Year 8 Rounders vs Matravers

On Tuesday 6th May, the Year 8 rounders team played away at Matravers in Westbury. The team was: Seelearn Rana, Jess Ryall, Ella Daley, Lucy Fuller, Hannah Davies, Georgia Rowland, Koel Jelfs and Ruby Hockley.

It was a competitive match with 30 good balls. The team fielded extremely well and restricted their opponents to a very low total. Ella Daley and Jess Ryall were the star players due to their impressive ground fielding and communication. In the end the score was 11 ½-3 rounders to Kingdown. The team look in fine form for their upcoming match versus Melksham Oak.

Books printed on paper are easier to read

If reading digital text on websites, apps and electronic readers is starting to feel a bit dizzying, then try reading a book or newspaper. Academic research is suggesting that the brain is better able to absorb complex material when read in print. The “Wired” magazine, a publication associated with the digital revolution, made a case this week for the endurance of the printed word by arguing that paper and screens are complementary because they each stimulate a different mode of thinking.

Scandinavian academics suggest that scrolling through text on screen is distracting and Israeli studies show that students reading on paper found it easier to absorb information. An American study of more than 34,000 children found that those who read paper books tend to be stronger readers. Young people who read in both digital and print tend to have the highest literacy score.
