NITS/HEADLICE/TICKS Dear Parents,

We have been no fied of several cases of head lice this week.

PLEASE CHECK ALL CHILDREN’S HAIR TONIGHT FOR NITS.

If nits are present they must be treated with the appropriate solution (available from the chemist) and can return to school as soon as they are clear.

Everyone in the house should be treated.

ALSO CHECK YOUR CHILDREN FOR TICKS.

If a tick is found, spray it with an aerosol insect repellent that contains Pyrethrin. The tick should be sprayed again one minute later and left. After 24 hours the tick should fall off naturally or be gently removed with fine-tipped

Forceps. The use of methylated spirits on a tick will cause the tick to inject saliva into the skin, making the situation worse.

PRIMARY SPORT - SWIMMING

Students in Years K-6 will be swimming every Friday during sport as from this Friday, 17th February. All students, except season ticket holders, are to bring in $2.50 each week for entry to the pool. Students must please bring their swimmers to school in a plastic or water-proof bag. ALL clothing and towels must also be labelled. If your child is not going to swim on the day, they must have a note to excuse them from participating in swimming. A permission note is also required for students in Years 3-6 who wish to stay at the pool after sport. Please note that the front office will NOT be ringing home for any forgotten swimming items.

ASHFORD CENTRAL SCHOOLS POSITIVE REWARDS SYSTEM

EXCITING NEW REWARD.

Students who have not received a misconduct or haven’t a ended a deten on within a two

week period, will receive a

ZOOPER DOOPER ICYPOLE each Friday fortnight during lunch. If you do not wish for your child to receive a Zooper Dooper please advise the school in wri ng. At Ashford Central School, we provide a posi ve learning environment for a diverse range of learning styles and individual needs. We believe educa on is a life‐long process and students need to be empowered to take ownership of their own learning and behaviour. Students, teachers, parents, caregivers and community members are all ac ve par cipants in our school. As a PBL school, Ashford Central School commits to four core values: SAFETY TEAMWORK ACHIEVEMENT RESPECT Each week, students will be engaged with short social skill lessons that are developed based on our classroom expecta‐

ons. The focus topics for these lessons will be detailed in our weekly school newsle er, on the local radio and on ACS Facebook page. STAR Reward System As part of the PBL process, we implement a school wide behaviour reward system. As a school it is our job to explicitly teach and reinforce posi ve behaviours across the school. The implementa on of our STAR reward system is a way for ACS to do this with consistency and a shared language. The Posi ve Conduct System consists of a number of awards. Students begin on Level 0 at the beginning of Term 4 annually and moved through posi ve levels as they receive class awards. Levels Silver to Pla num Bar are very pres gious awards made to those students who deserve special recogni on. Class awards are presented to the students during weekly assemblies. An accumula on of class awards will result in Principal Awards. Gradua on of Principal Awards Principal Awards are presented to the students during Term Principal Assemblies. How does our STAR Reward System work? STAR ckets are distributed to students for displaying posi ve behaviour. Staff will use these across the school (classroom, playground etc.) and hand them out when they see a posi ve behaviour from any student. Students are responsible for placing the completed star cket into their allocated star cket box, which is located in the Ashford Central School Library. Yellow box = Primary Silver box = Secondary Weekly winners will receive a voucher to spend at the canteen. All weekly ckets are then transferred into the annual PBL Star Ticket Box giving the students the opportunity to win a major prize—$50 voucher at Presenta on Night. STAR ckets A STAR cket recipient will only be eligible for the reward voucher if: they are actually present on the day they are in full school uniform they are not on a monitoring sheet for nega ve behaviour they must obtain 85% a endance at school PBL rewards day each term: Term rewards days celebrate those students who did not receive a misconduct report. Those students who have not received a misconduct all term are eligible for a STAR cket in the end of year draw.
