutive filly wasbestowed with her unassuming namethanks to her modest physicalappearance and her young, and as ofthat time, unproven sire Deputy Minister. She was sent to Monmouth Park to takeadvantage of the New Jersey state-bred

races where the $150,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga salepurchase was under the guidance of Lukas assistantKiaran McLaughlin. AKiaran called me up on a couple of occasions andtold me that he thought she was pretty special,@recalled Lukas. AHe said that she had been trainingreally well, so I told him to run her in one of thosestakes against the boys there and see how she does.@ Lukas recalled the simple response he gave to

McLaughlin when he learnedof the chestnut=s impressivewin in the New JerseyBreeders' S. in only hersecond career start. AI told him, >Send her toBelmont,=@ he laughed. If there was ever any doubtas to her ability it disappearedduring her tenure on thetrack. The New Jersey-bred,who headed a 1-2-3 finish forthe trainer in the 1988 GI Breeders= Cup JuvenileFillies, concluded her juvenilecampaign with a win in the GI Demoiselle S., earning thechampionship in the process.

At three, she won eight of 11 starts, including the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Acorn S., GI Mother Goose S.and GI Alabama S. en route to the title as champion 3-year-old filly.

Amazon Among Boys... Standing in sharp contrast--in stature and inperceived potential--to Open Mind was a toweringdaughter of Caro (Ire), Winning Colors. AWinning Colors is just the opposite of Open Mind,@said Lukas. AWhere Open Mind had to earn her stripes,

but won us over and got good,Winning Colors was awesomefrom Day 1, from the first timeI laid eyes on her all the way tothe end of her career. She wassuch a physically imposingspecimen. She was a favoritein the barn from the beginning.@ Lukas recalled in great detailthe horse that would give himhis first Kentucky Derby score. AI remember the first time Isaw her, I was standing outfront of that four-foot wall atKeeneland and she was in thefar stall,@ recalled Lukas. AHereshe comes, and all I can see isher head, neck, withers andhip, and all I could think was,

>Wow, if this thing comes around the corner with allfour feet pointing in the right direction, this is reallysomething.= I just walked her around once and said,>Next.' [Consignor] Don Sucher asked if I liked her and Itold him she was OK. But, really my heart, waspounding 400 miles an hour.@ Lukas, famed for using a 1-10 scale when evaluatinghorses at public sale, admitted the giant roan rankedamong the elite of his top auction purchases. AShe was an eight; that=s really up there,@ headmitted. ASeven is a buy, eight you have to have, andnine you give up your first born and all yourpossessions.@ Dubbed >The Amazon= by the press, the filly won theGI Santa Anita Oaks before crushing the boys in the GI Santa Anita Derby. A week prior to the ARun for theRoses,@ owner Gene Klein and Lukas were offered $7 million, equaling the record price for a filly sold atpublic auction up until that time. After only mildconsideration from Klein, the decision was made toforge ahead to the Derby. AOf all the Kentucky Derby starters I've had, and I'vehad four of them, that was the most confident I everwas heading into the race,@ said Lukas. AI was reallyconfident. And we didn't make any bones about it, wesaid, >Look, we're going to the lead, if anybody wants togo with us, just get in there and see how we get along.=@ Making good on his claim, Lukas had jockey GaryStevens take Winning Colors to the front early in the10-furlong affair, and the duo made ever pole a winningone as the filly--the first to prevail since 1980 Derbywinner Genuine Risk and only the third in history--heldoff the ultra-talented colts Forty Niner and Risen Star atthe wire.

All the King=s Men... It could be said the fairer set was the flame thatfueled Team Lukas, however, it was the men who heldranks under Lukas that served as the kindle. Very fewThoroughbred trainers have been as closely identifiedwith the peoplewho have emergedfrom their camps ashas Lukas and hisformer assistants.Giving credit wherecredit is due, he isthe first to applaudhis former students=ability, disciplineand dedication, allof which lent to thestable=s success.Lukas, who insistshis greatest rolewas that of a teacher, acknowledged that he oftenruled his team with an iron fist. AThere was total discipline--I would tell them, >Wehave five minutes of democracy and then the Czartakes over," he said, laughing. Lukas added, AMy assistants have been excellentright down the line--Todd Pletcher, Kiaran McLaughlin,Dallas Stewart, Mark Hennig, Randy Bradshaw andMike Maker--we're talking about guys that could handleit. They were all great young guys. I chose a lot ofgood racehorses, but I think my legacy in life will bethat I chose a lot of very good people. And for everyTodd Pletcher, Kiaran McLaughlin, Dallas Stewart andMark Henning, there are a bunch of other guys, parkingcars or packing groceries somewhere in America, whodidn't make it. They just couldn't handle it.@ For those who did make it, Lukas added, AWhen theywent out on their own, they went with my blessing, every one of them. Every one of them took a majorclient, every one of them rode off with the horse theywere sitting on, with the saddle and bridle. We have agreat fraternity, we try and get together whenever wecan. Last year, we got together at Todd's house duringBelmont week, and we got to telling stories, includingthings that happened that I didn't know about, andhow they covered up for each other. I wish we hadrecorded that evening, because it was just great.@

Hall of Fame--D. Wayne Lukas, cont.

