Friday 7 th December 2018 Our Christian Value for the term: Compassion no act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted’ (Aesop) Dear Parents, I hope many of you are able to attend the Christmas Lights Switch on event in the town this evening. Children and parents need to be at the Town Council Offices at 5.30pm to walk up to the Market House with Mrs May and Mrs Cartledge. Please remember that children are their parents’ responsibility during the procession and parents must be to hand during the singing so that staff can hand children back to parents afterwards. Thank you. The children in KS2 have been practising their songs for the SWR Carol Service to be held at St. Mary’s Church on Thursday evening at 6.30pm. They have really enjoyed being taught by the inspirational Mr Dillon from SWR and it would be lovely if as many of them as possible could come along to the Service. I hope parents will also enjoy the event – and support the school and the children. We look forward to seeing you there. Please make sure you have returned the slip to confirm your child’s attendance. Thank you. KS1 are very excited about putting on their performance of ‘Hey Ewe!’ to the school and parents next week. We look forward to welcoming parents to one of the performances next week. See below school diary for times. I have received a letter from a local resident asking me to mention parking at dropping off and picking up times. The vast majority of our parents show great consideration to neighbours and ensure all the children’s safety by parking safely near school however unfortunately there are a small minority of parents who are still parking across driveways and pavements around school. If you park your car on yellow zig zags or on the pavement you are putting children at risk because you are restricting the view of oncoming traffic, you are forcing people with small children to walk in the road and you are blocking emergency access to the school. Please take the time to park a little distance away from school and walk the rest of the way if you can’t find a safe place to park outside school. Thank you. Thank you very much to the Lowsley-Williams family of Chavenage House for the donation of our beautiful Christmas tree this year. Thank you also to Ben King of Kings Tree Care Services Ltd for the collection and delivery of this tree. Mrs J Woolley, Headteacher

Experience Christmas Key Stage One had a wonderful time at St. Mary's Church yesterday at Experience Christmas. They spent time at different stations where Church volunteers taught them about different parts of the Christmas story. The children enjoyed completing different activities at the stations, such as drawing a present for Baby Jesus, using characters to act out the journey and decorating fir cones for the advent wreath.

Welly Wednesdays Our amazing Welly Wednesdays are proving very popular with children across the whole school. They are having a lot of fun with the loose parts, making dens, playing creatively with each other. This week, the weather was pretty dire and I know they got a bit of a soaking. We had some understandable feedback from some parents. Deciding whether to cancel outdoor break and lunch is never an easy thing to do, as we have to consider the need for children to burn off some steam and get some fresh air, in order that they can learn well into the afternoon. To their credit, the vast majority of children embraced their

time outdoors on Wednesday, but we do appreciate the impact such weather can have. We will continue to get children outside as much as we can, but we will be mindful of extreme wet days as we move forward. Thank you for your support with this initiative. We believe it will make a hugely positive impact on the school in the long run. Mr Godfrey …………………………………..…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

EYFS/KS1/KS2 – Cinema Treat at the Good Shed As a Christmas treat, Tetbury Goods Shed Art Centre will be screening two films for the children of St Mary’s School. This will take place on Thursday 13th December. KS2 children will watch The Muppet Christmas Carol at 10am. EYFS and KS1 children will watch Arthur Christmas at 1pm (The children will be back by the end of the school day) To cover the costs of Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre showing these films we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £1 per child. Please can children bring this £1 in on the day of the trip. …………………………………..………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… KS2 Christmas Concert St Mary’s Church This year, children in KS2 have once again been invited to participate in the SWR Carol Service, which will take place on Thursday 13th December, at 6.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Tetbury. The children have been working hard with Mr Dillon, Head of Music at SWR, to learn songs for the service and they will sing alongside older students from SWR and pupils from Avening School. We appreciate that this is a busy time of year and an evening event, but we would like as many of our KS2 pupils to attend as possible, as this is a wonderful opportunity for our children to perform and come together as a community to begin our Christmas celebrations. This is a free event, open to family, friends and members of the community. No tickets are required. We look forward to sharing this festive evening with you.

Classlist

St Marys PTFA have a parent representative scheme. A parent volunteer liaises with the class teacher / TA to pass on information to all the parents in each class to ensure everyone is fully informed about activities within each class.

We have found that this is especially useful for parents that are unable to drop off and collect their children due to work commitments.

Please register for the parent rep app - www.classlist.com (available on the app store). Click ‘Join Here’ and search for ‘St Mary's CE VA Primary School, Tetbury’
