Dear Mr. Paul:
We recently received an application from you for service under our Board. It is our policy to be as frank and open-minded as possible with all our applicants. We have made an exhaustive survey of your case. To be plain, we are surprised that you have been able to pass as a bona-fide missionary.
We are told that YOll are afflicted with a severe eye trouble. This is certain to be an insuperable handicap to an effective ministry. Our board requires 20-20 vision.
At Antioch, we learn you opposed Dr. Simon Peter, an esteem e d de no min-atiorra-l secretary and actually rebuked him publicly. You stirred up so much trouble at Antioch that a special Board meeting had to be convened in Jerusalem. We cannot condone such actions.
Do you think it seemly for a missionary to do part-time secular work? We hear that you are making tents on the side. In a letter to the church at Philippi you admitted that they were the only church supporting you. We wonder why!
Is it true that you have a jail record? Certa in brethern report that you did two years time in Caesarea and were imprisoned in Rome.
You made so much trouble for · the businessmen at Ephesus that they refer to you as " the man who turned the world upside down." Sensationalism has no place in missions. We also deplore the lurid " over-the-wall-in-a-basket" episode at Damascus.
We· are appalled at your obvious lack of conciliatory behavior . Diplomatic men are not stoned and dragged out of the city gate or assaulted by furious mobs. Have you ever suspected that gentler words might gain you more friends? I enclose a copy of Dalius Carnagus' book, " How to Win Jews and Influence Greeks."
In one of your letters you refer to yourself as, " Paul, the aged." Our new mission policies do not envisage a surplus of superannuated recipients.
We understand that you are given to fantasies and dreams. At Troas you saw "A man of Macedonia" and at other times

French Camp Academy held its annual invitational basketball tournament on January 11-13 with a fine group entered in the contest. The schools entered were: Ackerman , Duck Hill, Durant, Nanih Waiya and of course the Panthers and Panthere ttes of French Camp Academy.
On the opening night, Thursday, Ackerman girls met the Duck Hill girls in a fine game won by Ackerman 39-31. This game was followed by the boys of the same two schools playing with the Duck Hill boys the winners, 55-44.
On Friday evening, there were four games played. It was truly a night of basketball. In the opening game, the French Camp Pantherettes played Nanih Waiya with the Pantherettes victorious by a score of 33-17. The same two schools played in the boys' contest which was won by Nanih Waiya 68-47. Next, the Durant girls, top-seeded in the tournament, took on the girls of Ackerman with Durant winning 40-24 in a well played game. Then the Durant boys played the Duck Hill boys and Durant won by a score of 51-31 in a fine contest.
In the championship games on Saturday night, there was much anticipation as to the outcome of each game. With four fine teams competing for the trophies, play got under way at 7:00 p.m. with Durant meeting the French Camp Pantherettes. It was a well played game by the Pantherettes as they held a fine Durant team led by Miss Nash to win 31-29. Peggy Grant led all scorers with
14 points followed by Khristi Long with 8, Alexis Jackson with 5 and Shirley Sanders with 4.
In the boys' game, played between Nanih Waiya and Durant, Durant came out on top 58-36. Durant was led in their attack by C. Kurns and J . Johnson. W. Nunn led Nanih Waiya with 15 points .
The Pantherettes of French Camp are made up of the following girls : Peggy Grant of French Camp; Alexis Jackson of Tela, Honduras, Central America ; Khristi Long of French Camp ; Shirley Sanders of French Camp ; Vickie Sanders of French Camp; Karen Winter of Oxford, Miss .; Laurie Barton of Memphis, Tenn .; Sheila Hernandez of Lambert, Miss . ; Denise Thrailkill of French Camp; Nellie Smith of New Orleans, La.; Maria Granados of Chiriqui , Panama, Central America; Alicia Henderson of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Kathy Fisher of Meridian, Miss . The Pantherettes are coached by Sam Allen.
All participants in the tournament were well behaved ladies and gentlemen which always makes for good sportsmanship and fine competition. It is always a privilege to have fine groups of youngsters like these and many others on our campus to compete with our youngsters. Thanks, also, to the coaches for their fine jobs and coaching. We are looking forward to next year when, once again, we will meet our friends (and foes) on the basketball court in the Fren'ch Camp Academy Invitational Tournament. See you then.
January 20, 1973 the FCA Speech class journeyed to Louisville to attend the Sub-District Platform speech contest. Barrie Jones; Fairfax, Va., received an excellent rating on her Dramatic reading " Ole Mother Hubbard" or ., A Modern Sermon" . Barrie is e ligible to enter the North District Platform speech contest held at MSCW.

humorous reading " Hungah" . Both girls did a beautiful job. As a result, they came home with the trophy given by the District IV Mississippi Activities Association for the Platform Contest. Other schools participating were Louisville and Philadelphia . Congratulations girls'.
The Speech program this year is under the direction of Miss Dorene Walker.
Weekend Retreat The young people of the First
Presbyterian Church in Jackson hosted nine FCA students at their winter retreat. The retreat was held January 19-21 at Camp Garoway near Jackson. Pete Hammond, the director of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in the Southeast, was the main speaker.

