VALUE OF THE MONTH Hope and Perseverance’ “Let Perseverance be your engine and Hope your fuel.” H. Jackson Brown Jr. Friday 2nd November Newsletter No. 8 Dear Grange Community This week we have brought our Black History month Grange project to a culmination and I look forward to our visiting steel pan band playing to us at home time. We have introduced a showcase slot for Parents and Carers to come and see children performing and presenting work that they have done. We hope that this slot will be well utilised over time. This slot is at 3pm by announcement from school and we hope that when invited you will make efforts to come and support and encourage your children. This whole week, different classes have been presenting their Black History month learning and in particular, Year 4 Parents and Carers were tremendous in turning up for the presentation which meant so much to our children. Yesterday Year 6 presented and I quote from one of our Yr 6 children, who told me: “I have loved Black History month. I enjoyed watching videos about the life-stories of these heroes and this learning has made me ambitious about my life…” She articu- lated her dreams about her future which involve working with and helping people with autism.. This type of learning fills me with hope and strength for our school and for the children at our school. Our vision is to help children build their futures through learning. We want them to be empowered to make good, positive choices and to use their learning to make the world a better place for themselves and for others. In this spirit, we celebrate and see Diversity as a strength. We want to learn from each other and move away from prejudice and fear and live with hope, tolerance and respect. At Grange this year, we have celebrated Harvest Festival and this has been a joyous experience of caring. Thank you to all the families who helped us with the food bank which has made a positive difference to others within our wider community. From Harvest Festival, we moved onto Black History month which for us at Grange, embodied the ideas of courage to stand up for the respect that every human being deserves, regardless of particulars such as race or culture. We aimed for this to be education about the way we should value and respect each other and in particular to look at the courage and sacrifices that it took people to change and move past slavery and racism and to appreciate the contributions to society and the world, made by figures of Black History in the past and present. Next week we will be celebrating Diwali at Grange Primary. We will focus on the powerful messages of hope and light and joy that Diwali teaches. Our Diwali celebrations will culminate on Friday next week(9 th November), with a Diwali bazaar from 3-5pm. Please come and join in our Grange community Diversity values by visiting the bazaar (in the KSI hall) and supporting your children to enter into the spirit of Diwali at Grange Primary. From Diwali , we will be moving into a focus week of ‘Anti-bullying’ and from there we will be moving into prepar- ing for our Christmas celebrations at Grange. It is exciting to see how we are weaving the English, Maths, Science and other lessons into these themes of learning. An aspect of our Diwali celebrations have been Year 4’s focus on light through completing circuits to power an electric lightbulb. As always I welcome feedback; please do address correspondence (via the office) for my attention. Our Grange website homepage now has a video interview which the Grange journalism club conducted with me and I hope that you enjoy their probing questions! Newsletter No. 8

Dear Grange Community

This week we have brought our Black History month Grange project to a culmination and I look forward to our visiting steel pan band playing to us at home time.

I enjoyed watching videos about the life-stories of these heroes and this learning has made me ambitious about my life…” She articu-lated her dreams about her future which involve working with and helping people with autism..

Our Diwali celebrations will culminate on Friday next week(9th November), with a Diwali bazaar from 3-5pm. Please come and join in our Grange community Diversity values by visiting the bazaar (in the KSI hall) and supporting your children to enter into the spirit of Diwali at Grange Primary.

From Diwali , we will be moving into a focus week of ‘Anti-bullying’ and from there we will be moving into prepar-ing for our Christmas celebrations at Grange.

It is exciting to see how we are weaving the English, Maths, Science and other lessons into these themes of learning. An aspect of our Diwali celebrations have been Year 4’s focus on light through completing circuits to power an electric lightbulb.

Grange at the Debate Mate London Launch

Following our brilliant success last year, we will be taking part in Debatemate again this year. This week, children attended the Debatemate launch event for 2018/19 in Westminster. Grange was chosen, out of all the schools participating, to take part in a show debate in front of 1000 people including the CEO of Debatemate! Ahmed & Hila represented us incredibly well, providing excellent, well-thought out points calmly and confidently. They were inter-viewed afterwards about their experience, so look out for them on TV! The rest of the children had the opportunity to share their views during the floor debate, where members of the audience can comment on points made in the main debate. There was a competi-tion for the best floor debate comment and this was won by Amira! She won a £20 Nando's voucher for her fierce comment about feminism, you can see this on our twitter page (@GrangeHarrow). We will take part in debating competitions against other schools in the months to come so look out for more updates soon!

Parent Noticeboard

Lost Property

We ask that everything your child brings to school is clearly marked with their name. Clearly marked items can be returned promptly to your child if it is mislaid. This also prevents confusion over the ownership of the property. Any items of clothes which are mislaid can be collected by the child from outside the Welfare Room. Staff will attempt to find missing clothing but are limited in what they can do if property has not been named. From next week , Lost Property bin will be out in the playground every Tuesday and Friday. Unclaimed property will be kept for 2 weeks, it will then be either washed and sold as Nearly New Uniform or taken to the local charity shop for recycling.

Concern Over Parking

Thank you to all our parents who walk to school and who are considerate if and when they drive. Unfortunately, we have received complaints from our neighbours in the wider community about a small number of parents who park inconsiderately and sometimes illegally when dropping or picking up their children. As our parents are important to the school com-munity and play a huge part in making our school the amazing learning environment that it is we ask you to please be mindful, careful and consider-ate when you park your cars in Furness Road, Tintern Way and Abercorn Crescent.

sQuid Balance Refund

We would like to inform you that we are await-ing a refund from sQuid in respect to any balances you may have on your child’s sQuid account. As soon as we receive this, you will be informed on how the monies will be refunded to you. In the meantime we thank you for your patience.

School Meals Our school meals are being provided by Radish who provide nutritionally balanced meals for the

making payments online. Payment for hot school meals should always be made in advance and can be
