When are services available?Gaylord Physical Therapy is available Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in North Haven.

How many times will I see my therapist?During your first appointment you will receive an initial evaluation by one of our highly skilled and experienced therapists. Your therapist will create an individualized treatment plan and will discuss how many sessions you may need. Throughout your treatment the plan will be adjusted depending on your progress.

Will my medical insurance cover services?Physical therapy is covered by most commercial insurances, as well as Medicare and Medicaid. Gaylord staff will work with you to verify benefit coverage or to discuss treatment costs that may not be covered by insurance.

What else does Gaylord Specialty Healthcare offer?Gaylord Hospital, located in Wallingford, CT, is a long-term acute care hospital specializing in the treatment of medically complex and complex rehabilitation patients who require inpatient care following an acute care hospital stay.

Gaylord Outpatient Services on the Wallingford campus provides treatment for patients affected by neurological diagnoses, including physiatry (physical medicine and rehabilitation), physical and occupational therapies, speech language pathology, psychology, and a hearing center.

Gaylord Sleep Medicine offers consultations with sleep experts, overnight sleep studies and durable medical equipment required by those with sleep disorders. Visit www.gaylord.org for sleep medicine locations.

Our physical therapists (PTs) focus on improving a person’s movement, mobility, and strength to restore, maintain, and promote optimal physical function. This is accomplished through various means, including exercise on land or in our therapy pools, manual techniques, therapeutic modalities, bracing, adaptive equipment and education.

Physical therapy helps to improve a person’s overall function focusing on coordination, balance, strength and range of motion. Programs include sports medicine, aquatic therapy and fitness programming for people with orthopedic injuries.

Therapy sessions may include:

Frequently treated diagnoses include:

• ACL reconstruction and/or meniscal repairs• Rotator cuff repairs• Ligamentous sprains/strains• Ankle sprains and Achilles repairs• Joint replacement• Sports injuries• Back and neck injuries• Tendinitis/bursitis• SI/pelvic dysfunction

Due to the nature of orthopedic and sports related injuries, therapy is frequently required the same or next day. Gaylord encourages you, or your healthcare provider, to contact us immediately following your completed work up to schedule your therapy.

Aquatic TherapyWater offers a safe, cushioning environment for people with various injuries and disabilities, since the physical properties of water diminish the effects of gravity. Our program includes instruction for individualized therapy for each participant.

Gaylord’s physical therapists will evaluate all patients on land, but many will receive a recommendation for aquatic therapy. Our North Haven location offers two pools for therapy sessions under the supervision of a licensed therapist.

Partnership Benefits Gaylord’s unique partnership with Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness enhances the quality of care to our patients through direct access to state-of-the-art fitness equipment. This atmosphere allows for a smooth transition from a PT-based program to a home or fitness center exercise program. Gaylord therapists frequently witness former patients’ recovery progressing to the next level when they transition to an exercise program with Healthtrax.
