Housing association Soha is getting Thame residents “springing online”.

On 23 April, Soha will be taking part in the national Spring Online campaign, running free sessions to assist even the most timid beginners have a go at using computers or accessing the internet. Those who are more confident can get tips on improving their skills. People who already own portable devices, like laptops, tablets or smartphones, are welcome to bring them along for some expert advice.

Adela Miencilova, who will be running the sessions, says, “Computers can be fun and are great for hobbies and keeping in touch with emails and Facebook.” The free computer sessions take place at Windmill Place, Corbetts Way, Thame and can be booked through Soha Housing’s Liz Roberts on 01235 515 900. Anyone can join in, but priority will be given to Soha residents for the limited places.

Wheatley Birds of PreyHAWKS / OWLS / FALCONSWheatley Birds of Prey is a small family run centre. Clive Jones and his wife Jayne have been flying various Birds of Prey for 30+ years. They have a selection of Owls, Hawks and Falcons, native and from overseas. They breed some of of their own birds and some are rescued.

They have ‘Sky’, a Peregrine Falcon who will be 21 in May this year; they have had her for 181/2 years, still fly’s everyday (weather permitting). ‘Rosie’ the female Harris Hawk is also 20 years old, she’s been with them since she was 18 weeks old. ‘Thunder’ is a Male Raven, at 2 years old he can mimic Clive’s voice, he tells people to bugger off, whistles and shouts ‘come on then’. Wheatley Birds of Prey pride themselves on personal service and don’t do group shows unless requested.

All experiences are hands on and on a one to one basis, the farm backs directly onto farm land, so all experiences are in natural surrounding and not in a false environment. Wheatley Birds of Prey cater for all age groups, from a 1 hour handling to a full day Falconry experience. The most popular experience is a 2 hour Hawk walk were you get to fly a Harris Hawk across the country side and handle other Birds.

School visits, kids Birthday parties, talks at care homes, WI, Scouts, and Brownies are catered for, also photography groups. It’s free to look around; we have a total of 44 Owls, Hawks and Falcons.

The Princes Centre

As you know, we are now the proud owners of the buildings, having purchased them for the town from Bucks County Council. Our first major refurbishing project is to provide insulation and replace the large single-glazed windows in the Peter Robinson room. This will make the room much warmer for the clients and reduce our energy bills. At the same time we plan to provide a wheelchair lift to enable wheelchair users to access both levels of the buildings without having to transfer outside in all weathers. An architect has been appointed to make drawings and provide costings to install the wheelchair lift within the buildings if possible, so obviating the need for an external connecting area and reducing the costs.

We have already received a number of large contributions towards the cost of this project. The trustees and clients would like to publicly acknowledge, with gratitude, the magnificent donations from the Kop Hill Climb organisation, the Princes Risborough Town Council, Risborough Cares Charity, and the Hemley Hill Action Group and all the other recent gifts. They are all much appreciated.

The trustees of the Risborough Cares Charity, which has given continued support to the Day Centre for the last 15 years, will be holding their final Annual General Meeting on Thursday 26th March before initiating dissolution. All are welcome. This charity was set up when the Day Centre was first threatened with closure. Its main objective was to prevent its closure and the loss of day care services for the local community, and it has provided much needed support for many years, having channelled over £190,000 of donations from the public, some to support the Centre during the years of reduced financial input from Bucks County Council, and the rest to help maintain the service over the transition period and to help purchase the buildings.

Method1. Break up the chocolate and melt in a bowl over a pan with the golden syrup and butter2. Mix until smooth3. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the cornflakes4.
