Plans were leaked before rebellion and 25 members were executed including Gabriel

Occurred in Southhampton, VA

Rebel slaves killed 55-65 white owners (Highest number ever killed by uprising in the South)

Turner was able to escape after the rebellion and live for about 2 months before being captured

Aftermath was wide sped fear of white southerners. Militias were created and massacre of slaves had begin at least 100 were killed by mobs and militias and 50 were killed due to accused involvement in rebellion

Northwest Ordinance Northwest Ordinance

passed by congress to set up first organized territory of the United States, south of the Great Lakes and North and West of the Missouri River

Included that there would be no slavery in the newly created territory which would later set up the boundaries between free and slave territory between the Appalachian Mts. and the Missouri River