With at least one likely future Hall of Famer loomingamong the Lukas alums, the conditioner pointed to aformer assistant that, in his opinion, would have surely

been destined forthe great Hall, hadfate notintervened. AJeff Lukas isthe best trainerthat is not in theHall of Fame,@affirmed Lukas. The junior Lukassustained severehead injuries inDecember of1993 after thefiery-tempered

Tabasco Cat (Storm Cat) broke loose after a morningwork out on the Santa Anita backside, and knockeddown the then 36-year-old horseman. He was in acoma for a month and was never able to fulfill thepromise he demonstrated as an assistant to his father. AThat's not just fatherly pride talking,@ Lukas added.AIt might be in a lot of ways, but if you walk throughthe Saratoga backstretch, go barn to barn and askeveryone about Jeff, I bet you the opinion on himwould be unanimous. He was double tough.@ Maybe it=s not the way he would have scripted it, butthings appeared to come full circle for the programwhen Lukas= 1987 record of 92 stakes wins wasbroken by Pletcher (assistant from 1990-96) in 2006.Lukas had no regrets at seeing his former assistant takehis place in the record books. AI am so fond of those guys, if I ever get wealthy, Iwould put them in the will,@ joked Lukas. ABut since I=vegone so broke, I think Todd has to put me in his will.@ The horsemen had gone on to carve out successfulcareers in their own right returned to honor their formerboss at his Hall of Fame induction in 1999. AThey allowed me to choose who would head myinduction, and I really didn't know where to go withthat, so I suggested they ask one of my assistants,@recalled Lukas. AThey decided to do it together. Theycollectively decided that Mark Hennig would be thespokesperson and the entire group was on the stage, including Jeff.@ AWell, Mark recalled one particular occasion when Ihad gotten on him really hard after he had won twostakes at Monmouth Park. I called him and he said,>Boss, we got good, we really got good today.' And Isaid, >You hillbilly, are you that badly educated? I giveyou the best horses and the best clientele in Americaand you tell me, >We got good??' You should say, >Wedid well.' Race 1 - MSW, 2, f, 1 1/16mT Trainer Chad Brown, who's just as hot at the Spa this year as he was lastyear, debuted two juveniles going long on the turf here in 2010 for TYBStable. Both of those runners, More Than Real (More Than Ready) andSilver Medallion (Badge of Silver), made it to the winner's circle at firstasking before taking graded stakes for different conditioners. Brown unveilsBeautiful Affair (Rock Hard Ten) for TYB in this spot. The $27,000KEESEP yearling is by a very good turf sire out of SW and GSP juvenileBeau Blush (Rahy), who took both her career and turf debuts. Beau Blushis a half to GISW Marley Vale (Forty Niner), who produced MGSW andMGISP Indian Vale (A.P. Indy). Beautiful Affair faces several formidablefoes with experience, but she figures to be very well-meant and could fly

slightly under the radar. For more Saratoga analysis, visit the TDN Blog or

Ridden with confidence in sixth from theoutset, the Aga Khan-bred filly, who was obtained in aprivate arrangement last year, made smooth progresson the bridle in the long straight. Although jockey JamieSpencer appeared to have exaggerated his waitingtactics as Cracking Lass set sail for home approachingthe final eighth, his mount exhibited an impressive turnof foot when the button was pressed inside the closingpanel to secure a career high with an abundance inhand. AWhen fillies improve, sometimes there=s no limitto them as there have been some good ones down theyears who have gone through the grades--we had RedEvie who did the same sort of thing,@ said trainerMichael Bell.

AShe=s bred by The Aga Khan and a lot of his familiesimprove with age and time. I really liked this filly lastyear and was a bit disappointed because she didn=tdeliver. I=m thrilled as she=s suddenly clicked into gearand the way she did it today was sensational. I hadpencilled her in for the G1 Prix Vermeille [at LongchampSept. 11] when the calendar came out the other day,but now I think she=ll have to have an entry. What shedoes in between, we=ll need to give further thought toas there are more options for her. FAIRY BRIDGE S.-Listed result cont. In a race where the high-profile pair of Hooray (GB)(Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Lolly For Dolly (Ire) (Oratorio{Ire}) failed to feature, it was left to the upwardlymobile Alanza to stamp her presence on thisabove-average renewal. She had proven her stamina fora mile when beating Wild Wind (Ger) (Danehill Dancer{Ire}) to open her black-type account in the July 31Listed Platinum S. at Cork last time and raced underrestraint buried back in the pack throughout the earlystages. Swinging wide at the top of the straight, thebay delivered a sustained surge as her luckless archrivalWild Wind was caught up in traffic against the rail andoverhauled the long-time leader Claiomh Solais andAnam Allta in the final 100 yards. Last year=s G1Cheveley Park S. winner Hooray was sent off the 5-2favorite, but ruined any chance with a slow break whilethe returning June 15 G2 Windsor Forest S. heroineLolly For Dolly was tenderly handled when it was clearthat she was not going to be involved in the finish ofthis competitive affair.
