CTE programs are generally a three-year sequence of high school elective classes that provide students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in 21st century careers. CTE prepares students to be college and career ready. What is CTE College Credit? CTE College Credit gives students the opportunity to earn free college credit in articulated high school CTE programs. Our goal is to increase academic opportunities for high school students to obtain college credit in strategic pathways that lead toward meaningful CSN degrees/certificates or transfer education. How will CTE College Credit beneÿt a high school student? CTE College Credit is designed to give high school students a head start on their college pathway and save them money! The college credit earned can be used towards completing program requirements within a CSN certificate or associates degree, or may be used as elective or transfer credit. The college credit earned is FREE. What are the eligibility requirements for earning college credit? To qualify for CTE College Credit, high school students must: 1. Enroll in a CTE high school program that is approved for CSN college credit;* 2. Complete the CTE high school program with a 3.0 grade point average; (Example of CTE Program: Culinary Arts I, Culinary Arts II and Culinary Arts III); 3. Pass the state end-of-program assessment; and** 4. Pass the state workplace readiness skills assessment.** *For an updated list of CTE programs approved for college credit at CSN visit csn.edu/CTE or visit http://cteae.nv.gov for a list of qualifying programs at other Nevada institutions. **Please note that assessments are high school tests and are not administered by the college. How and when to apply? The CTE College Credit application process is available through csn.edu/CTE. High school students can apply in their junior or senior year, if they are enrolled or have completed the third level course (e.g. Culinary Arts III). Students do not need to wait for their assessment results to apply. Starting with the class of 2016, eligible students can apply for college credit within three (3) years of their high school graduation. What happens after a student applies for CTE College Credit? A student who has met the CTE College Credit eligibility requirements will have the corresponding CSN college credit posted to their permanent CSN record, based on the date they applied. Students who apply by the spring deadline will have their college credit posted by the end of August and students who apply by the fall deadline will have their college credit posted by the end of December. For exact application period dates and deadlines, please see the CTE College Credit Application page. Students should meet with a college academic advisor to determine how best to apply the college credits to their educational goals. If the college credit has not been posted to the student’s CSN records at the time of meeting with a college academic advisor, the student should notify them of the anticipated CSN college credit. If the student plans to attend CSN, and needs their college credit confirmed in order to register for the subsequent college class please contact the CTE College Credit Office. If they plan to attend a college other than CSN, they will need to request official transcripts be sent to their college of choice.     ¿Qué es CTE?

    Los programas de Educación Técnica y de Carrera (o CTE por sus siglas en inglés) son por lo general una secuencia de tres años de cursos optativos de preparatoria que dan a los alumnos las habilidades, conocimientos y entrenamiento necesarios para tener éxito en las carreras del siglo XXI. CTE prepara a los alumnos para estar listos para la universidad y carrera.

    ¿Qué es CTE College Credit?

    CTE College Credit da al alumno la oportunidad de acumular créditos universitarios en programas de preparatoria CTE. Nuestra meta es aumentar las oportunidades académicas de los alumnos de preparatoria para obtener créditos de educación superior en caminos estratégicos que los lleven a títulos/certificados significativos para College of Southern Nevada (CSN) o crédito transferido.

    ¿Cómo beneÿcia el alumno de preparatoria con CTE College Credit?

    El Crédito Universitario CTE está diseñado para ayudar a los alumnos de preparatoria a adelantar su camino universitario y ahorrarles dinero.

    El crédito universitario que se ha obtenido puede usarse para completar requisitos de programas de un certificado o diplomado; o puede ser usado como optativo o crédito transferido.

    El crédito universitario obtenido es GRATUITO.

    ¿Cuáles son los requisitos para obtener créditos universitarios?

    Para ser elegibles para CTE College Credit los alumnos de preparatoria deben: 1. Estar inscritos en un programa de preparatoria CTE aprobado para créditos universitarios CSN;* 2. Completar el programa de preparatoria CTE con un promedio de 3.0;

    (Ejemplo de Programa CTE: Artes Culinarias I, Artes Culinarias II y Artes Culinarias III); 3. Aprobar el examen estatal de fin de programa; y** 4. Aprobar el examen estatal de habilidades de preparación para el lugar de trabajo.**

    *Visita csn.edu/CTE para encontrar una lista vigente de programas CTE con aprobación para créditos universitarios en CSN o visita http://cteae.nv.gov para encontrar una lista de programas aceptados en otras instituciones de Nevada. **Los exámenes son de preparatoria y no son administrados por la universidad.

    ¿Cómo y cuándo hacer la solicitud?

    El proceso de solicitud de CTE College Credit está disponible a través de csn.edu/CTE. Alumnos de preparatoria pueden hacer su solicitud durante su año 11 o 12, si están inscritos o completaron su curso de tercer nivel (por ejemplo, Artes Culinarias III). Los alumnos no necesitan esperar el resultado del examen para hacer su solicitud. A partir de la generación de 2016, los alumnos elegibles pueden solicitar crédito universitario dentro de los tres (3) años siguientes a su graduación de preparatoria.

    ¿Qué sucede después de que un alumno solicita CTE College Credit?

    A un alumno que cumple los requisitos de eligibilidad para CTE College Credit se le agregará el crédito universitario CSN correspondiente en su archivo permanente, basado en la fecha de solicitud. Los alumnos que hagan su solicitud antes de la fecha límite de primavera, verá reflejados los créditos para el fin de agosto, y los alumnos que lo soliciten antes de la fecha límite de otoño, lo verán para el fin de diciembre. Las fechas de los periodos de solicitud y fechas límites pueden consultarse en el sitio de solicitud de CTE College Credit.

    Los alumnos deben consultar con un consejero académico para determinar la mejor manera de aplicar los créditos universitarios a sus métas educativas. Si el crédito universitario no ha sido agregado al archivo CSN del amumno a tiempo para su junta con un consejero académico, el alumno deberá notificarle de los créditos universitarios que espera. Si el alumno planea asistir a CSN y necesita confirmación de su crédito universitario para la inscripción a la siguiente clase universitaria, favor de comunicarse con la Oficina de CTE College Credit. Si planean asistir a una universidad diferente, necesitan solicitar que las transcripciones oficiales sean enviadas a la universidad de su elección. Una solicitud de transcripción oficial solo deberá hacerse una vez que el crédito universitario CTE ha sido agregado al archivo CSN del alumno.
