As you are aware Ryders Hayes has been awarded the Silver Rights Respecting School Award by Unicef UK. Unicef is the world’s lead-ing organisation working for children and their rights. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commit-ment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school. Silver is given to schools that make excellent progress towards embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos and curriculum. There are 1341 schools across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales that have achieved Silver. Ryders Hayes is one of only two schools who have achieved this level in Walsall. Nationally 379 schools have been awarded Gold, the next step up and highest accolade granted by Unicef. The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies and practice. A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
Mrs Miner, said, ‘This is an important day in the life of the school, allowing us to pause and reflect upon the positive impact that working towards the Award has had on pupils and the school as a whole. It fits so well with our strong values, centring around the importance of putting children’s rights at the heart of a school, and helping our children to recognise their rights as young citizens of the world. Thank you to pupils, parents, staff, and governors for their hard work and contribution to our Silver Award”
The Plaque and banner where presented to school by Wendy Morton MP. Wendy added, “Congratulations to all the Gov-ernors, Staff, but above all the pupils of Ryders Hayes School for receiving this prestigious Unicef UK Award. Unicef works with schools to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive and it was a pleasure to present the school with their Silver Award plaque and banner. Everyone at Ryders Hayes School can be very proud of their achievement”

We have been made aware by the Local Authority Safeguarding Team that game DOKI DOKI LITERATURE CLUB is not suitable for
children, which is clearly stated on its homepage. It is a psychological horror game that involves player’s emotions and self-harming
endings.
As this is a free game to play online it is easily accessible and as the game uses illustrations children may mistakenly play it. Please
ensure that your child is not playing this game - the content is highly unsuitable.

Mrs Schwartz conducted the Joint Pelsall Schools’ Choir to launch St Michael’s Music weekend, having taken over from
Mrs Davenport who started the initiative some years ago. Congratulations to Mrs Schwartz on an excellent job and to
Ryders Hayes Choir who sang beautifully, including their favourite song from ‘The Greatest Showman’.
Last week we began our new Archery and Fencing clubs for KS2. The children really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in the exciting clubs which involved sports they may not have had the opportunity to play previously. During the Archery session the children used the bow and arrow to play 'bake the cake' in teams. They had to aim for different colours on the target and hit them in a certain order. In Fencing the children were able to handle the equipment as well as playing a game which involved dodging. They have been practising with the equipment this week. The clubs are now full, but if you would like your child to be a part of either club in September then please let The Office know and they will be put on a waiting list.
On Monday this week a group of 11 year 3/4 children took part in a Cricket competition at Bronze Cricket Club. The children all played fantastically - for some it was the first out of school competition they had taken part in. They represented the school with real sportsmanship and should be extremely proud to have came third, just missing out on the finals. After only losing 2 games by around 9 runs-it was an extremely close competition! Well done to all involved!
