French, British, and German Types of Battle Tanks
ACTUAL battlescene (above). ofFrench tank
going into action, while behind it a lineof French infantry ismoving up to its sup-port. It would be toomuch to say that tankswon the war, but itcan safely be said thatthe final allied victorywould have been great-ly deferred had it notbeen for the incalcu-able service renderedby the tanks. Notonly have they brokendown defenses t h a twould otherwise havebeen almost impreg-nable, but they havesaved thousands oflives by screeningfrom hostile fire thelines of infantry that
followed them.(C French Pictorial Service.)

shellfire.(i British Offic/al Photo.

Below is a huge Ger-man tank captured bythe French and re-paired by them. Whileof enormous size, thetanks which the Ger-mans built after theBritish had proved thevalue of that weaponwere too ponderousand unwieldy to be ofgreat service to their
forces.(0 French Pictorial Service.)
