Tue., Dec. 20;  NY Rangers 4 at New Jersey 1     The Devils faced the Rangers for the first of six times this season to open a mini two-game homestand. The decision snapped theclub’s season-high four-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the team is 6-2-0 in its last eight contests. New Jersey out shot NewYork 31-21 overall, including 12-4 in the first period, 8-7 in the second and 11-10 in the third.     Travis Zajac’s first goal of the season in his third appearance gave the Devils a 1-0 lead. Dainius Zubrus and Petr Sykora pickedup the assists, to extend each of their point-scoring streaks to three games. Martin Brodeur (17 saves + ENG) was in goal for NewJersey. Injuries     C Patrik Elias (ill, 1 gm missed) and D Henrik Tallinder (back spasms, 3 gms) are both out on a day-to-day basis.  D Andy Greene(non-displaced toe fracture, Dec. 6 at Tor., 7 gms) is out four weeks.  He was placed on the club’s I.R. List Dec. 9, retroactive to Dec.6.  C Jacob Josefson (broken right clavicle, Oct. 21 vs. SJ, 28 gms) is out three-four months.  He was placed on the I.R. List Oct. 24,retroactive to Oct. 21.  Total regular-season man-game lost to injury/illness:  103. Player moves     On Dec. 16, the Devils activated D Anton Volchenkov from the club’s I.R. List, while also activating C Travis Zajac, an injured,non-roster player.  Volchenkov had been placed on the I.R. List Dec. 12, retroactive to Dec. 8.  On Dec. 13, RW Nick Palmieri wasassigned to Albany (AHL).  He was previously recalled Dec. 4.  On Dec. 12, D Kurtis Foster and G Timo Pielmeier were acquiredfrom Anaheim in exchange for D Mark Fraser, C Rod Pelley and the club's seventh-round choice in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.  AlsoDec. 12, RW Cam Janssen was activated off I.R.  He had been placed on I.R. Dec. 9, along with D Andy Greene.  Also Dec. 9, DMatt Taormina and Alexander Urbom were recalled from Albany.  Urbom had been previously assigned Nov. 29 after being recalledthe previous day. Coming into tonight     The Devils enter tonight’s game following a 4-1 loss Tuesday evening vs. NY Rangers. Tuesday’s decision snapped the club’sseason-high four-game winning streak. The team previously recorded points in four straight October 10-21 (3-0-1=7pts). Despite theloss, New Jersey is 6-2-0 in its last eight outings overall.     The Devils are now 4-0-0 in their last four road games, while alternating wins/losses over their past eight games on home ice (4-4-0).  Now 18-14-1=37pts through 33 matches overall, New Jersey did not record its 18th win last season until game no. 51 (19th win ingame 53).     The Devils’ penalty-killing unit allowed one power play goal in six attempts Dec. 8 vs. Ottawa, snapping a stretch of 35 successfulattempts.  The Dec. 8 game also snapped a stretch in which the club had not allowed a power play score on home ice this season (0-39).  On Dec. 16 vs. Dallas, the team scored its league-leading seventh shorthanded goal of the season, its most since seven in 2009-10 and after scoring five all of last year.  Conversely, Tuesday vs. NY Rangers, New Jersey gave up its NHL-leading tenth shorthandedgoal of 2011-12.     The Devils completed the 2010-11 season with a 38-39-5=81pt mark.  The club failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for thefirst time since 1995-96, snapping the longest stretch in the Eastern Conference and the second-longest streak in the league (Det., 20). On March 12, New Jersey established a modern-day NHL record by reaching the NHL-.500 mark after being 19 games below .500 twomonths earlier.     For the Devils, tonight’s contest is its last pior to the Christmas break. The club will return to action Mon. evening at Carolina (7:00PM, MSG Plus, SportsRadio 66 WFAN). New Jersey will return to Prudential Center/open a two-game homestand Wed. night vs.Buffalo (7:00 PM, MSG Plus, WFAN). Season’s series     Tonight’s game between the Devils and Capitals marks the third of four meetings between the two teams this season, and thesecond/final game to be played here at Prudential Center.     New Jersey is 1-1-0 in the season’s series following a 3-2 shootout win Nov. 12. They have been outscored by Washington 5-4,despite holding a 52-37 edge in shots. Patrik Elias and Dainius Zubrus lead the Devils with two assists each, while David Clarksonrecorded the game-determining goal. Jason Chimera (2g), Marcus Johansson (1g-1a) and Troy Brouwer (1g-1a) have two points eachto lead the Caps. Martin Brodeur (0-1-0, .850 save % & 3.10 GAA) & Johan Hedberg (1-0-0, .882 save % & 1.85 GAA) have sharedthe goaltending for New Jersey, while Tomas Vokoun (1-0-0, .970 save % &1.00 GAA) & Michal Neuvirth (0-0-1, .895 save % & 1.85GAA) have been in goal or Washington.     The Capitals lead the all-time series 77-67-9, but the Devils are 40-32-4 in the previous 76 games played here.     The fourth/final game of the series will be played Mar. 2 at Washington’s Verizon Center. Milestones     On Dec. 17, C Patrik Elias scored two goals to tie/surpass John MacLean (347) for the most goals in franchise history.     On Nov. 26, LW Ilya Kovalchuk posted 2a to reach the 100-point mark with the Devils.     On Nov. 25, RW Petr Sykora scored his 150th career goal with the club.

Price). Parise extended a stretch in which each of the league’s last nine potential game-tying attempts withless than one minute remaining in regulation have been unsuccessful over the last 18 season. The last one before Parise's was byKings' D Jack Johnson against Stars' G Kari Lehtonen on Jan. 17, 2011.  Rookie point-streak     Devils’ C Adam Henrique was held scoreless Dec. 10 vs. Montreal, snapping his season-high seven-game point-scoring streak (2g-7a-9pts).  The team’s rookie record of eight was accomplished three times previously: Travis Zajac (Mar. 15-30, ’07), Scott Gomez(Nov. 12-Dec. 1, ’99) and Kevin Todd (Dec. 8-21, ’92).   Penalty killing     The Devils did not allow a power play goal through their first ten-plus home games this season (0-39).  The club’s recent stretch often home games is tied for the longest in franchise history, accomplished twice: Dec. 28-Feb. 4, 2003 (0-28) and Oct. 30-Dec. 6, 1997(0-22) Larsson’s point-scoring streak     With his second goal of the season Nov. 26 vs. NY Islanders, Adam Larsson tied a team rookie defenseman record by recording apoint (1g-4a-5pts) in his fifth straight game (S. Niedermayer, Oct. 31-Nov. 13, 1992 & B. Driver, Jan. 14-23, 1985). Brodeur saves and assists     G Martin Brodeur recorded his 38th career assist Nov. 21 at Florida, his second point of the season.  On Nov. 16, he notched apower play assist.  He now has eight career power play assists;  he also has two shorthanded assists and 28 at even strength.  One ofhis even-strength assists came in overtime, his lone point in the extra session.  Brodeur has posted assists in back-to-back gamesonce, Feb. 26-28, 1998.
