October 2012
Welcome to the annualGreen Door Art Trail
Win £100 worth of original art!Once again, Green Door is offering you the chance to win a £100 voucher tospend on any Green Door Art Trail artist of your choice…
Just pick up an entry form in the first studio you visit, fill in your details, then takethe form around with you to get it signed in each subsequent venue, and leavewith the last artist you visit. The draw will take place on Saturday 1st November2012 and the winner will be notified by email - just in time for Christmas!
Terms & Conditions can be found on the entry forms.
What a difference a year makes… Following our rebrand as ‘Green Door’, the region’s premier artists
collective has gone from strength to strength. Firstly, we found dedicated space for members to hold solo exhibitions;
not one, but two, local venues agreed to partner us – The Brewhouse atBurgundy’s on Kendal’s Lowther Street, and the Tea Room at Low SizerghBarn, just outside Kendal; my particular thanks to Mike Pennington at TheBrewhouse and Marjorie Park at Low Sizergh Barn for their faith in GreenDoor and their patronage of the arts in this region.
Then, after months of searching, our new landlords - the Kendal UnitarianChapel Trust - found us! Our new studio base in Kendal’s Market Placeopened in July and is now home to seven local artists, who are planning torun regular open studio events.
We’ve now developed a programme of exhibitions in both dedicatedgalleries - see opposite - plus our first annual Summer Exhibition opened atthe end of June at the Outlet Gallery in Kendal, and our ‘Jubilatum!’ selectedgroup show opens at Farfield Mill near Sedbergh on 17th November.
Membership numbers remain steady at around 100 members, basedthroughout Cumbria and working across all artforms. Why not join us?Whether you’re an established artist or just starting out on your creativejourney, you’d be welcome. The key for us is supporting each other along theway and providing opportunities to network, exhibit and get involved in thearts community. Visit www.greendoor.org.uk/join-us for details.
And if you’re not an artist, you can still become a supporter and receiveinformation about events involving our members. They’d be glad of yoursupport throughout the year, as well as during the art trail… Just email me on [email protected], and you can also now find us on Facebook:www.facebook.com/greendoorartists/ - and like us!
Funding is our biggest issue; we’re a self-managed, not-for-profit co-operative, committed to making contemporary art accessible to localresidents and visitors to the area - but members fees alone barely keep usafloat. If you can help in any way, we’d love to hear from you.
So finally, our annual art trail is back again, now in its 8th year. ThisOctober, over 40 Green Door artists are opening their studios and offeringyou the chance to take a peek at where they work, purchase original works of art, prints and cards, and meet fellow enthusiasts en route. Painters,sculptors, printmakers, ceramic artists, textile artists, jewellers andglassmakers - all will be showing their work and on hand to answer anyquestions you may have about technique, inspiration and process.
It’s always fun buying direct from the maker - and what better way toexplore this wonderful area than with this in mind; Green Door artists arebased in some of the most stunning locations, so do use this brochure to planyour visits and enjoy meeting some very talented folk along the way.
