  • In the security catch the flint should not touch the closedbattery steel

The angle of impact Y of the flint should be larger than 120°to prevent a shattering of the flint

    Y

The lenght of the flint must be such, that the upper cock Llppnever hits the steel of the battery

It is preferable that, even with a brocken flint, the cock screwwill not be damaged by an impact on the steel

    3

    Important Premises for Flint Lock

  • It is preferable, that a large enough distance F exists betweenthe flint and the burning black powder to prevent a damageof the flint by the heat

    F

After the firing the battery should remain in its fully opencondition

The surface S of the battery steel must be at least surfacehardened. No spark are being generated on a soft steel