Th e nine French Camp students attending the retreat were members of the French Camp Singers. They had gotten to know the Jackson young people last fall when singing in Jackson . We are · grateful for this opportunity the young people were given. We hope that other FC students will have similar opportunities in the future. Mr. Jim Hill, Music director at French Camp, accompanied them.
The retreat was both a blessing and very interesting. The nature of man as he was meant to be in Genesis 1 and 2 was compared with man today. Such a com-

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us (Ephesians 3:20). This month we would like to acquaint you, with one of our seven dorms-MORIAH.
Moriah was first built in 1951-52 with funds provided by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Yandell of Vance. Last year, with funds from the Estate of Albert Gardner of Yazoo the home was remodeled . Carl McMurry of Jackson contributed to the furnishings. Many friends
of the Academy have also contributed curtains, games, etc. It is now a beautiful home for boys located at the far corner of the campus. Let's meet the people at Moriah.
'The houseparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jim Long, Mr. Long is originally from New Albany and Mrs. Long comes from Pontotoc. They have been at FCA for two years and at Moriah since August.
'There are 14 boys in Moriah. Carl Williams is a 7th grader from Yazoo City. Carl helps manage the football and basketball teams. He is an honor roll student. John Cirota, an eighth grader, is from Pensacola, Florida . He enjoys building models and racing sport · cars. John has a twi-n brother in Taylor Home. Leroy " Pete" Paige is from Jackson. Pete, who is 14, enjoys all kinds of sports and "eating." Arlie McGee is 14 years old and comes from Kosciusko. He likes to hunt and fish . Arlie is also an honor roll student. David
Newell, a seventh grader, is from Tupelo. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and "holidays." Jerry Sullivan is from Jackson. He is 15 and likes to play ping pong and football. Eugene Orrell, from Grenada, is in the seventh grade. Eugene enjoys sports and played with the high school football team. Mark McMinn, age 13, is from Lambert. Mark likes hunting, basketball and the color purple. Duel Prather, from Blue Springs, is also 13. He enjoys sports and works as manager for the High School teams. Donald Oakes, age 14, is from Cruger. Donald plays tennis and someday hopes to become a lawyer. Terry White is from Greenville. He is 16, likes to play basketball and " collect things." Ricky Carter, from Houston, Texas, is 13. He likes swimming and "trying to surf." Mike McKinley is from Pensacola, Florida. He is 14 and claims a batting average of .550. Terry Fisher, age 15, is from Laurel. He enjoys all sports, especially skiing.
We in Moriah have been busy this year. Our dorm won first prize in " Skit Night" by presenting a "womanless wedding." Pete Paige and Mike McKinley won first and second place in the Junior High division of the six mile run on Harvest Festival Day. We recently enjoyed a trip to Starkville to see the famous " Globetrotters." Christmas, we were blessed with a new ping pong table. In our first " Ping-Pong Tournament," Terry Fisher was crowned championbut there were 13 runners-up!!
The Lord has really blessed us in Moriah Home. He has answered prayer and supplied our needs. We continually thank and praise Him for His goodness to us.

You have caused much trouble everywhere you have gone. You opposed the honorable women at Berea and the leaders of your own nationality at Jerusalem. If a man cannot get along with his own people, how can he serve foreigners?
We learn that you are a snakehandler. At Malta you picked up a poisonous serpent which is said to have bitten you but you did not suffer harm. Tsk! Tsk!
You admit that while you were serving time at Rome that "all forsake you." Good men are not left friendless. Three fine brothers by the name of Diotrophes, Demas, and Alexander, the coppersmith , have notarized affidavits to the effect that it is impossible for them to cooperate with either you or your program.
We know that you had a bitter quarrel with a fellow missionary named "Barnabas ." Harsh words do not further God's work.
You have written many letters to churches where you have formerly been pastor. In one of these letters you accused a church member of living with his father 's wife. You caused the whole church to feel badly and the poor fellow was expelled.
You spent too much time talking about " the second coming of Christ." Your letters to the people of Thessalonica were almost entirely devoted to this theme. Put first things first from now on.
Your ministry has been far too flighty to be successful, first Asia Minor, then Macedonia, then Greece, then Italy, and now you lre talking about a wild goose chase into Spain. Concentration is most important than dissipation of one's powers. You cannot win the whole world by yourself. You are just one man.
In a recent sermon you said, "God forbid that I should glory in anything save the cross of Christ. " It seems to us that you also ought to glory in our heritage, our denominational program, the unified budget and the World Federation of Churches.
Your sermons are much too long for the time. At one place you talked until after midnight and a young man was so sleepy that he fell out of the window and broke his neck. Nobody is saved after the first twenty minutes. . 'Stand up , speak up , and then shut up ," is our advice.
Dr . Luke reports that you are a thin little man , bald, frequently sick, and always so agitated over your churches that you sleep very poorly. He reports that you pace around the house praying half of the night. A healthy mind in a robust body is our ideal for all applicants. A good night's sleep will give you zest and zip so that you will wake up full of zing.
We find it best to send only married men into foreign service. We deplore your policy of persistent celibacy . Simon Magus has set up a matrimonial bureau in Samaria where the names of some very fine widows are available.
You wrote recently to Timothy that "you had fought a good fight. " Fighting is hardly a recommendation for a missionary. No fight is a good fight. Jesus came not to bring a sword but peace. You boast that " I fought with wild beasts at Ephesus." What on earth do you mean?
It hurts me to tell you this, Brother Paul , but in all of my twenty-five years' experience I have never met a man so opposite to the requirements of our Foreign Mission Board. If we accept you we would break every rule of modern missionary practice.
